    While the engine and emblem are different for '84 Corvettes, the process I follow in this video can be applied to that model year as well (the emblem is not much different).

    I'm one of them that called you out on the color. My 89' Conv. build sheet was the only info I had on the color of my Vette. I said it many times. I love you Vette (-;

    I remember when I had my 91 Corvette and was redoing the valve covers. I pulled the old emblem off and thought "I could either recondition this one or just buy a new one......" and tossed it. Little did I know then...... Gave up on tracking down an original and stuck one of these on there and no one was the wiser when I sold it, haha!

    FYI, as an amateur detailer I have found that 'Ronsonol' lighter fuel is one of the best decal/glue stripper and works on just about all glues used for stickers and decals. Super cheap also!

    Love the Vette dude, but take care of that Cobra. She's beautiful, you got lucky as hell with that one. You inspired me to start looking for a project car. I've always wanted something like that but I usually have my hands full keeping our regular cars running. It's time to go for it though I think. I'm gonna be looking forward to more from you, thanks for the content!

    Hey thanks Ryan, this is very timely advice and much appreciated! I planned on changing my '86 emblem in the spring. I enjoy the "how - to's" very much. You have very interesting and useful info, and I like how its not dragged out. Thanks! Please, if you could possibly show how to remove the steering wheel horn button I'd like to see how it was done. I think it was one of your videos that had it off at one point but didn't see how it was done. I have seen some newer models but not the round one. Anyway, love the channel, especially the corvette videos. Thanks again! PS Weird one if anyone knows... My driver door has taken to locking me out now when it closes about every third time. The electrical seems to look OK but somehow the electric lock engages once in a while without warning but only on a close. A valet door key in the wallet bailed me out when I was outside the car at home while it was running. New problem that started late fall.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the grey color under the emblem is the original color (it was preserved) and the pinkish color over the rest of the valve cover is the discoloration.

    • @ReynoldsRides
      @ReynoldsRides  3 роки тому

      That could be.

    • @mycorvettelife
      @mycorvettelife 3 роки тому +1

      Correct. The valve covers on these turn brown due to age and heat. They are made of Magnesium. Mid-America sells the factory correct paint color in a spray can for restoration.

    I just took mine off a little while ago. No problem getting mine off even though the valve cover was cool. I also replaced my hood emblem & fuel door emblem. The last owner put a fuel door emblem on the hood.

    When shopping for my '93 last year, there was a 40th anniversary ZR-1 for sale locally but the old woman that owned it wanted a bit more than I had to spend and would not entertain offers. Turns out the white 93 coupe I ended up buying had 12k fewer miles than that ZR-1 did and is still in awesome shape!! How much will you take for the '93 brochure? (;

    The Z52 package was an option in 1988. By sight, you can usually tell an 88 Base apart from an 88 Z52 by the wheels (the 88 Z52 had the same wheels as your 89 Vette). In 1989, the Z52 became the Base. So, generally, an 88 Z52 Corvette and an 89 Base Corvette will be identical. The Z51 was available in both years. It was either always or usually a 4+3 manual and I think it had a lower rear end.

    Just an fyi, WD-40 is the best remover of adhesive. Acetone is great buy may damage the surface. I also use alcohol before applying any adhesive or paint. I hope you pushed the emblem friendly on the valve cover. In the video you just put it on and that was it. My son has an 89 in the same color.

    Do you what kind of tool I need to take the wheel covers off my 1989? I had no tools whatsoever for the tire jack, breaker bar, roof removal tool, and also the size of the stock lug nuts? thanks

    I used RTV to glue down the emblem on my 91 and I left the area under it unpainted when I did the covers. I am not sure I would trust 2 sided tape on a hot valve cover.

    • @ReynoldsRides

      It’s on there pretty good. Time will tell though.

    The yellow in the bow tie on the new emblem is defective. I would have returned it and got a different one. I’m in the process of doing the same, except I’m removing the valve covers completely to repaint them. They have turned brown with age. It looks like yours are in the beginning stages of turning brown.

    • @ReynoldsRides
      @ReynoldsRides  3 роки тому

      Hey Chris! You’re right. I should have returned it. At some point I will probably repaint my valve covers as well and will get an emblem that’s better quality.

    The Z52 pkg. must have been a lower option. I noticed on your brochure that the Z52 came with 16' wheels. My conv. had 17' wheels. What are your thoughts?

    Interesting brochures, I have the Z51 option on my 89 and it makes a difference when ordering the odd part. The front air spoiler/air dam is bigger than the base corvette and there are two radiator fans, one in front of the rad that pushes air and one that pulls air in the regular position.

    I bought a 87 Corvette last March with 96,000 miles on it. There is lots of problems with it. I have spent 2k on it replacing stuff. I still luv the car but wondering if I will ever get my money out of it. Just replaced the fuel pump. Are there any how-to books on replacing things like window gaskets and interior components. The elec. door locks dont work. The switch for the fog lights is broke. The switch for passenger seat adjustment back and forth doesnt work. That kind of stuff. Its the 2nd Corvette I ever drove and the first I ever owned. I drove the 1st one at 19. I have loved them and wanted a Corvette for 53 yrs. I finally bought one. Even though I am old. I still wanna work on my own Corvette as much as I can. Is there any help out there for me? ( my Vette is blk)
