- The harp is only played by the wind.
Be advised that the sounds are partly shrill and may be disturbing for some. Careful listening is recommended.
Windharfe - Der Wind weht durch die Saiten und regt sie zum Schwingen an.
Die Klänge können zum Teil sehr schrill wirken. Um entsprechende Vorsicht wird gebeten.

“Make me thy Lyre, ev'n as the forset is:. . .” P B Shelley 🥰😍
It’s so calming I’m so relaxed 😌
I'm glad you like it - thanks for stopping by!
Wow
Fantastic
I found out about these things through Chopin's "Aeolian Harp" Etude (Op. 25 No. 1).
Thanks for listening, and for the hint with the Chopin etude, I didn't know that one!
@@harfenspieler it's such a beautiful piece, you for sure won't regret listening to. =)
I found out about aeolian harp from Shelley's Ode to the West Wind. :)
Me 3 :)

Muito relaxante.
Muito obrigado!
This is the music that plays right with Capt. Kirk meets the alien female.
I never thought about it, but it seems very fitting! 😆
Fantastic. Where can i get one?
First contact would be harp makers/luthiers in your area/country. Then, there are some internationally present companies that make harps on a larger scale, such as Aoyama, Camac, Lyon & Healy, Salvi, to name the bigger ones.
just WOW
How did you get such a clean recording? Piezo?
Yes, two piezo pickups inside the harp. 😊
What would happen if you tuned the harp to a meantone temperament?
I haven't tried that yet - I suppose you would hear more chord-like resonances due to the pure thirds in the meantone scale, hoping that the "pure" intervals will override the "nasty" ones. ;-)
For this recording, I only slightly modified the equal-tempered tuning to have cleaner fifths.
@@harfenspieler One thing about equal temperament is that the fifth is not the only interval that is close to just - the second is also extremely close to the just 9/8 ratio. It also so happens that equal temperaments seconds are slightly wide, just like fifths, so correcting one also corrects the other.
Thinking about it, the second might be an even more important interval for the aeolian harp than the fifth. (Most) Adjacent strings on a harp sound a second apart! Being so close together gives them a lot of chance to interact.
Now the third is different in its own way. In equal temperament, thirds are narrow, so tuning toward just thirds will weaken fifths (and seconds). You're trading one strong resonance for another.
You might also experiment with more exotic things like only pure thirds (sacrificing octaves to do so), or even completely different scales. Any scale with 7 or fewer notes to an octave is fair game - remember that you can untension or just mute strings to silence them and produce a reduced scale, and tuning strings up or down a within a half or maybe even a full step is reasonable. Of course, if you did this, you'd have to completely retune it the next time you wanted to play it normally.
Speaking of tuning, and out of curiosity, how often do you have to tune a harp? Comparable to something like a harpsichord?
@@Keldor314 you must mean a zither?
I wish I had the words to explain my idea on a tuning for a proper aeolian harp. This is pretty cool though
@@Michael_______ I was referring to a typical concert harp. The strings sound the natural notes, ABCDEFG, and there's a set of pedals at the bottom that you can use to change the pitches of strings to produce accidentals - for instance, you can change all the C strings to sound as C# by pushing the C pedal into the lower (I think) position.
Would you mind recording it tuned to a pentatonic scale, i.e. C D E Fb G A B# ? ;-)
I will be happy to try it out - thanks for the idea!
@@harfenspieler wow! Tell me when you have done it
Hi Ralf, lazing around again, huh? Always the same with these musicians... ;-)
Nature is such a great composer, wouldn't you agree? :-)
@@harfenspieler yes
Fellow man, brothers, sisters & dear mothers of thee earth, I took a great honor this morning to put thee # of likes from 68 to 69. Let it be that it stays this way, as is good and just, for all like you & I may be humbled & enjoy this number, yay this fine number for many days forevermore till the unspoken name of one unrighteous prick cast forth thy number to 70 and onward further from good. Let him be dashed like a potters vassal & not to be counted among us as the super dope & totally cool forevermore. For the sake of laughter & greatness in Jesus name amen.
