    I agree! Danny Kaye was handsome until the day he died! I don't think I've ever seen a man age so gracefully. And he is amazing in this role. Wish he'd had a crack at more dramatic roles.

    I've seen a clip of this and I saw the power in Danny Kaye's eyes when he did it. It's only been until now that I've been able to see this powerful moment. It is a powerful performance from a very talented man in whom I have so much respect for. It is a very tragic time in history and in my mind this scene is just one of the moments why it is still important for us to remember.

    I loved Danny Kaye as a child. I still remember his variety show. He was an amazing performer and a very handsome man until the day he died. I live in Skokie now and, while I am not Jewish, I remember the time when the Nazis wanted to march through our community. This was an amazing performance and so very true to the roots of the community in Skokie. We are again in a time when Jews and other ethnic groups are being demonized by our President and his supporters. It must never happen again here in Skokie or anywhere in the United 'States.

    WOW! Tears in my eyes. I want to see this whole movie now. LOVE Danny Kaye. So impressed at his passion (because he truly was a 'part' of that--he lived during that time). That was real.

    I've never seen this film but I love Danny Kaye, I've seen all his older movies and will see this one just because he's in it. He's such a wonderful diverse actor. Truly an American treasure.

    I have nursed a woman years ago in Sydney, with a number tattooed on her arm, it was humbling!
    The late Danny Kaye has always been a consummate performer and this is a powerful performance, breath taking and powerful. I'm currently dealing with people trying to silence others fighting for Democracy in coup ridden Fiji and I frequently use this video to expose the Regime to encourage Citizens of Fiji to take a stand against tyranny and oppression. There is too much of it happening around the globe and we must oppress the oppressors before they get a foothold.

    Very fine dramatization of the real-life tensions among the Jews in Skokie, IL. when the American Nazi Party announced they would hold a rally there on July 4, 1977. Danny Kaye gives an excellent performance and the movie addresses a very important concern about how far free speech should go. Should the Nazis be allowed to hold their rally, despite how hateful and despicable they are? Or does Danny Kaye's character (and others in the audience who portray Holocaust survivors) have a point: to keep silent when we should protest will only repeat history?

    Good movie. Danny Kaye was GREAT in this movie! He gave a moving performance. I wish he'd made more dramatic movies. As a little girl, I had a crush on Danny Kaye and thought he was so handsome & had wonderful red, thick wavy hair. He stayed handsome as he aged! And what a dancer. A consummate entertainer. This is a must-see movie, though, for those who love him and have an interest in the Jews/Nazi issue. It's a true story.

      He did The Five Pennies, another dramatic role, and the first one I had ever seen him perform. Marvelous movie, too. Not as topical as Skokie but but every bit as good.

    This is a great part of a film. Notice, people speak with a Jewish accent. Somehow with New York - Yiddish English.
    The wonderful Danny Kay was a Jew from Brooklyn - very well spoken, very audible! Unique man! Bless him!

      Danny Kaye’s family, the Kaminskys, came from the Ukraine-Danny was the only member born in the US- so his Russian accent is from birth. An amazing life he had.

    I've never claimed any of my Jewish people were Arabs. There are extremists in every group. The Rabbi that wrote that letter does not represent the whole of Judaism anymore than you represent the whole of antisemitic gentiles. I would be willing to bet there are a number of gentiles, yourself included that think you're pretty top stuff too, which i why you resent others. The fact of the matter is most Jews take education serious and therefore tend to be smarter than average.

    We have a lot of Mexicans in Texas who have not assimilated and there are are areas with Asians in our city that you would think you left the US and were in another country. We have areas that are highly populated with Muslims that look like you are in Beirut. So what's your problem with Jews holding onto their heritage? Of all the people groups of the Bible they are the only ones that have remained because God told them NOT to assimilate. So who should they listen to you or God?

  • @kathleenmarion
    @kathleenmarion 11 років тому +1

    Jews are a race and it can be found in our DNA. Just as it can in others. The bible is our final say in how we as a people conduct ourselves in the world. It says to stay separate from the gentiles, it says not to get involved with the ways of the gentiles, many of those ways having pagan origins. So yes we tend to keep ourselves separated, but we also blend in and assimilate in many ways. Jewish places of education tend to be superior because we take education serious, but anyone can attend.
