This is a beautiful join. I hated sewing ends which kept me from doing squares or any motif projects but with this I definitely want to do some motif projects. I loved doing the motifs and have baskets full of motifs and now I have a join I can use with less weaving in ends. Thank you for this video! 💕 😊

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I love granny squares but I'll do a blanket or cardigan, hate the joining process, and then not do another for a few years. After burying the thread 3 or 4 times on each square and then having to join as well they are a lot of work. I had tried the more traditional join as you go and always ripped it out and slip stitch or SC joined because I didn't like the look of the other join as you go separating and looking messy. This method was easy to pick up, no more ends to weave in and most importantly to me looks amazing!!! I'm a 40 year crocheter, I can't believe I didn't think of this myself. Hands down the most important crochet video I've seen on UA-cam.

Thank you for this video. I was looking for a way to Join As You Go and after much searching and trying I found your video and it is the clearest one I have found and am now happily joining my Granny squares.
I believed you when you said this was worth it because I loathe seeing in my ends. I fought with this and my lack of coordination for about an hour before it clicked (I'm a little slow sometimes). As much as I hated this for that hour, I want to say thank you for teaching it to us. I'm making a larger version of the play blanket for each of my cousins youngest 2 children for their birthday and even though I measured, his turned out much smaller and I didn't want to do it apart and start over so I got creative and decided to add an addition border made of is a few rows of granny clusters and made some simple granny squares to attach to that and decided to make myself learn this to do that. I kept losing the lip I pulled up no matter how long it was, so I finally started putting it over my left index finger to hold it and that did the trick for me. I'm still working it out, but I think it will look nice on the end. If nothing else, it will be unique.

I find making the squares the easiest to do. I'm working on an Afghan now settling on which method I want to use to join them is the hardest part. I do think I will try this method first. I do like the way it looks.

Thank you for this tutorial. I'm looking granny squares now and more lately. The ends are off-putting though. This may very well be my answer. I think so the on and off the hook looping would become routine and not even matter in a large project connotation to the alternative. I also love the skirt. I've been thinking about making sunbathing wearable other than a scarf. Granny squares are such a good way to use scrap yarn and no more than it would take for a skirt, the possibilities are endless. If you had several little girls, oh my,the matching or coordinating options. My cousin has a 13 year old daughter, 4 year old daughter & a 4 yesr old son they try to dress similarly color wise for group holiday pictures. I have so many ideas now.
Genius! Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this joining technique. I used to be so against anything requiring removing the hook. But I completely agree with you, much easier than weaving all those ends! Besides the pain of weaving all the ends, you have the bulk it creates and the potential of ends coming loose over time.
Have you ever tried to add a chain between the treble clusters to prevent the terrible culring of your squares? I can only do one chain between on the side and two at each corner. Have seen some folk do three chain for the corner with no chain on the side and otherrs do only one chain between clusters everywhere and yet others do one chain between the clusters on the side and three in the corner. It all depends on your personal tension while crocheting. There is no hard and fast rule that you have to do it one way or the other.
Hello, I'm very curious is you can use this method with a different "stitch"? Meaning rather than the grannie (3dbl's & so on) can it be used on..umm say for example; hdc's across in each stitch? In my head It would make sense that you could use any stitch as long as you drop the loop and go through a stitch to come back and pick up the loop and finish whatever style stitch your using. I'm just not sure that theory is actually applicable. lol Ugh , I sure hope this makes sense. It's very late & I'm exhausted . Thank you Ophelia X's
I have used this method to join squares made with dc (American) together, and because I didn't want to make the squares a lot bigger, I used sc instead of dc and it has worked beautifully.

I really like this method, I just wish you had shown attaching more than just the two on the second row. I can't get mine to look anything like yours.

Is it convenient to block all squares first and then do the joining?
You can block if you feel the need, if they're not all the same size, l never feel the need to block really, Anja x
