Ironically, the hair piece included for the driver minifigure of this set is way more Ayrton Senna than the one the actual Ayrton Senna minifigure got in the big McLaren MP4/4 set.
In the defence of the hair in the MP4/4 set, if you look at photos of Senna during the 1988 season, Ron Dennis and McLaren had clearly made him have a much shorter haircut as part of his more "professional" image. (Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso also had to do the same thing when they joined McLaren in 2007) It's only by 1989 when Senna and Prost fell out with each other that Ron Dennis clearly gave up on this approach and Senna is back to having the more flowing mane that he is remembered for. So for that one season, the hairpiece was fairly accurate, but I agree that the Luke Skywalker hair gives off more of a Senna vibe.
I don't think I would ever ask you to not comment on an issue. Your opinion as a reviewer who paid for these items is valued. You praised the build experience and parts usage and in fairness also pointed out quality issues. Great review.
Jang I've been watching you since 2014, the little song in the background is soothing to me on Soo many levels. Anyway, I love the Speed Champions line because it's the only line I can afford lol. Asking for better quality while prices increase isn't too much too ask for. I remember when $100 would build you a Lego set you could actually interact with. Now it's all midiscale for $100 😢😢. Thank you brother for what you do and I'll keep rockin w you till the Lego wheels fall off!
"Red Bull must not want to have a LEGO set, right?!" ... Yeah, sadly have to agree with you there Jang. Awesome review - sometimes I wait for your review, even for the sets I'm already 100% going to buy, just to make me want them even more! Thanks for being part of the LEGO world, and staying independent! Appreciate you man! 🦾 🖤💙💜💙🖤
On the note of wanting cars from more teams like Red Bull, I think toy companies tend to avoid licensing from energy drinks. Hot Wheels has done a couple replicas of cars that should have Monster logos on them that are swapped out for other generic designs instead that still fill the same visual space
As a McLaren fan I had to get this the day it came out and I was glad I did. For the size and price it’s a great set for collectors or F1 fans as well as a great toy for the younger Lego and F1 fans.
What a set! I feel like it strikes a good ballance between stickers and prints. Good detail but you can still use the unstickered parts for moc making which is important! Glad we finally got slicks
I bought this and the Senna set and even though this is smaller, I like this even more - it truly is a thing of beauty. The designers of both sets, though, did amazing jobs. Now if we can, as you point out, just get quality control to live up to the hefty prices we pay for these sets, that would be much appreciated. Happy to see you gushing about this set too. While I am not a minifig-centered person, I really do wish the minifig was better; very bland, and even the head is quite basic. Glad they continue to put hair in sets where they include helmets!
Love this set. I took some silver tape, custom chrome parts, and some scissors to the stickers to convert it to the chrome livery from Silverstone last year, and it just makes it pop even more!
It’s absolutely brilliant. Love it. It’s probs my new favourite speed champions set. I thought the Mercedes F1 car from a few years ago was amazing (it still is) but this raises things even further. Can’t wait for the Aston Martin one coming later in the year. Would love more F1 cars in this scale. I know we’ve had a ton of Ferraris, but please give us an 8 stud wide speed champions F1 car please.
I really really really hope they still have their Ferrari license and do a Ferrari next year (I’m actually a little surprised they’re doing Aston Martin first). Also a 1980/90s Icons scale Ferrari please
i think for a future video you could compare this and the Mercedes f1 car from the two car pack a few years prior i believe. or especially if more f1 cars come out soon, or even comparisons with the technic f1 cars.
There's something wrong going on with the Chrome Logo, there's a white patch around the blue center that just shouldn't be there. Idk if they didn't align colors properly (there is white in the logo too, a small outline around the blue circle) or if they modified it to not get caught in licenses with Google.
Lego should absolutely make a subseries and call it "Speed Champions: F1".. or something. would be good to still get the 'regular' cars along with F1, i feel it would sell very well among older audiences too. Especially for those who want a more dynamic and realistic looking set and won't mind all the stickers. It would also mean they could do larger Speed Champions sets like they used to, including 2-3 cars and pit crew etc. while keeping the road car sets individual as they are now ($30 is more than enough for one car)
Got this car last week, and the build is just fantastic (stickers notwithstanding, that orange triangle sticker in front of the halo was nerve wracking to line up). The print on the T-cam is really really poor though. It should be BRIGHT fluorescent yellow, but ends up almost off-white.
The tyre difference isn't so agregious with this one as compared to the MP4/4, just due to the differential in tyre sizes between the modern MCL60 and Senna's classic.
This is the first kit i’ve bought since i was a kid (im 42). Forgot how relaxing they are. Mclaren (Lando) is my fav team, so i had to grab it. Super impressed.
I'm not a big fan of the color scheme here, but I can tell this F1 car is really well done. I love all the logos on there. And yep, some can have a lot reuse. And yes, LEGO still needs to better on prints!
On the old one the size of the wheels looks pretty good even though the back wheel is still not wide enough and slicks are better now than the old wet tires.
I don’t think we will get a red bull one: the Audi S1’s real life car is sponsored by Monster which is missing from the Lego set. I think it’s to do with energy drinks and Lego, first and foremost, being a company targeted at children and energy drinks being massively unhealthy. I suppose they could get a lot of flack for seemingly promoting it to children so the safer option is to avoid the angry parents crowd and not go there.
Always good to hear you talk about cars. You are so happy and into it. The print colors bother me too. The sticker sheet is daunting to me. But this car is not something I would buy anyway. You say that it is appropriate and I believe you. Those black spoon usage is so cool. As always great informative video. Thank you. Fun to watch reviews for products even when it is not a lego item I am not going to buy. See you on twitch.😊
5:26 I had it it's completely destroyed and in my pieces now but my grandfather gave it for my bday and it was so much fun! Am planning to get this new one and the difference was surprised!!
I just recently started to watch F1 and lego comes out with this set, it was the best surprise I've gotten in a while. Totally agree with Jang here, cultural man at its best.
I believe the reason there is no Red Bull cars is due to the fact that Lego do not wish to be associated with an energy drink which can be seen as unhealthy for children. Just a theory
Wheels on modern F1 cars do look proportionally small so from side angles this set looks reasonably accurate. They just need a bit more sidewall because modern Lego tires are too low profile. However, the biggest letdown is tire width. Lego really needs to design some 1.5x or double-wide tires. Other than that, the set looks fantastic. I'm usually not interested in open-wheel race cars, but I'm definitely getting this one.
The various slopes and notched corner pieces are what really makes the difference in being able to design something like this. I remember when I was young there was a single slope piece I had that wasn't just a straight slope 4x2 or 6x2.
I'd love a comparison to some of the Ferrari F1 racecars from the 2005-2006 Lego Racers era. I had all of those when I was a kid, what with being a massive fan of Schumi and Barrichello, but the sets themselves were a little more encumbered by the pullback motors and things, even though I remember the shaping being a little bit better in places than that 6-wide one you showed here.
Since you were wondering why RB doesnt have a Lego model, RedBull recently released a RB19 brick model in partnership with Rastar Maybe you could check it out
If we go crazy, then you could built this F1 Car as a base for other Teams. I did it with Ferrari Red Bull and Aston Martin Honda (2026) and it came amazing
I'd weirdly forgotten this was Lego until when turning it round I saw the transparent red 1x1 tile on the back. Amazing how far they've come. As to Red Bull, is it possible that it's Lego who won't touch them? "Promoting" an energy drink doesn't seem a good thing for a manufacturer of children's toys.
The EU prices are not as terrible as you might think, I heard it mentioned a couple times that EU prices seem worse than US. A big difference between the EU and the US prices is that the EU prices are with taxes included, which is roughly 20% varying per country. If I recall correctly prices listed in the US are without taxes and they get added during checkout. So €27 easily becomes just a bit over €20 without tax.
I've already bought 2 of this McLaren racer in a year where I am cutting back on Lego purchases by 90%. That's how cool and well built it is! Maybe one of the best under $30 sets currently in Lego's 2024 lineup. Only odd bit for me is those sloped wedge pieces behind where the driver sits. One side is printed, but then the instructions have you place a sticker on the same piece? Weird. Lego should have fully printed the piece.
I think the rights for the sponsors go through McLaren, I'm sure McLaren has as part of their deal with the sponsors that they are alowed to use their branding for merch, models and such, which would cover this aswell
The comparison with the older F1 car wasn't that much off. I recently watched a video from RB with their first and latest car side by side and the older one looked almost scaled down compared to the RB20
Thank you for reviewing this one, some fantastic techniques and pieces here! Looks great. The print on the figure looks genuinely lame and leaves lots to be designed, but maybe the figure budget has been spent elsewhere within the set to good effect. Hard to judge.
Maybe the fact Red Bull isn't just an F1 team but an energy drink is the reason Lego hasn't made a set of their cars. Some countries don't allow such drinks to be marketed to children. Maybe Lego follows that standard?
While I'm not particularly happy about this price bump, I will say I'm happy Lego didn't due it's typically "It has to be multiples of $5" type of increases that happened, I mean they went from $14.99 to $19.99 (and that was the move to 8 stud wide so arguably justified) then to $24.99 which is a 25% increase (inflation hasn't been that bad!) and now $26.99 at least feels like "ok inflation increase" of price or something.
Great video as always. Just my own personal opinion but this is the first run of speed champions for March that I'm not really hyped for any of them still gonna get them just not excited by any of them
The wheels are not going to be different because from a building perspective for a 9+ set, it’s better if all wheels are the same. As a child is building and are looking for the wheel pieces, the perceptable difference of say 3mm width when the instructions just say ‘put wheels on’ is just not there. Therefore keeping all wheels the same is the better option. Yes, the designer knows what the wheels actually are like but it needs to be built by a child and one who may not be an ultra car buff.

I know that the minifigures are not the main focus of these sets, it's the cars themselves which again look fantastic and amazing here as usual. Funnily enough, the size difference is fairly accurate to that IRL of a modern hybrid to an old V8/v10 era car.
that is what i am saying definitly going to fit with my older type F1 speed champions cars!
So much work has been done since the last f1 speed champions, I hope they keep up producing more beautiful f1 cars!
Hopefully we get a MP4/4 to go along with the Senna minifigure from the Icons set
Ironically, the hair piece included for the driver minifigure of this set is way more Ayrton Senna than the one the actual Ayrton Senna minifigure got in the big McLaren MP4/4 set.

I was thinking the very same thing!
We need the whole grid. Not just McLaren :)

the 2016 ferrari size difference is very accurate on how ridiculously big f1 cars have gotten, it was the last year of the sub 2 meter width
Love the Spoons - Totally dialed in - Comparing older sets - like 8bit to HD
Jang I've been watching you since 2014, the little song in the background is soothing to me on Soo many levels. Anyway, I love the Speed Champions line because it's the only line I can afford lol. Speed Champions F1 cars are such a delight man. Much better than their representation in other product lines by LEGO imo.
On the note of wanting cars from more teams like Red Bull, I think toy companies tend to avoid licensing from energy drinks. Only review I can trust to give me an unbiased accurate opinion! Keep it up💪🏻
Always enjoy these Lego car reviews. You are definitely the most genuine and fair with these.
I love how tyres with the new cover can be piled up together, so you can recreate the pit lane environment with the car without tyres
Those google chrome caps could be used as one of those Simon says toys
I don't really have any interest in cars, but this set is one I might actually consider buying. Just *look at it*.
This one really is the standout of the wave. This looks better than some of the biggest F1s that they have ever done.
Love this set. I took some silver tape, custom chrome parts, and some scissors to the stickers to convert it to the chrome livery from Silverstone last year, and it just makes it pop even more!

Picked this up yesterday for all the new pieces. Used the new 1x4 notched slopes on my Twin Mill moc. Happy with it!
I'm not a big fan of the color scheme here, but I can tell this F1 car is really well done. I love all the logos on there. And yep, some can have a lot reuse.
And yes, LEGO still needs to better on prints!
Great review and I really appreciate it when you call out LEGO’s quality issues.
I was on the fence about this one but you’ve helped me make up my mind - thank you Jang :)
We got Lego Chrome, before GTA VI💀
Love this set! Keep it up Jang!! Thanks for your videos!
The wheels are closer to scale on the old one and it makes a big difference.
On the old one the size of the wheels looks pretty good even though the back wheel is still not wide enough and slicks are better now than the old wet tires.
Your voice is calming, ty for showing the set
Been watching you since the URC days good to see you still posting.

The wheel inserts look amazing! Hopefully Ferrari is next!!
The Red Bull car can be found on The Block Zone, and is officially licensed. Just ordered it and hope it compares nicely.
Woahhh that’s sick!
Would love to see this next to the Mercedes F1 Speed Champions model.
That dewalt sticker will be loved by the Lego nascar moc builders
I got to see an f1 Grand Prix in person for the first time over spring break then I see this, looks great
The tyre width is a definite thing, changes the look with a wider width on the rears.
I believe the reason there is no Red Bull cars is due to the fact that Lego do not wish to be associated with an energy drink which can be seen as unhealthy for children. Just a theory
Even with the wheels being too small, I do enjoy the F1 Speed Champions cars! Super happy with the change to 8 wide overall!
Yes, best looking formula 1 in a such size from Lego. This was the first model I bought this season. Such a beauty and accurate... 😊
I bought this one and it looks awesome next to the Mercedes F1 from the Mercedes set
Wheels on modern F1 cars do look proportionally small so from side angles this set looks reasonably accurate. They just need a bit more sidewall because modern Lego tires are too low profile. However, the biggest letdown is tire width. Lego really needs to design some 1.5x or double-wide tires.

Is that 1x2 printed black tile supposed to be yellow in the middle? If so, the print quality is abysmal.
i have 2 speed champions so far, this one and the new ford mustang, i'm not planning to collect as many as i can but i definitely want more.
Since you were wondering why RB doesnt have a Lego model, RedBull recently released a RB19 brick model in partnership with Rastar
Maybe you could check it out
It is true that the new F1 car in real life is much larger than the old F1 car.
If we go crazy, then you could built this F1 Car as a base for other Teams.
I did it with
Ferrari
Red Bull
and Aston Martin Honda (2026)
and it came amazing
I'd weirdly forgotten this was Lego until when turning it round I saw the transparent red 1x1 tile on the back. Amazing how far they've come.
As to Red Bull, is it possible that it's Lego who won't touch them? "Promoting" an energy drink doesn't seem a good thing for a manufacturer of children's toys.
It would have been interesting to compare this F1 car to the really old Ferrari F1 Lego series.
The EU prices are not as terrible as you might think, I heard it mentioned a couple times that EU prices seem worse than US. I wish the Senna Honda was speed champions then you could play with it and recreate the moments when F1 was exhilarating.

I was upset that they didn’t put an actual driver in it, but based on the childish face in the helmet, my head cannon is it’s Oscar Piastri 😂
Now all we need is redbull, williams, ferrari, and saudi, + alpine (redbull or ferrari would be cool)
This time I am glad they use so much stickers because I wouldn't use most of them. Like "chrome" which totally sucks.
I bought this for my Dad's birthday, the day this came out
would be nice to get some of the classic mclarens as part of the range.
Keep up the good work calling out Lego on their quality issues. It is especially bad when they frequently cover up the problem with false advertising.
We need to get Max Verstappen’s Red Bull F1 car
Thanks for another great review
Was waiting for this!
Looks so very cool
Maybe the fact Red Bull isn't just an F1 team but an energy drink is the reason Lego hasn't made a set of their cars. Some countries don't allow such drinks to be marketed to children. Maybe Lego follows that standard?
While I'm not particularly happy about this price bump, I will say I'm happy Lego didn't due it's typically "It has to be multiples of $5" type of increases that happened, I mean they went from $14.99 to $19.99 (and that was the move to 8 stud wide so arguably justified) then to $24.99 which is a 25% increase (inflation hasn't been that bad!) and now $26.99 at least feels like "ok inflation increase" of price or something.
im waiting for a 6 stud wide alternative build to come out before i buy it. well if, not sure it it would work
Great video as always. Just my own personal opinion but this is the first run of speed champions for March that I'm not really hyped for any of them still gonna get them just not excited by any of them
Looks amazing
The wheels are not going to be different because from a building perspective for a 9+ set, it’s better if all wheels are the same. As a child is building and are looking for the wheel pieces, the perceptable difference of say 3mm width when the instructions just say ‘put wheels on’ is just not there. Therefore keeping all wheels the same is the better option. Yes, the designer knows what the wheels actually are like but it needs to be built by a child and one who may not be an ultra car buff.
Why Lego can’t make an orange brick with a black print?
The orange printing is a good example of why stickers can sometimes be better than prints.
Lego pricing getting ridiculous. It’s a bunch of plastic geezuz they are a greedy company. Then they go cheap with a ton of stickers ruining the model. Hard pass.
For a few seconds i didnt realize this was lego
Not at all surprised there's never been, and probably never will be, a Lego Red Bull car - I'd imagine Lego wouldn't want to go anywhere near an energy drinks company. And after all the recent shenanigans and allegations....yeah, that's the final nail in the coffin for any such partnership. I'm more surprised we haven't seen a more recent Ferrari than the one shown at 5:00. I might be wrong on this, but isn't there a rumour that there might be an Aston Martin one coming along soon, potentially including a Safety Car as a double pack? That'd be great to get alongside this.
To be fair….the real car has lots of stickers also …so one could argue that the stickers are necessary for realism. :^)
I think if anything Lego wouldn't want to be selling toys with Red Bull branding on it, not the other way around.
I know that the minifigures are not the main focus of these sets, it's the cars themselves which again look fantastic and amazing here as usual. But, again even as someone who isn't that into minifigures, that has got to be the most incredibly bland minifigure we've probably got in this theme for a long time, and yet still doesn't look like it's been done well!
I'm fine with the stickers here, it's what you have to expect but it's far less extreme than the BMWs though as there's not as much lining things up to do here by comparison!
What is that 1 by 2 tile piece on top of the car supposed to represent?
The onboard camera
Vroom vroom
It's a really cool set but the helmet popping on top of the halo is very off putting for me
If you remove the legs and put the torso on a couple plates instead, the helmets sit right where they should. Same with the W12.
I normally like the Speed Champs figures. This one is really bad. There is no excuse for that 'orange' and the figure is really meh.
