Mauro Giuliani was a guitar virtuoso of the early 19th century, and celebrates the music of Rossini by setting several operatic melodies and then varying them over the course of this "mini-opera." Along with an introduction and a coda (attaca with the final march-like theme), there are 5 aria themes and their accompanying variations. The character of the themes ranges from the melancholic and serene of the beginning sections to boisterous and dramatic of the last movement.
Themes in Giuliani's Rossiniana No. 1:
    Introduction (Andantino)
"Caro, caro ti parlo in petto", Moderato (L'Italienne à Alger)
"Cara, per te quest'anima", Allegro Vivace (Armida)

Red Hot! Rossini is clapping in heaven. So is Maestro Giuliani.
    Glorious.

I've never thought that Angel Romero's recording (album "The Divine Giuliani") of that most tricky piece could be topped! I guess - here it is! Even more ... if you close your eyes an just listen - it seems as if one sees Mauro Giuliani smiling and saying: Hey, Sir ... well done!

Should one performance be the be-all-and-end-all? Should the piece never be performed again after Bream? Mr. Dylla is a great artist. I thank him for this magnificent interpretation.

They are not. Music is not supposed to be "metronomical". He's phrasing and all tempo changes are very well planned to serve a purpose.

@@EmanuelEstradaYarce I understand... it's a bit too much and too haphazard for my personal taste, but it's okay if you like his interpretation of tempi. I agree a piece should rarely if ever be played like a metronome.

@@Johann757 I understand your point. As classical guitar player I have difficulty when I play with my son (21year old) a Symphony Orchestra clarinet player. He is more faithful to the score and tempos. But Marcin is great.
