I have just completed the game in 75 hours, and strange enough, I rarely feel bored listening to Tartarus theme (maybe a bit on block 1 because of its limited instrument). Block 5 is pretty good and block 6 is a straight banger.
I love how empty It feels and sounds in the beginning and the layers add more depth and fullness as you progress through both story and floors. Also, more shadows appear as more are victims to Apathy syndrome. It's so amazing
Block 6 is the best one and I listen to it for more than 10 or so minutes by the time it was too late to run from the reaper. He attacked me from behind but I still managed to beat him. Man I love this kind of music.
He is easy to kill bro but I was high enough to do it though. If you have a persona that physical barrier resistance to deflect the reaper attacks and shouldn’t be problem with that. That’s all he uses physically attacks pretty much. I killed one hit with main character that kills reaper 9999 respectively. I forgot what’s a called though.
so thankful someone make a reload version of this. the tartarus themes, especially adamah’s always got me so hyped up. legit used to play this during late night homework sessions. this is seriously so good
[spoilers ahead] Block 1: Makoto, Yukari and Junpei just awakened to their personas. They are unfamiliar with Tartarus and it's mysteries, and aren't very confident in their abilities. And this place feels pretty creepy.. Just what is it exactly..? Block 2: Makoto, Yukari and Junpei have taken down their first full moon shadow, and have gained a little bit of confidence. Not to mention Akihiko has joined the party, and soon Fuuka will as well. Block 3: Okay, but what are they doing this for? They begin to question themselves and their mission. The Lost are still very much rampant, and where did Tartarus and it's shadows come from? As the drums settle and the piano melody evolves, as they eventually learn a little bit more about what's really going on. Especially after summer vacation. Block 4: Well, we're gonna keep doing this right? We're in too deep. And fighting shadows is actually sort of fun.. Right? The melody is the same, but the song doesn't gives off the same bounce as the 2nd Block, are they really doing the right thing? Let's not forget losing someone very close to us.. If we're going to keep doing this, we at least need to do it for them. Block 5: Everyone has been enlightened, and the mission has changed. Even after the final full moon shadow was defeated, the Dark Hour still remains. They think the key to everything lies at the top of Tartarus, but does it really..? Conveniently a peculiar looking student named Ryoji has made his way into Gekkoukan High.. Block 6: They're no longer SEES, they're the Nyx Annihilation Team. The song is complete, and everyone shares a common goal. By any and all means necessary, even if Ryoji says Nyx is impervious to defeat, trying is the least they can do. After making the greatest and most important decision in their lives, they must scale the very final block of Tartarus, the tower they've been climbing since Makoto's arrival in April. What happens next at the top of the tower is indescribable with mere words.
quite ironic that the dungeon named tartarus (often depicted as the lowest part of the underworld in Greek mythology, on top of being the name of the deity referred to as the ‘father of monsters’), is a giant tower reaching to the moon in a hidden 25th hour between midnight and 1 am, while the actual underground dungeon leading into the depths of the earth (metaphysically), is just ‘mementos’ (literally the plural of ‘memory’ in latin).
Note: Makoto is actually the strongest Wildcard because he had the death arcana inside him and also got some conection with Tartarus, not only that, said conection was what allowed him to make the great seal and he obtained his final powers as he is the MC that cared the most of his friends, so much he was willing to die unlike the others who met them for personal reasons and even if they were on the same, had way less preasure and personal conection with them
I have to say that Reload's version feels more aggressive with the beat, and the rhythm hasn't changed (which is great), and the upbeat in Block 5-6 feels more natural than the original. However the piano feels less powerful compared to the original.
They probably thought that by making the piano's more gentle it would give the tracks more of a mystic feel to them. That's how I felt playing through but despite that I do miss the sound of the piano in the original.
I think we can all agree that we only truly learnt to appreciate the Tartarus ost after grinding for an ungodly amount of time. Jokes aside though, I love what they did with the Tartarus ost in Reload. The changes made are subtle but add so much. Wish I could say that about every track in the game though.
I'm considering adding this as an example to the TV Tropes page "Evolving Music". In addition to the added instrumentals, how would you describe the way the BGM changes with each new block? I want to say it gains new "phrases" but I don't quite remember if that's an appropriate term here...
One thing that always irked me a lot is how they "downgrade" the beat for the 3rd block, just to readd it in tziah after. Other than that i absolutely love the themes
For as much as Tartarus is remembered for being a slog of a dungeon system, the music slaps. Always has, and even in Reload it just got BETTER imo, the motif build is beautiful.
Just being nitpicky here - did you do this in Audacity or a video editor? Seems like it metronomically skips a little bit in the transitions (2:38 in particular). You could fix this by lining up the tempo in a DAW. Also the Block 1-2 transition throws me for a loop, back when I did the OG Persona 3 mix I remember one of the biggest things that pissed me off about the other mixes was that they never did that transition properly or seamlessly enough. You added an extra beat there by mistake and it gets on my DAMN NERVES AAAAGHHH
I wish they changed the Tartarus song for Reload. Hearing this bland melody for a total of 20-30 hours when playing the P3P port was torture enough. It's a shame, because the other tracks are great, idk what devil tempted them to use the worst one for a place you'd spend the most time in.
