  • I started the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo, an inland city of Spain.
Primitivo means the first one, the most ancient pilgrimage route leading to Santiago de Compostela, the place where the Tomb of Saint James, one of the apostles, was discovered in the 9th century.
This walk is effectively a trail, crossing countryside, hills, small villages, places of great natural beauty.
The places where I stayed were hostels with bunk beds, costing anything between £8 to £19 depending on whether they were public or private.
It is easy to make friends along the way. The first person I met was Philipp, a German guy, 23 years old. We made friends on the bus from the airport to the city.
We visited the cathedral, went to the Tourist office and picked up a small copybook, our book of credentials, where we could record the places we visited, with a stamp and date. This system gave us access to discounts along the way, and a certificate at the end of the walk.
The first two days we travelled to Grado and then Cornellana.
We met a friend of mine from Naples, some Italian girls and some German guys. We drank water from old springs, the Fuentes. The second night Philipp was violently sick. I may be that he caught a virus, or it may have been the water, we don't know. Next time, I will carry a flask with a micro filter, just in case.
The second night we had a nice dinner, and felt we had achieved friendship as well as having covered a great distance walking in nature and through history. I was the only one to go to the village Fiesta, late at night (it started at midnight).
Keep watching for upcoming videos of Camino Primitivo.
