I would agree with this assessment and only add that Al Vizzutti on his worst day is still better than 99% of the trumpet players out there on their best day.
whats awesome about him is that everytime he plays bby him self he has like a bucket of ice. and if any1 here actually knows the trumpet well it's that if you hit high or when you plays loud and other stuff. like that your trumpet absorbs a lot of traction from wind speed. so when he plays carnival of venice he has to put his trumpet into the bucket of ice cause it gets so hot from im tripple tounging double octives.
Hey, c'mon fellow musicians...The band isn't playing wrong notes left-n-right...it is sophisticated complex chord structure! It's the cutting edge of the musical frontier! And the texture is called Beginner Band Motif! I hope the music dept. paid Vizzuti to be there. He must truely suffer sometimes doing these cameo appearances.
Eastman? Wish I could find a clip of him playing some theme from star trek. Sounds silly, believe me, but heard him in person and couldn't get it out of my mind for weeks. His sound is just there, regardless of circumstance.
My complaint is not the missed notes but the lack of tone quality of the group. You would be surprised how good tone quality can overshadow a bad note every now and then.
That's my major complaint about school bands. How can they not tune up better? School bands are notorious for having a collective out of tune experience. Use one reference and tune up before the performance. I can barely tell what notes they're playing when the trumpeter stops periodically. He knows he's playing tennis in a mine field, but sometimes you just have to accept the conditions and run with it. His control and tone are excellent by the way.
he is playing the regular over the rainbow, but he is adding in some things, there is no sheet music for the things he adds in. but yeah if you want the regular over the rainbow, personal msg me and i will give it to you lol.
no i'm not. look it up on google. or something. plus my sectional teacher gave us an entire lesson about it. he met him allen personally and he told him.
The kids in the band had to start somewhere right? We arent born playing as well as maynard, we all have to start playing at some point. Vizutti probably has as much experience as all those kids and the band director combined.
I use pressure for certain notes, but if you're really good with it you don't need any pressure. You should be able to play the whole song with just your lips, then your mouthpiece, then your horn.
Search google for free sheet music + name of the song and else just sheet music + song...In the worst case you have to pay a few bucks for it. Or search for the midi file, and turn it into sheetmusic.
I would guess somewhat. Without actually seeing the music he was practicing from its nigh on impossible to guess if it was all commited to memory, but if I had to guess, judging from the fact that he's a capable jazz musician I'd say he's paraphrasing (using but not sticking directly to the melody and including additional notes to add interest). He didn't improvise in the traditional sense though, as he didn't take a solo, he stuck to the melody throughout
There's no such thing as no pressure. If you play a trumpet hanging from the ceiling on a string. There is pressure. Pressure is used to seal the airstream around the lips and get more meat in to the mouthpiece for a fatter sound in the upper register. This "no pressure theory" is completely bogus. Point is, just pick up the horn and make sure you upt good air in to it. That should be your only focus" if what you're playing sounds good, that's great, ifit's not.. then fix it.
A hard attack is done like this. put your tongue in the T position having it touch the top of your mouth. And blow. Pressure will build up. Release the tongue and let the build up pressure go through the horn. Really hard attack. Now do the opposite for a legato :0). aka no built up pressure fluid stream of airjust "bump" the air with the tongue.
Vizzutti sounds great. The band is alright (they're kids). Musicians should be pleased that there are opportunities for high school kids to meet and play with world class talent, whatever the reason. I hope there is a special place in hell for people that use UA-cam to to talk down videos and hassle commentators. Let's try to keep it PG!
LoL. Yeah, that band was a bit shakey to say the least. Even a man as skilled as Vizzuti wavered a bit through that, a few mis-pitches and the such. Its really hard to play at your best when you have such a shaky band backing you up.
playing on the mouthpiece and playing on the horn are 2 different things. The only way to reduce pressureis to strengthen the embrochure "properly" and that comes with proper practice.
thats not what i'm getting at though. i not saying he puts his whole trumpet in the ice just the part where the mouthpiece goes. k this is why. my teacher gave us a lesson on how when you hit a d in the staff yours blowing wind around 80mph. thats alot so when allen plays he's hitting all the crazy stuff. so he's making all this friction and eventually his mouthpiece gets to hot to play so he has to kool it down for a second. he doesn't leave it in there he justs puts the mouthpiecepartfor3secs.
Having a cold instrument will make the note become flat, the air moves slower causing the note to settle under the pitch. The hottest your trumpet can get is however hot your body is, usually 98.6 degrees farenhiet. thus, as soon as you start playing, your tuning will change, and be very difficult to maintain. maybe even a 40 cent difference. Bottom line is, Iced trumpet-bad
Wow. didn't know there were schools out there with such small bands. at my school we have about 350 band students out of an almost 4000 student population. (almost 550 including orchestra)
nobodys comparing the two.. its incomprable.. im saying in general.. this band is a joke..my middle school band and many others i heard play much better
I see what you're saying. "If you're really good, you can do it with minimum pressure." If you're really good you have trained properly. And yeah you should be able toplay it with minimum pressure
trumpets are cylindrical not conical and a crappy recording couldnt possibly capture the depth and true tone color of vizzutti. Plus the band sucked. you dont know what your talking about
That band is absolutely awful. I think it was their terrible intonation that made him miss a few notes. I have played with out of tune groups and it is really hard to sound your best no matter who you are!
I bet i get thumbs down for this, but he really isnt as musical as he should be with that technique. It is sad that he is one of the best living trumpeters. Bring back Davis, Gillespie, Armstrong!
I would agree with this assessment and only add that Al Vizzutti on his worst day is still better than 99% of the trumpet players out there on their best day.
Woah. I dunno... if Allen Vizzutti sat in with my highschool band i probably would have... i dunno. Well holy shit.
And yet he manages to do it beautifully, and make it all look easy.
damn nice tone on high notes allen vizzuti OWNS
whats awesome about him is that everytime he plays bby him self he has like a bucket of ice. and if any1 here actually knows the trumpet well it's that if you hit high or when you plays loud and other stuff. like that your trumpet absorbs a lot of traction from wind speed. so when he plays carnival of venice he has to put his trumpet into the bucket of ice cause it gets so hot from im tripple tounging double octives.
Great Job! The band is learning and I appreciate that. I noticed Allen used hand vibrato on his valve buttons....good technique!
wow im starting playing instruments this year and i want to play the trumpet and this is one of my favourite songs! :)

wow lol allen vizzutti is Fallin sleep
He teaches trumpet lessons at the University of Washington.
yeah the band's tuning is off the wall. it's nice to hear allen kak a few times.
Very cool.
Amen!
i hope this is a beginning band. but he is a-m-a-z-i-n-g

i wish i could be in a that accompanying band T_T

omg the schoolband in the background has a real bad intunation... but allen is very nice.
AHHhh he slots like a motha!
no i'm not. look it up on google. or something. plus my sectional teacher gave us an entire lesson about it. he met him allen personally and he told him.
dude ur soooooooo lucky
is this your school band?
The kids in the band had to start somewhere right? We arent born playing as well as maynard, we all have to start playing at some point. Vizutti probably has as much experience as all those kids and the band director combined.
My high school had about 130 in a school off 1000

My HS was like... 80... lol. I've seen smaller.
Think of what the Jazz band was like.... lol.
If he is touring, I doubt he would be able to come. That would be pretty sweet though.
Which is, indirectly, what I'm trying to say.
poor him...not easy to find the pitch with such an orchestra
yamaha i think
Transcribe it :)
I like it aprt from that split note at 1:54-1:55

i think they are pretty damn good for a high school band. who knows, perhaps even some of them could grow up to be future vizzuti's
heh yea. he sounds good...as usual
thats not what i'm getting at though. i not saying he puts his whole trumpet in the ice just the part where the mouthpiece goes. k this is why. my teacher gave us a lesson on how when you hit a d in the staff yours blowing wind around 80mph. thats alot so when allen plays he's hitting all the crazy stuff. so he's making all this friction and eventually his mouthpiece gets to hot to play so he has to kool it down for a second. he doesn't leave it in there he justs puts the mouthpiecepartfor3secs.

awesome
anyone else hear someone clapping?
=/
O_O He clipped 2 notes.
sarcasm, i hope.
Intunation... lol
this band is a joke.. i have never heard a highschool band this bad.. maybe it was mislabeled and is a 5th grade band,.. but vizzutti is amazing..
Wow. didn't know there were schools out there with such small bands. at my school we have about 350 band students out of an almost 4000 student population. (almost 550 including orchestra)
everyone hears: blah blah blah I like to be a douche.
