Shane, you're one of THE best reviewer/demo on yt. You leave nothing out. For example, you talk about the neck profile beyond just "C" like most folks and actually compare to a mim, which most of us can use as a reference when listening to your descriptions. Great vid!
Ronnie, thanks so much man. I am glad that it's helpful. :-)
Agreed! He is also very genuine and does a lot to hold up his integrity which a lot of UA-cam reviewers don't do.
Thanks Dylan. :-)
There's something about the white finish on the American models it looks more aged or almost blonde white. I think that's the best American Strat below the modern customs. I've heard the pick ups against the vintage 1961 and it's a big differences, Prefer the original.@@intheblues
I love what Fender has done with American Original series. They've incorporated a lot of the design features that some of the smaller boutique builders are using (and that lots of players seem to dig) without straying too far from the "vintage" mindset and they've slapped a competitive price on them.
Just ordered mine in sunburst.....so excited. Fruciante, JM, Rory, SRV, Hendrix mojo I hope will be included
Just ordered one in sunburst as well. Can't wait!
all those dudes were into 50s strats too lol
How do you like it? Trying to pick between this and a pro ii
There is so much to be said about vintage correct regarding pups .I always look for non-reveresed wound pups for strats. The difference is big, especially in the top end..This whole noiseless movement has taken the soul from the strat in my opinion.
So I'm happy to hear you notice and acknowledge the improved sound when they are wired vintage accurately ..The fat neck of course adds to the sound, the whole package is great for any strat player..In my view so much better sounding than the sterile new Performer or Elite models..The Elite strats are just awful with those mystic paint schemes..Our iconic strats are changing, not in a good way either..Then this review comes along..Great job Shane..The strat sounds delicious in all positions clean & dirty.
Agreed about the noiseless
the ultras are a disaster as well....the new american pro 2 seems to have v mods....hmnnnnn
also David.....if you want the real deal you just have to go custom shop...ive owned one and played dozens THE REAL DEAL so pure so Fender
Hey Chris
The newness of thing or Pro II will wear thin soon. As soon as something else new comes along.. The Pro II isnt bad guitar but the V-Mod pups sound okay. We've been down this road before with these pups.
The guitar sounds great when its just left alone ..The pups are left as they should be ...Great tone shane..
@@davideyskens8720 thanks for the advice! so do you recommend the american original? I agree with all the offerings from fender recently....sound"modern" compressed..noiseless blah blah
Love the antique white with minty pickguard
This is my favorite sound I have ever heard on this channel. I love the tone you’re getting out of this strat. That intro is reminiscent of David Gilmore.
These are great guitars totally gig ready and not actually that expensive really (1.5k ish).
I sold an AM std and a Les Paul and picked up one of these used for 900.
Super happy with it!
wozzlepop good lord if I could find one used for that price I’d be all over it
I want one but I need it for harder rock and metal. My les paul is getting to be a pain in the ass to keep in tune and its contributing to my back problems I think.
Just what I'm looking for in a Stratocaster. The colour, the rosewood fretboard, and that Stratocaster sound just does it for me; just like your Mexican Strat.
I have this in candy apple red. I love it!! I put a tortoise shell pickgaurd on it and it looks radical now. Such a great guitar high quality feel and sound.
Kev G. How is the neck? I heard its a bit chunky
It is a bit chunky, but I like it. @@brentg80
@@kevgh3869 I also have this Strat. Candy Apple Red
@@kevgh3869 I'm picking up a Candy Apple Red one Tuesday.. Red's my color.
My dad is getting one for me as a present. (Also lefty) Best. gift. ever. I prefer the fingerboard tone and colour over the 50s one but I just love the 50s neck so much... still getting this one tho.
Not sure if you were inspired by the guitar, but this is some of the best and most soulful playing I’ve heard on the channel
I also particularly like this transition logo (vintage correct) over the one on the mim's.
The MIM Classic Series uses the standard spaghetti logo from the 50's and early 60's, (which is fine by me, I have the 60's Lacquer). However, what I don't like is the clear coat is on top of the decal instead of the decal being on top of the clear coat like on real vintage and Reissues. I know it's minor, but it bugs me lol
Just bought the 60s lefty. Thanks for this great demo mate!
Holy mother of awesome! You’re playing was just off the charts. And this guitar sounds soooo good too. Thanks!
You're tone on the intro solo is absolutely insane !
I finally had to buy one..I havent owned an american strat since my last custom shop 68...This strat reminds me of what a quality strat sounds & plays like.....Its got that 60s vibe tone. The top end is that chimney clean w/sizzle overdriven.
The guitar" blooms" it's got a blooming character to it, The big fat tones reflect the fat neck and bigger frets..The whole guitar sounds big!! Adjusting to bigger frets & neck was easy after I tweaked the set up to suit my needs..
The weight is the biggest con..Fender needs to monitor the weight more with this gorgeous strats...8lbs or less, this weighs close 9.5lbs...Even the sunburst is orginal, I havent seen this burst before..I'm liking it..
Just great instrument. Clicks all strat boxes..
I've noticed a massive spread / range in prices for this model of guitar. After reading your post I think it might be related to weight. For this type of coin I'd want 7.5lb or less.
Sounds great! You could definitely hear the lack of hum cancelling :) Do you prefer your MIM over this one?
I love the color and set up ... very vintage looking without the relic’ing (a.k.a scraping, scratching and beating the crap out of any part that doesn’t affect tone) 😉 Sounds really good too!
So..I was buying the red one until I watched your video. I never knew about the pickup winding and it not canceling hum on this model. Learned something new! Thanks!
I'll be going with either the American Professional or the new Ultra.
Great demo video.
Sounded great Shane! I have a tobacco sunburst ‘62 Reissue I bought in the early ‘90s and it has a very thin neck.
to watch this in 4k is just eye-gasmic and ear-gasmic
Thanks Charles! 😀👍
I like both Neck-Middle and Bridge-Middle pickup sounds, while its play for clean
I’ve got this and a CS Stratocaster and it’s unbelievably close in quality and feel. I much, much prefer the 9.5 radius.
When I tried one I found it a bit too mellow sounding for a main (only) Stratocaster. I went with the Professional instead, but I'm sure these 60s are awesome if you are looking for a warm sounding Strat that still has all the spank!
After listening to you. I think the 50s suited you better too. Great video. Thanks
I really like the off white with the mint pickguard, and rosewood fingerboard. On Strats, I think it looks even better when you put on black knobs, tips, and pickup covers.
Is that particular guitar the "olympic white" one?
Yes
I like the off white pickup cover/knobs. Interesting sound with the none reverse middle pickup - don't mind it either.
Nice presentation between the 50 and 60's strats. You kept a good continuity for comparison sake. I'm going to watch the 50's again, love them both, but I'm partial to the 50's.
All I need: this guitar and this playing!
for me this are the best sounding strats outside the custom shop, absolutely fantastic. the only thing I am personally not happy about is that there are not the correct vintage specs for the fretboard and the frets. but therefore they play a little more easily what is cool. great video again Shane.
Michael Dörrenbächer There not designed to be....
Read the sales pitch on the fender site, it explains all.
Vintage SPECIFIC are available....🙄
Wait til you try one in person, the pickups are allover the place, bridge pickup is bright as hell, the middle pickup by itself has nearly 0 treble and the neck is a little brighter but not as bright as the bridge, "use the ton knob?" You can't because the bridge and middle are wired together so turning down the bridge brightness means the middle becomes even muddier making it almost unusable, I suggest if you want to buy this guitar to swap out the pickups for something for even across the board. Other than that, amazing guitar
I love how the strat pickup hum starts the video. While the strat has a delicious and delicate tone, i think it’s funny how one of the most iconic guitars in history buzzes so loud that it ruins a demo recording
Try the '69 American Original Thinline Tele. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I'm sold! Amazing demo, Shane.
Damn, another guitar to the wanted list... Also, a bit of ECs Bad Love.. what a great tune.
Does this guitar sound a little dark and not that resonant and chimy ? I just received my 60s strat and it sounds really dark and weak compared to my other strat. Could there be a problem with the guitar ?
Shane I want to ask you since you have reviewed both. Between the American original 60s stratocaster and the American original 50s stratocaster which would be better for a tone like john frusciante's?
I get a feeling you really like that guitar, Shane?! Sounds great!
Great Job as usual Shane... Always enjoy your videos.. Your chops have always been good as well... but on this one you seem to have gone up a few notches pretty solidly.. keep up the good work... Oh FYI... I found Jerry's Lefty Guitars a few years back & got to visit ... after making a set time to meet with Jerry, Just him & myself & all these gorgeous Lefties... O M G.... Bought a Peerless Electra ... Jerry was great to deal with... What a Lefty treat... like you .... Thanks again Shane.. !
Awesome Shane, just remember your videos do sell gear because I may have to get one of these.
I think you'd be pretty happy with this guitar mate. :-) Don't forget to try the 50's one too it's a monster.
Yeah picked one up 2 weeks ago the 60s change the pots and 5 way switch yeah pretty awesome... I'm laughing yeah I saw Shane playing one classic Vibes video that's what I got.
Those greybottoms sound so nice, any problems with magnet-height ?
The 60 cycle hum really strong here, thanks for that. Convinced me to go for a Clapton instead
That Strat looks good on you, Shane... Especially when you’re playing Clapton!
BEST REVIEW OF THE NEW 60`s STRAT !!!! GREETINGS FROM GERMANY !!!!
I love it I have a three tone 60s
I ordered mine a couple days ago. Can't wait!! 🙌
How do you like it compared to a pro ii strat? Trying to make up my mind
Another nice review. Sounding good as always.
Prefer the Original 50's but that's just me. It seemed to have some more snap to it.
that's the maple fingerboard
Oh man I really need one of these strats in my life
Hey Shane. Have you ever taken a right-handed guitar and strung it backwards to make it left?
love the look of it !! and your blues bit in the opening just screams parts of hendrix's blues stuff !! nice job !! :)
I love the 70's large headstock
great great tones! Good stuff mate!
Nice looking Strat Shane although I personally would have preferred to have heard the Strat straight into the amp rather than your favorite pedals.
I did that in the video too mate there's a full clean test in the video too.
I must have got distracted, Ill go back and re watch it, cheers Shane.
Sick playing!
Great looking guitar
Great playing! Great sounding gear!
Nice playing in the intro
Shane- the tune at 1:45 is very tasty, and your tone is great! Very nice!
Hello my friend, is it that hard to bend and play leads whit vintage frets as people say? Thanks¡¡
AWESOME GUITAR! LOVE IT!
Shane, sounds and looks great!! I can smell that new guitar smell all the way over here in the United States!
Can you adjust the tone on the bridge pickup?
Is the bridge wired to the tone?
Is the rosewood laminate fretboard the same kind of fretboard used on the original 60’s Strat?
Trying to decide between one of these 60’s models or an American pro ii. Love the nitro finish. But mostly want to go off of playability and sound. Anybody have opinions?
Both are Great , but I would rather have 60’s
Pro II necks can get too thin. They leave the nut cut FAR too high.
Hey Shane Great Stuff, As Always, Mate !!!!!!!.... Which of the Fender Strat Line, would you say, is equivalent to a G&L Legacy Tribute Strat ??? Also, What's that Jazzy Riff you like to play, @ 9:12 mark, when you go clean ???? I Love That Riff !!
You know whats weird I like this fender 60s better then the fender 50s but I like the squier 50s more then the squier 60s crazy right lol
Not weird at all. I think the 50's version of the Original sounds more 60's an the 50's version sounds more 60's like. The Classic vibe 50's use Alnico 3 pickups and the 60's use Alnico 5's. The Original Series Fenders 50's version uses 59 Strat design pickups which are Alnico 5 [not three like we find on the Classic Vibe 50's which is more like the classic 50's sound].
Are you sure about not having hum canceling positions (2+4)? The guy in my local music stor told me the opposite.
I have exactly the same, in lefty. That smell...
What u using as a delay? Sounds good. Oh, I see the Tsakalis AudioWorks Tilay. Nevermind.
Wish I'd have gotten one of these when I had the chance. It comes quite close in specs to a real 60s strat. I have the lefty original 50s one which sounds really good, but I prefer the 60s neck profile which is a bit less girthy overall. Most early 60s strats had a taper starting quite thin, while mid 60s started a bit fatter and slightly bigger taper. I am guessing this one is more like a mid 60s neck profile (as a guideline fender uses nowadays, in reality they were a bit all over the place in those days, due to shaping by hand).
My ideal strat would be like this one, but with a 7.25"-9.50" radius and a '65 C shape, in sonic blue. Can get these from the CS but it hurts my wallet.
Nice channel btw :)
They just released vintage II line. 57 strat with 7.25 radius.
Wow! Nice guitar. Wish I had 2 grand to spend right now. Plus I love good smelling gear! Great video!
American musical supply. Most people are approved for payments. Make the first payment and they send you the gear.
Thunder from down under, ripping it up
where can i download that backing track? I just picked up that guitar.. Amazing color and playability. Thanks for all the in-depth reviews..
White strat, love it
Man how I wish that fretboard was maple.I know you can find an american in this color with maple, but none with a nitro finish.
Well its six months later ,and the rosewood has grown on me.Thinkn bout saving for this guy.
Muy bueno , traigan la guitarra a la Argentina
Hey Shane, between this and and an American pro ii strat what would be your pick? It’ll be my only strat and i already have an original 60’s tele. Want something they plays it all and so far I’ve just heard this strat be a blues/classic rock monster but nothing straying from that.
Does it handle all kinds of pedals very well or nowhere near as well as the pro ii series?
Can you get a 60's strat with a maple neck?
Shane, Just bought one in shell pink. What amp were you using with this guitar? Great tone(s). Edit: Just noticed the camera pan the top of the amp.
How do you like it compared to a pro ii strat? Trying to make up my mind
@@jessesmith2906 Never played a pro ii but I do have an EJ Thinline and I do like its soft V neck better than the AO 60s neck profile but I love the 60s vintage tone.
Dang that sounds fat ! Great demo Shane as always .:-) (It's the lacquer finish that smells so good.)
Shane, how are the frets on this? Did you find the vintage/tall feel good for bending?
The lighting was messing with me at first, thought it had two nuts 🤣
How is the playability on this vs the American professional ii strat?
Yes!
Amen!!!
One of my favorite demos.
Good playing and tone. The intro was the best again.
I'm still trying to figure out your delta blues around 10:45. It is inspiring. Tell me where you picked it up.
The Bible says, there is nothing new under the sun.
Please do a tutorial.
Thank you.
Your youtuber in Christ, Chris Carreno
Hey Shane, have you ever tried a vintage 62 hot rod and could you tell what are the differences between them? I was gonna buy the hot rod now I've watched this vid....😩
Back to square one....😊
Thanks
if there not keeping it correct with the 9.5 radius why not put a headstock truss adjustment
Do the PV65's sound harsh? Or do they sound fat and warm too? Anyone?
Hy Shane: Can they (the 60s or 50s) relic / age like the old vintage ones? Down to the wood like a custom shop guitar? Or its not possible because they have poly under the nitro finish.
They do still lacquer check to some degree, and chip easily, but yeah there is poly underneath sadly.
CraigB yes they do. Even the old ones were sprayed/dipped in a similar filler cover to poly before the nitro was applied. I have a 90s model that has aged just like a 50s Strat.
@@GuitarMav But did they use Poly back in the days? I think it was "Acryl" !?! THX for the answer;)
Mike Stryder not poly but a sealer none the less. My 98 AVRI strat looks like one from 50s. Has all the checking and has sunken into the grain nicely. It has a poly under coat and nitro finish.
Are these with the nitro finish?
mmm...my next guitar
Sounds good 👍
Hi thanks for the vid, I actually grabbed one of these from sky! I'm noticing some peeling of the finish on the fretboard close to the neck wood. Do you happen to know if this is common? I think I can see some on that lefty in the vid. Maybe it's the nitro finish, but I thought that was just on the body. Any advice would be great!
Shane!
How about weighing it. How about specs? Finish, contours, neck shape (we have V C U 😅), radius, kind of frets and tremolo block material?
For example: nitro finish, 9.5” unlike the new AVRI and it has a C neck with vintage tall frets!
Very nice review! I really like this model, the only thing i'm not sure about are the frets... How does it feel to play with the 6105? I play with 6100 on my strat, probably compared to them the 6105 are to thin for me...
Maybe you knew this but they're the same height I have the Jumbo's on my American special I'm getting used to them railroad tracks.
Guitar ocd yes i know, they are 1.4 mm tall as the 6100, probably i can get use to them
Thanks!
I love the guitar lamp you have! I've seen that a bunch of times on UA-cam, where did you get it, or does anyone know where to find one? Also killer review! You sold me on this strat, I was thinking of saving up for a custom shop but I might just get this instead! My wallet would definitely thank me haha
Bit late but I got mine from skymusic. They had quite a few then.
@@guitaradrian07 Awesome! I'll check it out, thanks for the response 😁
Thanks for this. I might like the sound of the 60s one better? Not really sure. I already have 4 Strats but, none of them were expensive. My made in Mexico 50s Strat (which I purchased for only $450 U.S. after someone returned it!) also has non reverse wound middle and I agree that the sound is better with the hum.
People say that wonderful new guitar smell is from the nitrocellulose lacquer, but some think it is something they use in the case.
wanna save 1500 dollars? get the vintage thomas blug guitar...looks exactly like this one...same alder body...great neck great electronics...i love mine!
I was sure you were going to open with "The Boys of Summer".
