Pietism is an incredibly difficult paradigm to shift. Many think they need to replace private devotion with public action, but that is not the case; we need to convince Christians to ADD the work of the Kingdom to their personal commitment to Christ.
What a beautiful crescendo of Ephesians 1:7-10 at the close of this episode! Ephesians 1:7-10 NASB95 - In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. Oh boy. I'm thinking of the young NFL brother who just retired to go into ministry. Long term, he'll be fine. But short-term, I wonder what's the best choice for his family and his church.
I think a good resource for a biblical understanding of society would be "On christian Charity"by John Winthrop! Though not perfect , history view of functioning mass bay colony was well thought out! The ideas of distributism are in the right direction! Just some thoughts!
I have read Dr Boot's MISSION OF GOD. It has a great message, but it contains so many typos, and grammar and punctuation errors that I would be hesitant to recommend it to anyone else.
Not only are these two streams of progressive theology not shrinking but they are very, very popular in New York City and Philly. I agree tgat they are dangerous. Bit they certainly are about 200 years old in: Quakers, Unitarianism amd in the Episcopal diocese throughout North America.
It is interesting to look back on this discussion now that the midterms are over and the tidal wave failed to materialize. It strikes me that it underscores your discussion perfectly in that we, in our idolatry, wanted the benefits of Christ's rule with out Christ. We try to "win" and save our comfortable way of life by putting our faith and efforts into pagan authorities without having discipled the nation. It doesn't work.
Let me ask you a question, when you go to the Doctor, are you more concerned that they are a fully trained and educated in medicine, or that they’re a converted Christian at the expense of being a poor Doctor? Do you put your faith in the Doctor’s medical education or their Christian conversion?
@@Psalm144.1 Your question is off target in premise on at least two points. First that the two positions are materially equivalent and second that personal conversion is the prime consideration in my analysis. While both political leadership and medical practice have aspects of morality and ethics the medical arena is primarily technical (as is auto mechanics) while the political arena is moral and ethical in its core essence. The issue when choosing a political leader is not so much an issue of their eternal status but of whether they operate on a worldview based on the kingship of Christ or of Satan. Most importantly when the electorate is committed to the rule of Satan their political choices reflect that. As an aside the last three years have, I think, made it clear that a medical profession given over to Satan also has dire consequences.
@@mkshffr4936 The sr pastor of the conservative PCA Church I’m a member of spoke about both of these very subjects and made a great point. At 27:37 in he speaks about the Doctor analogy and then voting in the ballot box. ua-cam.com/users/livet_CLY5hMgUw?feature=share
@@Psalm144.1 Note that even with his rather loose application he made my essential point when he stated that regardless of the eternal state of his mechanic's soul he still wants him to operate honestly (i.e. based on godly principles included in the decalogue). Regardless of common grace, to expect a pagan electorate to select men of good character who operates from a godly perspective is a big ask.
@@mkshffr4936 If my pastor made your point, please explain again how I’m way off target. Where is our disagreement? I don’t see it. Honestly, I’m very confused by your comments. When I voted for Trump, I did so because of his policies which are Biblical like pro-2A, anti-abortion. It wasn’t “faith” in pagans ect. It was faith in political principles which adhere more (not perfectly) to Biblical principles.
Guys, look at this, this guys is showing you all the way. When you first start losing your hair and your temples begin to recede, you just camouflage it by parting it on both sides. Bam!! You just bought yourselves about 2 maybe 5 years of you thinking nobody is noticing that you’re going bald.
How much does God winning/invitation to victory through asymmetrical means, (the cross, first shall be last) is being used to push the "commitment to losing" angle?
Pastor Joel, have you read Peter Leithart’s book “Against Christianity”? It’s a fairly short book that discusses much of the same error (isolating Jesus’ authority or limiting His authority to anything less than “all authority”). Leithart is Reformed, Postmil, Presup, and Theonomic. If you’ve never read that book, I think you’d enjoy it and if you could have him on the podcast I think it’d be a fairly good discussion. Short quote from Against Christianity: “Politically, Modernity is shaped by ‘liberalism’, the political system dedicated to the one proposition that political systems must not be dedicated to one proposition.”
Carrol Quigley defined Liberalism in "Tragedy and Hope" politically speaking the individual is a being that is inherently good while a group of people together is inherently bad. Liberalism is inherently incoherent and the book "Tragedy and Hope" is a great synopsis on how the hegelian dialectic is initiated and deployed from a macro theoretical framework.
@@joshsimpson10 Leithart goes on to say: The dominant story of America and the modern West is the liberal democratic narrative, which sees history as a struggle between the forces of enlightenment and tolerance on the one hand and the forces of ignorance and bigotry on the other. It is a hopeful story of progress toward liberty, autonomy, diversity, and pluralism. It is a comedy of man's liberation from the irrational traditions that have bound him for centuries. As Alasdair MacIntyre has argued," liberal democracy claims to liberate individuals from all tradition, leaving every member of society free to live according to whatever concept of the good he finds pleasing, to live out whatever narratives he can conceive. It is of the essence of democracy's story to have no one story. Richard Rorty is fully in keeping with this viewpoint when he claims that only madmen have a single purpose in life (such as seeking the glory of God), which makes Rorty far less radical than he would like to pretend. In fact, Macintyre continues, liberal democracy does have its own overriding story and its own overarching purpose. Despite its claim to liberate from tradition, liberalism is itself a tradition and has a particular vision of the good society. For liberal order, the good is to preserve individual choice; liberalism's story of tolerance and pluralism in practice prevents other stories from laying claim to the public square. Everyone is free to choose whatever story or concept of existence that will lend meaning to his personal life, but the rub comes when you ask, "What if my concept of existence requires that the whole society be conformed to my concept of existence?" Clearly, on liberal principles, no one has the right to adopt that concept of existence.
