His undying rage is linked to Aatrox. I could be wrong but basically Aatrox tried to make Tryn his next vessel and failed. Aatrox enslaves warriors and makes an army by giving people a part of his power as you can see in the back of Aatrox when morgana and Kayle are in early demacia fighting him. He and tryn got into it and aatrox failed, his ult is a side effect of what happened.
