Thanks for that! My seed starting fertilization is similar to yours. I’m using a different product called Schultz, it a liquid, you just add 7 drops per quart or litre every time you water. I have a 4 quart watering can, so I add 28 drops to the can every time I fill it. I look after the health of my soil with an annual addition of homemade compost, but then I feel free to feed the plants with man made fertilizer. I think organic fertilizer would be a better choice if you don’t have a compost strategy, as you at least get some organic matter into the soil, but once you have soil flourishing with life, man made fertilizer is a handy way to tailor the nutrients to the specific needs of your crop. My mix is my best soil, compost, rotted cow manure, some sand, earthworm castings, and blood meal. Has a nice loose but not too loose consistency and pushes the plant growth pretty good. Also sub with fish emulsion later on.
I make a gallon jug of deluded fertilizer ready to go for my seedlings. I started small for the last couple of years, had some plant sales for my neighbors and they love my plants so this year I am going to ramp it up for a broader “plant/yard sale”. I love osmocote but usually don’t use that until I’ve uppotted or transplanted. I think I’ll be using that for a mess of hanging begonias I am going to start from seed.
I actually sow my seeds in potting mix. I use the Fox Farm Coco Loco, which is light and fluffy so the seeds CAN start, and then it does also have some nutritional value. I'll come along with fish fertilizer at quarter strength once I have a few sets of true leaves. This will be my third year doing it this way. (In Iowa)
My best results come from my own seedling mix...no ferts needed at all through planting out :) 1/4 basic potting mix (any) 1/4 peat moss, 1/4 perlite, 1/4 compost (my own)...mix well and moisten before putting seeds in tray cells. Seedlings explode better than anything else I've tried and I only need to bottom water until I harden off and plant out. When I start seeds in 2/3 full solo cups NO up-planting needed...real time saver.
I'm testing. So I am mixing 10 10 10 in the soil or I dilute the stinky stuff after growth( no 10 10 10) .Just trying to see what works for ME in north Florida .
Hey! Thanks for the info and tips and making it interesting. I am reading the Osmocote is either 14-14-14 or 15-9-12. There is the indoor outdoor kind with the pink label and the green flower and vegetable… can you show which one you use?
I laughed out loud at the my names not sandy comment. 🤣
You have the right touch, confident and gentle. I like your approach.
I appreciate that!

There are uses for both for sure.

Thank you for helping us with the seedlings 🌱
Any time!

Thank you for explaining things so well!
Glad it was helpful!

I did fish fertilizer only for years and it worked great. Once I started growing more seedlings the smell was to much
Lol, the smell, but it works

does the potting mix have fertilizer in it already. Most do and its slow release.
Love the shirt dude, got one just like it!
🤙🤙
I dont see this fertilizer on your Amazon list, says updated 2 years ago. U should get that affiliate credit! Thanks for the knowledge ❤
I added it on there
Do you top or bottom water using the osmocote? thanks
Top mostly but will do both
This was my question too! I wasn't sure if watering from the bottom would be enough to activate the osmicote...
If it gets wet it will work

Ben, I'm using the Osmocote like you suggested. How do you time your watering and use of the fan so that the Osmocote doesn't just dry up again? TIA!
It can dry up. There is no timing
