Bryan Garcia originally I am a self taught drummer, have been playing rock and heavy metal for over 35 years. I did study jazz drumset and performance 101 at Eastman School of music. For me reggae is tuff to feel, I have to count it. In rock and metal everything usually gets played on the down beat vs. reggae, its the opposite. Reggae is played on the up beat. At times it can feel unatural to me . I can sit and watch Reggae drummers for hours. There isn't a genre that I can't play, although there is a big difference from being able to play a groove vs. playing a groove well. For me Reggae is tuff to play at times. It takes more concentration to play then the hardcore/Tech Metal I listen too.
Rock/metal is easier because it can be counted in a very linear manor. But to say reggae is harder than jazz and especially felt gospil drumming.... absurd statement. I'm not defaming reggae, it's hard but it's definitively not the hardest.
