Learn about the feminine principle of the dakini in Tibetan Buddhism. Judith Simmer-Brown is a practicing Buddhist of more than 40 years and an acharya (senior dharma teacher) in the lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. In this talk she explores the answers to these questions about the dakini: Why is she red? Why is she attractive? What is the significance of her gender?

Sky-Walker is more appropriate than sky dancer (Dakini). In Tibetan its called Kha (sky) Dro (walk or fly).
But, once you experience it, it feels like dancing through the Sky because you are ecstatic. My own term for further description of a Dakini is : Lover of Liberating Life. Judith was a teacher of mine at Naropa University 85-88. She looks younger now than 30 years ago!

Judith , my friend , the word Tantric is a Hindu derivation found within Hindu Tantric texts but never found in either Sansktrit Buddhist Tantra texts or its Tibetan translations. This word is not to be found in any Buddhist Tantrayana texts. Within Hinduism Tantric means the practice but within Buddhism Tantrayana/Vajrayana/Mantrayana/ Sahajayana/Guhyayana/Falayana is the practice. Within Hinduiam Tantric also denotes the the Practitioner of Tantra but even this use is never found in any Buddhist Tantra texts . The practitioner is never called a Tantric practitioner. The words used is Mantrin /Ngakp or , or Tantradhipati /Gyui Dakpo , Guhyadipati/Sangwai Dakpo or Guhya Mantradipati /Sang Ngak kyi Dakpo . BUT TANTRIC which would be Gyupa is never ever used. Buddhist Tantra, older than Hindu Tantra ,has it's own culture therefore it is a disregard to the Buddhist Vajrayana culture to call it Tantric Buddhism , which was only used by Hindu Tantras which evolved historically much later . Can't help wonder given the abuse of women that has gone on in tibetan buddhism/ himalaya and intellectualism, that many teachers talk about dakinis but have not actually met one.

Well True Buddhism is out of passion any desire. If it is true how our lecturer born child/children. She was cold in bed with husband, without passion ? Is something wrong in this attitude. Did she conceived children in philosophical mood ??? where is love of ... life. If you are total indifferent.. you are really dead.
I don't think that this can be ideal of life and so called "realization". Philosophy is one side , and reality is other side of life. General I don't like any doctrine and "religion" - ideology .I understand well idea of Emptiness but this ideal is out of life what is movement.... movement and empty space are mutual dependent and are not separate beings. Our philosopher doesn't understand that compassion is connected with passion and desire. Compassion is impossible without desire. You have to be experiencing desire to be Wise and Compassionate. True Buddhism is religion of Death
Anyone who wants to learn about Dakinis, move along. You're not going to find it here. This is just a disappointing lecture on Buddhism.

The quality of the vajra is translated into English as being adamantine meaning indestructible. Adamnatine as diamond share the same etymology. So no it doesn’t mean diamond as the object but rather has the qualities of indestructibility of which the diamond has often been seen as a symbol for.
DO DAKINIS REALLY EXIST? I do not believe so ... there is no realm in the cosmos like those of the gods in form and formless or brahma's world where such a being can be found ... or are they visualized energies out of the yogi's body which can later be dissolved at will ? and is all falsely explained ? and what is the sense of all that? what do I do when meeting such a "phantom" ? talk to her? unite with her only once or all the rest of my life?

My master in energetic in france have had a physical manifestation of it attested by 2 other people and it lead to dalaï-lama about 20 years ago.

@@lolopatate6325 hi Lolo ... well dakinis do exist ... they are special female gods appearing only for a real disciple of higher of same spiritual level ... they also appear as personlized energy when the life force (kundalini) drops from top into the brain quarters (see also bardo thödol tschönyi-bardo) ... important is that YOU make this experience and not others ... wish you the best

what you say correspond with tthe way it happened. i know very few things in fact, there is a vastness in manifestation corresponding to the nature of the particularity of the structure of the believing and the basis structure . when it arrives for me it s because i m touched by emotion and i wish i could be enlightenned by the truth of other high levels because everithing can be revealed according to the evolution and the putity of the one who look for connection or revelation... it s the way of authenticity and purity with love and compassion that is the bridge to the higher realms sometimes connected and manifested in my road and i continue to refine and purify at my small level
