  • The art of engineering rockwork in a theme park such as Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom and the Klugheim area of Phantasialand known for Taron is quite fascinating. In this video, I will detail the process of creating rockwork in an amusement park.

Six Flags: And here we have the Batmobile (a ‘99 Honda Accord with a Batman bumper sticker) and Wonder Woman’s invisible plane (you figure it out)

Hilarious comment. That said, some Six Flags parks do have rockwork, though certainly not to the same scale.

Excellent idea for a video. Quality rock work really elevates (no pun intended) a park. It can really look amazing, immerse you in an experience and hide less aesthetically pleasing backstage areas. Any ride or park land can be immediately improved with good rock work. I know a lot of enthusiasts say "all I care about is a quality coaster layout" but I think ignoring the appearance and the build up to an attraction is nonsense.

Thank you. Rockwork definitely makes a park or ride better, and I think even the most hardcore thrill seekers must admit that a ride with rockwork is typically more fun and engaging than a similar ride without rockwork.

Who would have thought that rocks would play such an important role on making a ride awesome.

Fantastic detail! Great video... It's something we're very much missing in the UK. There are little to no rockwork theming here...

I’m glad you liked the video! I haven’t been to any UK theme parks, but maybe in the future we will see more rockwork there.

Totally awesome. Amazing work from highly skilled craftsmen. It works because of attention to detail as described in this video.

i think everest only took 3 years to construct from what i heard about it. it was announced 2003 completed 2006. and the modeling physical and digital took 18 months i think. so that may be part of the 3 years or additional.
though, with everest i wouldnt use as a basis example because its one of the biggest versions of this kinda construction and they innovated alot on that project. like the scaffolding sticking out of the rock work was new for that project, when traditionally they will build it around the structure shape. im not sure if disney kept using that outward jutting system since then or not.
i think itd also be good to mention that i dont think they usually use the steel frame inside the rock or natural structures as support to hold anything else up besides the shell. coasters and such would have their own support.
plus that the backs of these types of structures are often left open and exposed.
nice video though, i would love to see more on this that i dont know about
