I noticed that the Norse Pantheon aren't anywhere near as pompous and taunting as the Greek Pantheon, even Odin who is the most tauning out of the Norse Gods truly believes he is the good guy and tries to either talk down to Kratos as someone wise or have superior moral highground. The Olympians downright mock Kratos and deep cut him with every chance they get, Zeus especially after Pandoras needless death cuts the deepest despite knowing that Kratos had the upper hand in their fight thus far twice "Empty?! Hahahahaahahah! After all you have sought, after all you have sacrificed, it ends in another stunning failure! Hahahahahahah!". Zeus words cut so deep that devolve Kratos from having a complete momment of self reflection instantly back into full blindness and pure uncontrollable rage. The Olympians in that aspect are preety accurate to Greek Mythology as they are meant to represent the worse of humanity. Petty, pompous, angry, vengeful and absolutely corrupted by power.
@tigerboost1518 i mean you kinda are, yk kratos released the fear that was in the box in the first game and athenas power to kill a god, so then the fear consumed zuse and turned on his son. Kratos pretty much obliterated his homeland by brutality killing the gods
Villan or not, rarely does a Greek Myth have a happy ending. Most of the times it's a grey area where everyone is a victim and the criminal at the same time. Take the minotaur for example, he was born as a mistake of nature, spend a normal childhood with his real name Asterion, was then taken to the labyrinth, destinied to never leave and find the way out and was given only human meat to consume, he devolved from a mentally normalish person to a mindless beast of broken sanity until Theseus who was another victim of war, sent to be the Minotaurs meal kills the Minotaur and then is hailed as a hero. So it's basically taking a kid, putting into a jail, making it behave like a monster for decades and then parade on it's corpse when it's defeated. It's name forever forgotten to everyone and only his beast name remained "The Minotaur" forever remembered as a monster and not the person he was. It's a super grey line where both Theseus and Asterion where victims and did what they could to survive, nothing more, nothing less.
"Congratulations! You saved Greece!" *looks upon the sheer chaos after having slain several Olympians* Yes...'saved'. I know the original GOW trilogy is about getting your vengeance against those who have wronged you, no matter what, but by the end of GOW 3 you have to wonder if maybe you took it a little too far. Sure, the other lands out there are fine, but the people of Greece didn't exactly have much left to look forward to.
What makes Kratos far better in the original trilogy than the new ones is that he is in full knowledge of what he is doing and loaths himself every step of the way, then he turns into that loathing and hate about himself and externalizes it on to the Gods unt there is no one left and all he can do is atone by taking the life of the last monster standing, himself.
GoW4 ending music indicates a triumph, Gow3 ending music indicates the irony, after his greatest triumph, was truly the lowest point for Kratos. He had every intention to die then and there if not for the curse that plagued him to stay in life.
I think there will be little (if not none) moments that can match the whole event of Zeus vs Kratos. The narrative, the events that drove Kratos into that chamber, the convergence of the whole plot, EVERYTHING led to that very instant where Zeus clashes against Kratos with full force. I remember getting the goosebumps of my life during that moment when Zeus and Kratos are yelling at each other and Zeus is about to seemingly tear Pandora in two, only to then throw her off and setting off Kratos to his full rage. Simply one of the best moments in gaming history in my opinion, the most memorable in these past years
This is THE Kratos that made every pantheon tremble at his name. A man who ascended to godhood and descended from. Wherever he lands, a mountain of sacrifices, fear, and death will be made.
