    I used to own the Q and now have the Q2. For autofocus I much prefer to touch the screen to focus and take the shot (you get this by updating the software) ; looks like using an iphone with a leica lens LoL. In manual mode I like Focus Peaking which make you sure of what's in focus while enjoying the lens focus ring.

    Thank you so much for sharing this interesting comparison. Enjoyed every second of the video as always. However there is one thing I've noticed that Q shows more in the "28mm frame" than the 28mm cron. It reminds me about a popular "mythical" online debate about Q's 28mm lens: its FOV actually close to 24mm rather than being a standard Leica 28mm. "Nothing about the quality of lens." but the difference remains quite obvious.

    Hi Matt, I've been on the fence with your presets since buying my Q 2 weeks back, is there a version that works best with the Q or will any set do?
    For what it's worth, I love the Q. I had to sell my XT3 and all my lenses just to fund a used one but I love having just one focal and being challenged to make my photos more interesting. I do miss the 56mm 1.2 but not enough. The Q is extraordinary and the DNG files are so punchy and vibrant straight out of the box!
    Cheers for the videos and info mate.

      Hi Ryan, sorry I missed this. I can't remember if you bought presets or not. I designed them based on the camera RAW files... BUT I do find myself mixing and match afterwards.. ie. Leica M8 preset on the Leica CL files. Yes the Q is a lovely camera!

  • @carlosnunes5717
    @carlosnunes5717 3 роки тому +2

    In my opinion, the price comparison is misleading because the Q includes the lens, that alone is worth more than the setup.

  • @philmtx3fr

    Hi Matt great comparison… for me not simple to say what is the best through the pictures. I think the Q is an excellent package for wide angle (I like 24-28mm) and the CL for longueur lenses (56mm for portraits should be excellent). I don t really see the difference with the m10 gear… so why putting more money and the ease of use of the evo is definitely a plus.

    Hello Matt, been watching lots of your videos and first comment here. Love your videos there!
    It's weird that the Q should show more background blur being a faster lens. But the biggest difference I saw was how the summicron capture the punch of the blurred background - not many lenses can retain the color saturation and contrast of the out of focus area, or was it the M sensors? I think that's the main reason why the summicron render more apparent background blur. Or maybe I'm talking nonsense. 😂

      Hey Casey thanks. Maybe check my Summicron video for more samples. Sometimes the light in one photo can make a photo look better or worse.

    I have a Q that I bought used at a good price. I don't find it difficult to use at all on aperture priority auto; it just does its job and gives me great shots with its amazing Summilux lens. I pretty much use it as a point and shoot. Its only "bug" is the continuous AF which is hopeless. I keep it in AF-S all the time.
    Sadly I do not use the camera enough because I am most comfortable working in the 35mm - 50mm focal range. I find Leica's choice to fit a 28mm onto the Q a little odd, since 35mm is the classic and most common FL for street photographers. Anyway, I shall keep the Q for now as it's a beautiful camera to own and use (sometimes!).

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  4 роки тому

      Thanks, if you shot JPEG you could use the 35/50mm crop option but personally I shoot RAW.

    • @Muchtoobizy
      @Muchtoobizy 4 роки тому +1

      Matt Osborne Agreed: I only shoot RAW as well. Plus, I don’t see the point of buying such an expensive camera and then cropping the image down. Also, a 28mm image cropped, is not the same as an image that originated with a 35mm or 50mm lens. That’s why I haven’t bothered with the Q2.
      Sometimes I will have a Leica Q day and adjust my vision to a 28mm lens. I’m always pleased that I did because the files from that camera/lens combination are superb.
      I believe Leica have had considerable success with the Q series and I am convinced there is a market for two versions of the Q with different FL lenses.

    Mat, all images amazing, beautifully executed. having a beautiful intelligent model and a photographer with your skill, makes more of a difference than choice cameras. The cameras are all capable of beautiful images. The differences were so marginal, particularly watching on You Tube.. in your hands, any Leica film or digital M8, M9 (if you can find one with a replacement sensor) M10, CL, Q1 or Q2, SL2 all beautiful. 1. Leica CL
    2. Leica M10
    3. Leica Q
    Not so much because of the output more so because the compositions done with the CL are most pleasing, then comes the M10 and the Q.
    The difference in contrast is negligible as you can quickly correct that in post.

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  4 роки тому

      Good point regarding contrast. With all 3 cameras being 28mm in theory the compositions should have been similar. The only difference being the M10 was limited to 0.7m vs 0.3m on the CL/Q.

  • @jonhermannsson9231

    Thanks for review - is not AF on the Q slower then that of the Q2 ? like the looks etc of the CL but worry about not being FF - I have many Fuji cameras x-t1 xt2 xt3 x-pro2 - love them but like the xt1 image the best - least amount of grain - the 26mp on the x-t3 just translate into more grain - also have sony a7 iii. and what a difference so so much cleaner image and more bokeh - the Q2 so costly -
    to me the images from Q vs Q2 very similar - Q2 seem a bit sharper and more contrasty but no a huge difference - I love the idea of being able to crop. - I assume only about 12mp or less when cropping on Q. so not really an option
    my biggest fear of the Q is slower AF and slower performance -
    Like the CL but afraid of lots of grain as a F4.2 lens (in FF ) and smaller sense - I love clean image - Fuji to me just to grainy at 3200 and 6400
    The q images nicer. - the CL had nice tones but so little bokeh
    which is better in AF and AFC.

  • @laurencegoldman4639
    @laurencegoldman4639 4 роки тому +2

    My worthless 2 cents: I think the Q has the most pop, surprisingly. If you look at the shots where there’s no BG blur, the Q shots seem to have more spatial separation than even the M10. Must be the lens. Overall, I agree that the M10 has the most appealing look. A really distinctive IQ. I feel the CL shots are FLAT. I know you love the CL, but just sayin’. (As usual your model shots are always high level, so it’s tricky to keep the image quality separated from the photographer skill and style.)

      Thanks Ian, I guess the interchangeable lens Q is the SL! EVF, lenses, FF sensor.. I too would not like the limitations of the fixed lens. The CL is good for a small AF lens camera setup.

    • @belgiboing
      @belgiboing 4 роки тому

      Matt Osborne indeed. I do wish Leica would make an interchangeable lens Q (with a rangefinder form factor and smaller lenses). The SL and it’s autofocus lenses are so big. The ‘dream’ is something like the Olympus Pen-F in a full frame sensor.

      @@belgiboing It will come! Hasselblad have the MF X1D series which is not too oversized so it's only a matter of time for Leica and a small FF camera.

    It comes down to personal taste of course. I like the smoothness and tonality of the CL best (for portraits). Then the M10. The Q had a little too much contrast for my taste, a little harsh. All of these cameras can produce excellent images though when paired with good glass and PP to taste.

      Thanks Takuan, yes agreed the "look" can be partly fixed in PP. Happy to hear you like the CL shots.

    I think M10 and CL delivers the best quality rendering, micro contrast and object separation. I thought Q will do better job, I recently tested Q2 and SL2, and I must say that Q2 images appeared more clinical, darker and less details in shadows. Q’s EVF is not as good as CL or SL + fixed lens is not for me.

      Thanks I have the Q2 video coming soon so you can see if my results are as you expect. Yes I love the CL EVF. (*I tested the SL2 already if you missed that).

    M10 easily had the best shots. The way that camera and lens combination handled the highlight roll off and the out of focus zones are just magical. Creamy skin tones too. CL I liked better than the Q surprisingly. Better highlight roll off and skin tones. However you don’t get the amazing bokeh because of the lens and sensor. I was surprised to see how much the Q reminded me of high end smartphone images. They looked great don’t get me wrong and I’ve seen awesome images from the Q, I’ve just never seen them next to other Leica cameras before.

      Thanks, good overview (I tried not to give my thoughts in the video to avoid swaying peoples own thoughts.Yes not much bokeh with the Q but you can get with the CL easily using other lenses. See my usual work on Flickr etc. Thanks for your thoughts.. yes if I had a decent iPhone 11 or something it might have made a nice 4 way shoot out! :) Maybe next time!

    M10 pictures are clearly the best but i feel that the time and scene, composition plays some game here too. Its impossible to say something just based some images on YT. Had Q. Sold. Bought M10 with some really good lenses and then went back to Q just for its simplicity with AF. M gives you best photos and best shooting experience and poorest wallet too ;) Q is not so much behind with IQ, ist just the focal lenght is not the best for portraits. I really want to try that CL out. Or SL...damn Leica has too many good cameras :D

    Q and M10 were equally sharp and both were sharper than CL. CL and M10 had better contrast and looked “punchier” than Q. The Old Curmudgeon (Q-P and M8 owner) speaks, and, having spoken, moves on.
