  • From the author of THE PUSH, a pageturner about four suburban families whose lives are changed when the unthinkable happens--and what is lost when good people make unconscionable choices. THE WHISPERS is a novel about what happens when we put our needs ahead of our children's. Exploring the quiet sacrifices of motherhood, the intuitions that we silence, the complexities of our closest friendships, and the danger of envy, this is a novel about the reverberations of life's most difficult decisions.

When I finished The Push, I couldn't wait for Ashley Audrain's next book. I devoured The Whispers, which--can it be so?--I enjoyed even more than The Push. If readers can't connect even a little bit with any of these characters, they are not an urban or suburban woman in North America these days. The book is so well written and gets so in-depth into these characters' lives and minds that you will see yourself or others in them. Guaranteed. All of these women wound up living on the same block, so they share that bond, but they represent a multitude of perspectives and are nothing alike. Excellent novel, and I can't wait for Audrain's third book, whatever that may be. Such a good question: Who was the easiest and the hardest to write? It made me wonder too which character is most like Ashley Audrain.
