      You are not dizzy, because your internal gyroscope in your ears is used to this spin. You would get dizzy if you would for example set foot on earth 4 bn years ago, as then the earth was going with 4 time the speed it has now. but even there you would get used to it after a while. They plan to make new stations rotate with 2-5 rotations per hour - that's enough to give you 1G gravity at the outside of the station when the station has a width of 200m but still wouldn't make you dizzy :D

  • @magnetomage

    he really does think that CGI per hour joke is just the funniest thing ever. also, the there is no 'WiFI' as such on the ISS, its just radio transmissions; they use an entire network of ground based radio stations to relay communication to and from the station.

    • @igooog
      @igooog Рік тому

      "WiFi" is just radio when you get down to it

    • @acmenipponair
      @acmenipponair Рік тому

      Yes, and internet is just carried on some of the wavelengths they broadcast. By the way, they could watch TV or use the internet if they would be stationary, as the communication satellites and also Starlink are higher up than the ISS, but for that they would have to be in a geostatic orbit, so that they wouldn't have to change the direction of the satellite dish all the time. That's why they refer to UKW bandwidths, where they only need a long steel frame as an antenna.
      @igooog: Everything is "radio", radio (not radio broadcasting) is just the usage of the radio waves. WiFi is running on waves around 2.4 Ghz. that's literally the middle between your UKW radio with 100 Mhz and the big satellite dish with 12 Ghz in wavelength.

    "There is no up in space" is absolutely a thing in space travel (called spatial disorientation) which happens when you don't have a clear reference point for your brain to orient to because you're stuck inside a tincan with no readily accessible windows. This is why on several surfaces of the inside of the ISS, there are written and color coded markings that help orient you correctly.
    Contrary to this, there is an "up" direction in space. Draw a line starting from the middle of whatever body you are orbiting to your current orbital position, the direction that line is going to is to be considered "up." (That is, the direction opposite to where you are being pulled by gravity, AKA "radial-out")
    This fuckin' guy gave me an aneurysm, so thanks for that Pippa.

    The sense of knowing up and down is called Proprioception. It also allows up know how much force to use when walking, pulling something, etc. A weird case of loss of proprioception after a viral infection left the person unable to even control their voice levels.
    Additionally, the issue with blood flow to the brain vs feet in outer space isn't the same as on earth. In fact, the lack of gravity means there is more blood pressure in the head and increases the risk of stroke from having too much blood pressure in the brain's smaller blood vessels. In comparison, being upside down on earth could kill you by having too much blood in the brain in a similar way. Though it seems that healthy astronauts have a robust system that learns to tone down how much blood to let to the brain.

    You can tell it’s a laugh track because it won’t shut up even when he’s not even trying to tell a joke. Which also means they’re using the laugh track wrong

    The car has moving parts interacting with each other. The iss is just at that speed already and doesn't have an engine constanly running. I'm sure the different engines it uses to course correct get old and get changed frequently.

    HF frequencies can connect you to the other side of the world if the atmosphere allows it but it does really need the atmosphere to repeat the signal properly.
    And it allows you connect you to an orbiting station unless heavy weather is interfering. This all just sounds like Cope as in Why isn't Aus wearing a safety strap so they don't fall off the planet.

    The best part of the ISS is that orbiting is actually a perpetual fall. It's trying to go towards the earth but because of how they set up its initial velocity it can't, so it keeps going around the earth.

    also his upside down comment fucking kills me; first he has a kink for being upside down. Second, if you don't fucking have spatial awareness, you *don't* know if you're upside down or your positional orientation all of the time. There have been several plane crashes where pilots have become disoriented. The common one is called a somatogravic illusion.
    Atlas Air Flight 3591 crashed in Houston in 2019 due to spatial disorientation (and really unqualified pilots). The pilot accidentally hit the go around button, which caused the plane to accelerate and slightly pitch up. However, he thought it pitched up to an angle that was going to cause the plane to stall quickly (which it wasn't) and so he pushed the noise down which caused the plane to crash and be obliterated.
    Point is, our fucking inner ear means you actually can't always tell if you're accelerating/decelerating/up/down/etc. Shit like this has killed hundreds of people in plane crashes.

    Y'know, the whole point of a laugh track is for it to be used after the punchline, that's IF the punchline is done right. Spamming the laugh tracks doesn't make the jokes nor the punchline itself funnier. But, then again, not a single joke this feller told was remotely funny to begin with. Pippa's reactions made it easier to watch though! Thank you Pippa!
