You know when it's time to hang it up. Good on you for taking care of yourself and finding purpose. I know you're a smart young lady and have a backup plan in case things don't pan out. I'm fully retired at 39 but it took a lot of grit and discipline. Best of luck on your next adventures. You got this.
Congratulations on this exciting chapter !! Look forward to following the journey! I have a year of savings and would love to work up the courage to quit … great motivation, maybe one day 😊
This is my first time seeing your channel. I didn’t get into tech until my late 30’s and it’s the absolute best industry, trust me. The salary, benefits, and the way you’re treated as an employee are the best I’ve ever experienced. Getting into Microsoft straight out of college is amazing. Good luck to you on your new journey.
That depends, on the level of experience you have, everyone's situation is different, but you will change your mind very quickly when you start to get burnt out, start taking work home, have a bad boss or a colleague you can't get along with, that passion will start to fade away very quickly, you will end up hating your job and your life. It's not important what you do, what is important is who you get to do it with, your work culture and the people you work with, that's what's important, before a job, that's what one should be praying for. I also worked for a big Tech company, and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I don't mean to sound negative, this is just my own personal experience.
This is definitely the time to take these chances. You cannot take such risks with kids and family. I would love to take a year off and catch up on AI!
So proud of you! From the early days of this channel, you have demonstrated exceptional potential to be independent. I've known for a long time that you were cut out to be entrepreneurial. I am careful not to recommend quitting to people who may not have the faculties to make it solo, but you are clearly in possession of everything it takes to chart your own personal course. I think you have made the best decision ever. Please keep us apprized along your journey.
April 1st - No joke - 2 week notice Friday 13th - usually bad luck - last day at MSFT April 14th - Karlly reborn - Day 1 You are living your own story and I dig that! Good luck to you! With ❤, Rikki
Fun fact: as I was listening to this video after having listened your last one about overconsumption or spending, I just came before a big ad for an offer for a MS Surface computer with dream specs (64GB etc.), 500$ off 😅 But I will refrain myself as I don't need that much power 😊
Or to be 50 again. I am in the same place except I'm with Amazon. RSUs just vested on 11/15 & 11/21. I was finally walking away from these stocks but I've worked hard for them and might as well stay the extra month. 3 week notice put in on 11/22 and I have 46 hrs of PTO to be used during that time. I have nothing lined up and financially I don't need anything for a long time, if ever. I will do things and be productive. I'll just be doing something I'm interested in and something my effort benefits me directly.
Nope! I’m 36 been working in the tech industry for years. I quit and I’m headed abroad and when I come back to the states I’ll be building a tiny home 30 minutes outside of Atlanta. It’s not about age, it’s about making a decision; setting yourself up and then going for it.
I can totally understand and relate, I have been in a similar situation, and what I learnt from my own personal experience is that you never chase MONEY and TITLE in a career! Before praying for that dream job, first, pray for a good boss and a good work culture.
good point on burnout. i’m extremely burnt out myself. need to figure something out
I hope you take care of yourself.
