Hot glue! Genius! I'm getting ready to install some shaker drawer faces I'm making for a bathroom vanity I'm making. I drove a 1971 VW bug for 15 years from age 16-31: high school, undergrad, med school, internship, residency, fellowship. I built a big engine for it like 4 times and used to drag race it on the weekends for fun. I put I think 160,000 miles on that thing.
You're blessed. I lost my Mom back in August and would love to have had one more opportunity to make her something. Very nice island for your Mom. VW!!
You will be happy years to come my mom asked me to fix a small shelf I had it for a long time and never got around to fixing it she passed away and I beat myself up all the time for not getting that done for her shame on me and great job you did for your mom
My mind is blown by the tool you used to paint. Makes me never want to use a brush again! Might have to get one myself lol. Finished project looks great man!
Funny story, I gained the nickname VeeDub at a wedding one time. Apparently I had a motor in the back that wouldn't quit, like a Volkswagen 😂😂. Awesome video!
Great build. As a retired * -converted to a DIYer, I am repurposing an IKEA Butcher Block Table top to a Kitchen Island and your build as best I can. I have some questions: 1: Insert and insert bolt specs? 2: Where and in how many places did you secure the drawer cabinetry to the table top ? 3: The butcher block wood has had it share of butcher block oil. Can such wood be finished as you did for for your mom's Island? 4: What spec did you use for you inserts? 5: Site address for you plans please, couldn't find.
Love this build! Do you have plans/a sketchup file available? I didn't see anything on your site and really want to build something similar, mostly curious about the various dimensions of parts. Thanks!
OMG! This is great. But I love that you got this there in a little VW. That's great! I think it turned out beautiful. I bet your mom loves it. Will you have plans? I checked out your site and didn't see any. Would love to build one of these.
Awesome job on the kitchen island! It’s always nice doing pieces with a little more sentimental value on it. Also love the editing! Cheers from another fellow Canadian 🙌
@@furthernorthfab oh man, that is so awesome. Makes me happy seeing more Canadians on the platform and making it! Cheers man, excited to see more of your content 👏
@@furthernorthfab wife loves the island. Any plans? As for dominos. You have the the 500 or 700 or both? Why which one? Wanting to make storm windows and regular doors myself.
It would have, but I was using wood my dad milled up a few years before he passed away. Thought it would be special from my mom to know that dad had a part in building her island.
Thank your video. My wife and I are builders and creators from music to saw mills we love staying busy. We have a youtube channel called "themckeels" You have a really good channel, thank you for the inspiration! We are doing a charity build for a widow at our church and your video has helped me problem solve.

That’s rad! My first car that I ever bought for myself was an 89 Jetta. Lots of great memories in that car. Thanks for watching
@@furthernorthfab Love all the effort you put in to your videos and project. Plus I like that you have a full time job on top of this just like I do.
Thanks, Matt
This a beautiful Island. We were wondering if you have the plans for it available yet? Thanks so much
It turned out beautiful! And it matches her kitchen so well! Great job!
Thanks, Sav! Yeah, it fits in her kitchen perfectly.
Oh...and VW...been driving one my whole life. :~) since my first ride a 70 bug in 77!
Awesome job your attention to detail is greatly appreciated!
Wow what a great build.
Nice tip on the glue-up, never thought of doing that. So good to use some wood that has a story, makes it extra special.
VW ;)
It’s the only way to do it if you’re boards are all the same size.
That a boy. Haha
I'v never made anything like this before, but I'm broke and in need of a kitchen surface, so.... here we go!

Can you just make me one? 😂 I thought I wanted to diy this! This is a lot! You did amazing!
Beautiful!
Nice work, Kris! Also, wish it was still as nice outside as some of those shots from your spraying haha.
Haha! Right. Just got back from the grocery store. I miss summer
Volkswagen I loved this video…❤
VW Great work! Inspired me to finally buy materials to build one myself!
Nice! Send me pics on IG when you’re done
That’s really nice. Very well made too. Congrats 👍🏻
Looks fantastic, Kris! Love the contrast of the top and the base. I can't believe you got that whole thing in your VW!
We sure did! Took some doing but we got it in there.
Great video, I really like the combination of painted and wood grain. Plus the power fist spray bottles are great. I bought a few this summer. VW
Haha. They are! One of the PA gems.
Given me some ideas for an island we need! Thx.
So enjoyed watching this video. Wish I had all the tools and the know how! VW
The know how comes with time... and so do the tools 😜 thanks for watching!
This turned out 🔥🔥🔥
It would go up like a match based on how dry that fir was. Haha.
Great project and video as always bud!
Thanks, Ethan. Super appreciate the support.

Very nice build sir!
Thanks, I’m loving how it all come out. Glad I did the walnut drawer boxes.
Yo, I’m stealing that planer idea.
You should! I’ve got a video on how to make it on my channel

Thanks, Angie! I am working on them. Just lots on the go with the holidays. Hopefully over the Christmas break I’ll be able to get the plans together

Working on them! Lots of other stuff had gotten in the way. Thanks for watching 👍
Great video! VW

like it
oh and VW of course
did you screw the drawer box directly to the bottom of the counter top?
Hi, how did you attach the lower two shelf frames to the legs? Nice, build!
I added threaded inserts into the legs and then just lag bolts through the shelves on the underside. I hope that makes sense.
You're a wonderful son!
You mentioned plans that were for sale. Where can someone get these plans?
Go Team VW!!
Yes!!! Thanks for watching and commenting
Vee Dub! Great prawject!
Thanks eh!?!
Love this!! How tall are the legs?
It’s around 32 inches.
@@furthernorthfab Thank you! That’s insane, you were able to fit two shelves and drawers within 32in. Those shelves look pretty spacious. Talented!!
Did you say there were plans?
Were you just trying to use up scrap wood for the legs?
Seem like it would have been much easier to just get some 4x4 posts
It would have, but I was using wood my dad milled up a few years before he passed away. Thought it would be special from my mom to know that dad had a part in building her island.
@@furthernorthfab oh, id thought that you only made the top out of that
I have that same glue gun...hand me down from father in law...great video! Sorry new BMW owner!!
Thanks. I can remember when my mom got the glue gun new!
volkswagennnnnn!
any plans yet?
Where can someone purchase the plans?

suddenly it turns into walnut color !!!!!!
Pure magic really
You mentioned plans but didn't say where to get them.
Volkswagen GTI for next transport
Is there a way to purchase plans for this?
I don’t currently.
Original Volkswagen Beetle.
What program do you use for the 3d plans?
It’s all done in Sketchup
