Gunprimer “RASER” kit: Is it worth the money?

  • When I picked up this kit I wasn’t sure what expectations I had. It is kind of an expensive kit to just sand the nubs down on your kits.
    In the time that I have used it however I am finding out that it is actually worth it and takes a lot of time out of prepping your kits for display!
    Link to the kit for some reason doesn’t want to turn into a hyperlink.

    I have the Raser v1.5 and the plus glass files. They are my go to files and I find them indispensable along with their balancer polishing sponges. The balancer is much like the UMP gloss buffing pads, but they do a better job. The Raser glass files are different from any other glass files I've used with their micro bumps that do a fantastic job of removing styrene and polishing it at the same time. I bought Infini glass files and they do not perform like the Rasers. I think those are intended to be used like traditional files as they don't do a finer polish of the surface. But, the gate removal kit performs extremely well and I love it. At $45 dollars, it isn't cheap, but I find it well worth the price. The balancers by themselves aren't expensive.

    sounds like generic nano glass is more value. also the loot i spent on the on the games workshop diamond files should help removing sharp glass edges that can dig into the plastic edit: my base sanding is a $3 nail buffing set that has 3 separate 2 side files (hunted down on wal-mart online) that does 2-6 kits.

    Btw im noticing the dark mark too. What can you do to prevent that happening?

    i have this kit too ... and ...... i think its .. decent .. besides being branded it works just as good as a typical cheap glass filer on amazon ..

    Visit Sally's beauty supply shop....You can find numerous sanding and buffing (nail) blocks......I have and use several different kinds that total less than $28USD.......

    Great review as I have been really tempted to save up for one of these to improve my skills and wanted to see the truth of it. The side by side of both methods is actually hella helpful.

      It was surprisingly worth it, I didn’t even known how big of a difference it made till I was editing the video and saw the time difference lol.
      The side by side was a little difficult to do lol my editing software didn’t want to allow it to work but I got it to work lol

      Yeah the premise works wonders on nubs! Once they are gone you can then do your prep sanding and it still cuts down the time spent by half! I love it and I have been using it on all my kits thus far! Lol

    Thank you for the review, I had a little extra Xmas money left so ordered the pack here. I'm looking forward to trying it out on my PG MK2 Titans...mainly because the armour is mostly under gated so I shouldn't have to try too hard. :)

      You will really enjoy it! I have used it on 3 separate kits so far and it has drastically cut the time down! It will allow me to finish more kits in 2020 so I’m sure it will do the same for you!

      @@NotSoAverageBuilder I've just finished my first PG a Strike, but still consider myself a beginner. When using this set, would you cut from the runner and then use nippers, god hands or something to cut the nub right down as best as the god hands will do and then move onto the glass file and gunprimer kit? Or do you cut from the runner, nip the nub down a little, but not fully and then use the gunprimer stuff? Thanks!

    • @NotSoAverageBuilder
      @NotSoAverageBuilder  4 роки тому +2

      So after using it for 4 kits now I have learned that you still want to cut off the runner farther up and then trim some of the nub down but you don’t have to trim down near as far so leave about 2-3 millimeters and then knock that down with the raser and it gives the best results!

    Im pre ordering the raser+. I have the nano glass file, as i wanna try these out before but saw the raser set expensive price. Sire it was cheap but it has drawbacks too. It tends to scar the surrounding area and kinda gloss them. Sometimes it kinda damages the part too. And the grit is too fine for the job. So it takes a lot and if u cheat by cutting close, it leaves discoloration. I dont want to buy metal file either cuz i cant wet sand (im scared of the dust particles). The new raser is 400 grit and the + has 220 grit power.

    • @NotSoAverageBuilder
      @NotSoAverageBuilder  3 роки тому +1

      I had thought about picking that up myself but after paying so much for the first one I’m really hesitant on buying anymore lol
      As far as wet sanding, is there any particular reason you can’t? I don’t mean to offend just curious lol and the dark mark always happened when I pushed too hard and/or went too fast. It’s like it burns the plastic lol

    • @obicross
      @obicross 3 роки тому

      @@NotSoAverageBuilder yeah i agree, its not a cheap product. And yes the old raser is still good especially the 1.5 i think? Its not better or worse more like just different sizes for different situation. It even says on The site the small raser is better for smaller nubs than thicker one, which makes sense. The price is the same on both
      Mostly health reason. I build in my bedroom, i dont have any other room where i can build my kits comfortably and my house doesnt have good circulation so its hot af most of the time. The idea of inhaling foreign materials like plastic or resin etc sounds horrible to me. And thinking logically, its gotta have a bad effect in the long run. And i have heard someone in my family died due to lung illness due to similar case (he had small birds as pets, inhaled too much of their very small feather particles, cough up blood). I even wear mask sometimes lol

    Many of the japanese Modellers I follow have these so I was kinda interested, but passed in the end.
    My japanese friends mostly said it's great when you want to do fast straight builds, but if you're going to do a paintjob it might be better to go the usual way.
    Thanks for the review !

    • @NotSoAverageBuilder
      @NotSoAverageBuilder  4 роки тому +1

      Ya know I could see that honestly. If I followed all the steps it would create too smooth of a surface for paint. I think I will combo it with 800 grit sandpaper to rough the surface up for paint etc.
      I will still use this as a denubbing tool and just stop after the file. Thank you for that info my friend! This is why I love this hobby, I’m always learning new stuff!

      @@NotSoAverageBuilder Could be your Export/Rendering Settings, or Maybe do Left/Right and just mask half the video. Wouldn't mind picking up that set, though yeah, price is a bit steep. Getting myself a good file and some ceramic blades and acrylic sticks to compliment all the other types of Files/Sanding Sticks and Sponges. Great content though, keep it up. :)

      I tried the side by side and it was worse than the above/below lol I will be getting my Mac setup to do better editing soon so hopefully that will increase my abilities (or should I say capabilities lol)
      It is a very expensive kit for what you get, and I’m sure that the amazon glass files you can find would be similar to this one, it’s always good to add to your sanding/polishing Arsenal ha ha with anything. There are so many nooks and crannies all over kits that have blemishes that you need a wide range of tools to fix them!
