Cool! "Under the Bridge" began as something of an ode to Los Angeles reflecting singer Anthony Kiedis recovery from heroin addiction. But the song took on a whole new meaning after Los Angeles rioted a month after it came out in 1992 following the acquittal of the four cops whose vicious beating of motorist Rodney King shocked the conscience of the nation after an amateur videographer took his footage to the media. When you're ready for more from Red Hot Chili Peppers also check out "Dark Necessities", "Give It Away", "Can't Stop", and "Suck My Kiss" for more bad ass bass playing.
When the band went to record this song, they found it particularly difficult to end. They tried several things, but nothing seemed to work. Finally one of the band members offered “Hey, my mom is in a choir. Maybe she can bring the girls in, and they can sing the ending?” They tried that. And obviously, it worked!
A really great song, I'd say the best one by this band, although they were popular for years. I'd call the song "California grunge." RHCP wasn't a grunge band, but they were in that era, and this particular song is dark and depressing. It's kind of like the grunge version of "LA Woman" by the Doors.
Great song! Anthony Kiedis has an awesome voice. He was also in the movie "POINT BREAK" (1991) with Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Gary Busey. He was in the beach scene. Fantastic Must See Movie!!
First time I heard this song, I thought it was perfection, four notes in. (And it just kept getting better!) You should check out Weird Al’s parody, Bedrock Anthem.😂
I had a drug overdose in Miami when I was 17 in the 90's I remember before that listening to this song everyday before elementary school when it came out. That night I was running for my life and woke up not knowing how I ended up on the floor of my father's apartment 3 days later
Ace. I’m choosing you to play 2 songs that I know you will love. First Chuck Mangione Land of Make Believe ( with the female singer) and Cher The way of Love. ❤thanks so much ❤

The ending is iconic.
It is personal. He battled drug addiction. Hauntingly beautiful song.
I conquered a 30 year crack addiction. On my own. I get it bro. Love from Texas.
“Breaking the girl” is a really cool song
