The lines running through the radiator serve two purposes. 1. They assist in warming up your transmission fluid during cold starts. 2. Maintaining proper transmission temperature during operation. Heat is the enemy of our transmissions and an external cooler is a good thing. However, most mechanics would suggest using an external cooler in addition to the radiators cooler, not in place of it. This way you get the benefit of extra fluid capacity, improved cooling and quickly bring your radiator fluid up to operational temperatures if you live in regions which have temperatures which approach freezing. Ps: This is an excellent time to change fluids.
I have a 2000 4runner and I'm very happy with this vehicle,...you should have very little trouble with this third gen runner. Hopefully it's been maintained property in the past. Keep the videos coming.
I've read that if you mount the cooler sideways, that the INLET should be the bottom hose and the OUTLET should be the top hose. May want to do a little research on your own, but worth mentioning... I'll be doing mine this weekend.
destroy43 I actually read the opposite on several forums. I’ve also seen where people mount it facing down, or on the other side. I’ll be doing this job again, so I’ll look into it. But I did a good bit of research before doing this to get other people’s input.
Can I ask why you are planning to do the job again? Was there something that you think you did wrong? I just bought an 80k mile '01 4Runner and am getting ready to put an external cooler on it. If there is something you think you did wrong, I want to make sure I don't follow your error. Thanks!
Pointless babble until 2:21 ... actually no, still pointless until 5:23. And it's not a motor, it's an engine. Really this is 80% completely babble and bad videography. Also shitty opening and closing music. The only thing I learned from this video is that this mod is even a thing, so there is that. Thank you.

Looks like you need to change your trans fluid
paw crawl Owens possibly. Transmissions are one thing I honestly know nothing about. I ended up wrecking this thing not too long after anyway
