- This summer Kelly traveled to her home state of Texas to witness firsthand how the Uvalde community has come together to heal and rebuild in the wake of the tragic school shooting. Kelly meets professor Abel Ortiz, who organized the creation of 21 murals honoring the students and teachers who lost their lives, hoping to provide a positive path to redefine their community. Muralist Juan Velasquez joins the show and shares why he chose to be a part of the project, and what he hopes the community gains from the murals. Kelly also speaks with H-E-B Public Affairs Manager Julie Bedingfield and architect Joshua Brown who are working on plans to build a new school for the community. Kelly made a similar statement in 2017 when she was asked to do a moment of silence at an award show. WHY 5 years later still with the same problems and the same plea... Ugh crying right there with you Kelly 💖

@@Nolanoyayo I agreed until my brother(a veteran) and retired deputy sheriff told me it's (the person) behind the gun. Yes, we DO NOT need AK assault rifles. I have always thought that was the dumbest and stupidest law passed for citizens. Where it shoukd be military or law officers only. I can lay out a dummy target easily with just a Glock, simple little 9 millimeter. I PRAY All semi-automatics are banned permanently in the US.
Our community cannot thank you enough for your generosity and for lending your heart, your voice and your platform to remind the world that our heartache and brokenness won’t ever be mended. We do try to continue to honor the lives lost, but we shouldn’t have to. Your show today truly means so much, the heaviness is felt in a very real way.

I'm not a mother but I am sobbing too! I hate to see such pain and fear of sending kids to school. This isn't a political issue this is a safety issue, a sense of peace issue.

I went to pay my respects and to Pray..for l don't know their pain but l know that I HAD to be there. No parent SHOULD ever have to experience the loss of a child..in such a horrific way. Sobbed through this whole thing. Thank you for sharing. I still haven't let me kids watch the coverage, they have enough to deal with already. They just know to be prepared based on the drills they are having at school. Just sucks to even think we have to prepare for the unknown.

This is so heartbreaking, yet inspiring. It really literally hits close to home, as I was born and raised 52 miles from Uvalde. I see myself in those young kids. The tragedy and horror and all they must’ve felt that day. But it brings me peace to know they are Home with our Eternal Father. I am so sorry for all their families. My heart goes out to them. ❤️
Thank you Kelly for the donation for my home town and our community we lost two Cuzin’s Xavier Lopez and Jayce Luevano broke my hearts when I found out of my cuzins passing was really close to my Cuzin Xavier just wish I knew my Cuzin Jayce more, my Cuzin Xavier had a girlfriend Annabell who also passed away they were in the same class together before this happened she called him that night and told him that she ♥️ him before the funeral my Cuzin asked the mother of Annabell if it was alright if they could be barred right next to each other and that’s what they did they even had their casket made by adding pictures of the kids and what they loved doing like my cuzin Xavier had TikTok on it he ♥️ doing TikTok videos with his mom and himself dancing he was such loving and caring little boy he just barely turned 10 in March once again Thank You Kelly for doing this

I live live about an hour away from Uvalde. I also have 7th grader who has had anxiety about going back to school. She won’t even go to the bathroom afraid that “what if” a shooter comes in and I won’t know what to do. How we do you convince her that it will be ok. It’s a struggle.
I just cried through this entire episode. I love Kelly and how she uses her platform.

To the state of Texas, you are all love and grateful. Grieving is good! This is similar to the 9/11 attacks but more special since it’s representing children and Latin culture.
So sorry for this devastating loss. Gun reform is needed. Find the agreeable balance for FREEDOM of ALL. That includes our children. Not for criminals, mentally challenged, or kids of parents that do not prevent access to their weapons to use to kill.

What’s hard, is that if I didn’t know who these kids were…it’d mean they’d be alive and living their lives. I’m honored to know their names and their lives. They lived such short lives but have made such a profound difference just in us learning about each of them and their individual beauties.

It touched me to the core to see this yesterday. I'm a single Mom with 2 kids that have Autism/Adhd my fear is this same thing. Saying goodbye to them every morning knowing that this is happening to our children in America. So many want to love land of the free, home of the brave. The bravery it took some of these kids to probably just stay safe and alive is what my thoughts regard right now. You are really special Kelly. 💕I'm a singer like you, born on the same day I remember this day like it was yesterday. My family was home sick with covid and I cried for days mourning their losses just watching through my t.v. I stand up to bullying for my kiddos. I advocate for more blended classrooms for them, and their peers. I'm sorry this happened to your families Uvalde. All the way from Rockford, Illinois. We mourn for your children too

I cannot wrap my head around worrying if my children will die in school, or if I, as a child, would've been even more screwed up as an adult having gone through that trauma. I cannot, absolutely cannot understand why the US allows their children to be in a warzone where they are the primary vulnerable group, almost like they are being hunted down and nothing, nothing, nothing is being done. I don't understand.
Do you not love your children? I'm writing this through tears as a child who have experienced abandonment and neglect, as an adult with cPTSD--how can a whole government--the country's parent--how can they abandon their children? I am oceans away but I feel triggered every time because how can you abandon your children, how can you let them be hunted down, gunned down--and after all that the gunmen are the ones who get the benefit of the doubt, the benefit of mental health issues? What about the mental health of the community? Of the country? Nothing, nothing is being done.
Private philantrophy can only go so far, taxes are being paid, the gov't needs to DO SOMETHING IMPACTFUL. Please. Do something.
Until we get Greg Abbott out of office and also Ted Cruz out of office, building new schools isn’t going to stop what happened in May.

My heart sunk hearing with this my nieces and nephews go to school a hour away from their and the communities are really close ended up texting them the day it happened because they travel with school activities Texas is huge in sports with kids. My thing is if we can send money over sees 40 million to ukraine and money to other countries we need to start taking care of my own and I think by doing this is just that the community must rally together there’s a lot of military men that are retired I have talked to that would love to secure the schools and protect everyone in the community Gun reform isn’t the answer we’ve protected our nation after 9/11 we can protect our schools it’s going to take a village to do but I tell my nieces if you see something say something we can’t be silent anymore and these communities in the surrounding areas are really close hopefully something will be done

I just moved to be with my daughter, husband, and grandson. I'm retired. At this point I take him to, and pick him up from elementary school (when his Dad is home, he does at least one of those daily trips). What I experience there, when dropping him off, and picking him up, is a school that protects the kids in ways that I would not have thought of before. Identification, both ways (child to family) - car alignment, a process for taking them out of the car, and putting them back in. At first it seems very slow, but it's really not when you look at the total time investment. I won't be specific, I won't give out that info for safety. But I am impressed. I actually look for flaws in this, and I really can't see them. It is too bad kids just don't come in by bus and mill around for awhile, like when I was a kid (back in '62) - but this is a totally different wold. I respect this school a whole bunch. They are getting to know me a little also but they are efficient. Bravo Kelly for this story. Uvalde hurt so much... as did Sandy Hook... I've contributed now to both of them. Great Great show.

I'm sorry but they only passed away because the police didn't do their job. And took to damn long to go in the school. I feel so sorry for all of the families of those babies. I hope they get some kind of closer

This is a huge problem. Schools should not be struggling with funding funds to have a Security Resource Officer. All children and staff should feel safe. A incident happen this week at my elementary child's school. My kindergarten child came home scared telling me he had to hide behind the table and teacher told them to be quiet. When he hears the siren going off from video my older child got from her friend he says stop playing that. It was scary. My older child said her teachers had fear in there eyes and one placed a book shelf in front of door. My heart sank for them. Thankfully with the quick response from staff and Security Resource Officer they were all unharmed and bad guy with weapon was captured. Leaders please 🙏 make a change. Our babies should not be in fear of going to school. Kelly thanks for speaking on this topic and making a valid point. My heat is with you always! I didn't know Kelly Clarkson was born here in Texas I'm grateful that she giving out money to raise a new school for these kids who lost their lives during a mass shooting I am also grateful that I'm also her greatest fan I love her songs I love her her story goes everything about Kelly Clarkson is that she is loved and she's positive and she's peaceful and she is very nice

I’m sending all of my own thoughts and prayers to Texas with this is why we should all come together as one to stop all of the violence even that’s to impossible to control other people but still it’s never right to do something like that

When I saw the news on my cell, I told my mom what happened and we turned on the news. As I sat there, my mom fell to her knees screaming at the TV "OMG not again those children" Crying too! Never will forget that day and NEVER FORGET those children :(
