- Florida shark fishing permit, what you need to know when targeting sharks from the shore and how to get your permit in under 30 minutes. As of July first FWC has implemented a new educational course that you must take annually if you plan on targeting sharks from the beach, pier or jetty. The course consist of four modules and a 10 question quiz. You must watch each module to move on to the next. The primary topics include:
knowing your shark species
Not removing sharks from the water upon release
Using the proper tackle to subdue the fish
Cutting the hook or leader for quicker release times
Cleaning up your area
Not targeting prohibited or endangered sharks
Being courteous to home owners on the beach
Not chumming where swimmers swim, such as the beach
Overall it is a common sense course, very easy and hopefully it will help people to respect the fish and do what is right for their sake and the people around them sake. First time in my life I agree with FWC. Do your part people! Save the oceans 🌊
Fwc keeps the fish population stable and collect data to see if the fish are healthy or there's.something wrong fwc does not harm fish unless if necessary so there is no reason to hate fwc they are amazing people they help not destroy
So appreciative of this program. I've encouraged many friends to get this required "free permit". Remember it is a $50 fine if you don't get this permit and shorebase Shark fish in Florida.

I agree with you and for once the FWC.. Shark are around the beaches always, fishing or not.. This is simple and a easy and cheap way to educate and help sharks.. Thumbs up.. Great video Josh..

I absolutely agree. I've seen lots of videos on UA-cam with people bringing endangered species on the beach and keeping them there for far too long, just for a photo op. I think this is long overdue.
I highly agree with this permit (assuming it will be enforced/ heavy fines to people catching big sharks without it) & reccomend taking the course for anyone interested in the regulations, ecosystem balance, or just sharks in general. Overall very quick, interesting and painless certification

My dad works for fwc and it's to keep the shark population healthy because hooks left in the mouth of fish rust and the rust kills the fish and you basically explained the rest of it but it helps keep us safe and the shark population healthy because sharks keep the balance of many fish from over population and the lesson I basically telling you how to be safe and keep the fish safe and the reason people think sharks are man eaters and things like that it's there instinct to attack to serten movemeants

Nice to know 👍. Wonder if you have disability fishing license if you have to do the same? I will look and check that out.. I think it's awesome. If it's not legal I think it's always great to release. And shark on the other hand even know that I know it's good eating. We need to protect the species.
Hey bro I think that this permit is going to be good I think it's going to do for the best because we have a lot of shark fishermen out there that don't have the knowledge that haven't been doing it for a while as many people have been doing I am a shark fisherman myself I've been doing it since I was 15 I do it right off Anna Maria City Pier my biggest shark is 14 ft and it's a hammerhead right off of bean point I believe department will be good for the better this will give everybody the basic knowledge that they need this way they don't hurt the species but also the Northerners need to also understand that a lot of us Southern Boys do this as a sport because it's an adrenaline rush we don't go up North and complain about them deer hunting or anything like that because some of us just don't think that's right to kill Bambi just like they don't think it's right for us to catch sharks they live in the water you swimming just remember that it's a great sport fishing it's a good thing to get into but know your knowledge

It's an educational course but no money is required for the permit.

Stephen Hibbert Hey, I know I’m 6 months late, but hey! Along Anna Maria beach there are 3 old piers that are incredible for shark fishing! Landed a 7ft sandbar shark and a 6ft sandbar. Both on spinning reels, they are fairly hidden so it might be difficult to find them(the piers). And then there’s the Rod and Reel pier. Also very good fishing for kind of everything, including sharks! Except there are normally quite a few people there so it might get crowded, and crossing other’s lines is always an issue on crowded days.
Stephen Hibbert and just a side note! The 3 piers arnt over UA-cam or anywhere else, they’re an uncommon place to shark fish although they are great!

So now on top of buying a fishing liscens mans going have pass a dumb test to fish from beach and pier gess fl is off the fishing I can only make it there 1 time year to fish so I gess they lost my money I've never caught a shark were I fish any way just go for gar fish

Ok we get the part where you take the test and get the certificate but how in the hell do you enter your ID code to get the ACTUAL PERMIT!?????
