For the Love of Quail | Georgia Outdoors

On this episode of Georgia Outdoors; Sharon returns to explore the beautiful rolling pine-covered Red Hills of southwest Georgia in search of the bobwhite quail! An adorable 5.5oz bird, the bobwhite once populated 37 states in the tens of millions. However, due to habitat loss, their territory shrunk to extreme levels threatening the bird and its survival. Sharon discovers a national effort to conserve the bird's habitat, focused right here in Georgia, thus saving all the animals in the bobwhite quail's ecosystem.

Inspiring ideas to restore Bobwhite Quail to your land. One of the simplest ways to start is just make sure and leave strips of weeds next to fields. The quail and dove eat the native weed seeds. Also good land management practices to keep the pine forest canopy open in areas for this purpose.

I am someone who likes to see the quail alive and personally maintain healthy LLP forests rather then shoot them, like most. It would be nice to not be looked at differently when I tell people I don’t shoot. I get more enjoyment seeing and hearing a abundant healthy pine savanna.

Up into Michigan. Temps are not the problem. Cover and food during hard snow/ice storms

Love watching the dogs work, and I respect their rights to hunt. But I can't condone, go along with, or approve the shooting of such a beautiful tiny creature. It's just wrong.
