GenRight Hi Line Fender Install on the TJ6! Chop Chop

- In this one, I do my best to install some Genright Hi-Line fenders on the TJ6 Wrangler. Jeep left me no choice with their low hanging stockers! One step closer to the axle swap. And Lastly I attempt to answer the existential query of the best time to start a major project. Come along as I muddle my way through this hobby while balancing work/family/Jeep life.
Keep up the good work on the videos. Totally relate to everything you said about taking it apart especially when it ain’t broke. Always afraid to “open a can of worms” and also falling further down the rabbit holes of mods and expenses
Thanks, and I agree about the added expenses, I’ve already had to go out and buy a new agm battery because the old one didn’t care for being mounted on an angle. Battery prices are ridiculous right now.
From Canada here, drive Jeep year round. The trick is to drill drain holes in the frame where the lower control arm mounts are welded. This was a factory Jeep flaw with no drain holes. And then fluid film the frame or use any lanolin product to prevent rust. Have had my Jeeps years not a Speck of rust and wheeled in the snow
Fluid film is held in high regard here in the rust belt!!!
I'm generally hesitant to have my Jeep down during Michigan's few summer months as well. I only run mine from Easter till Halloween (Ish), and I try to plan my major projects for the winter months when I have it parked for the rust season. Last summer I made the mistake of getting anxious for a certain project and took it down in August, and finally after countless issues with tuning and such I got it back up and running in late May this year. However now she's up and running and more fun then ever. When I swapped out my fenders and added armor I ended up going with Metalcloak since I did not want to cut up my hood. The Genright setup looks great!! Nice repair on the passenger side by the way.
Thanks metal cloak makes some great stuff…. I try to plan major projects for winter too, I just need to get some heat set up for this winter.
I did the same exact fenders. I had the same experience and it turned out badass. It’s worth it. I recommend the push button hood pins.
Awesome l, that’s good to hear. I just installed the hood pins yesterday and agree they look good. I’ve still got to figure out the 2 wire led turn signals. The signals work fine except when I turn the headlights on. Then no dice.
@@jimmykale I used a 3 wire 3/4” led. Running and blinker
@@jimmykale Also, get a jk hood spring and mount it just like the factory hood spring. That way you’ll have 2 springs and the hood will jump up when you release the hood pins.
Thanks I hadn’t heard of that mod before.
Did genright shaft you $200 as well? Heard they did that to the guy on UA-cam with the biggest TJ channel. Glad they didn’t get my money.
Great job. I really enjoyed your videos. Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks, it’s been a fun experience so far.
Yup, I always try to do bigger projects over the winter when the jeeps parked, don’t want to miss the few months of good weather
Ugh I know, work was kinda rough this week and I’d like to go camping this weekend but I’ve got to finish those fenders….
I’m always scared to pull my Jeep apart. Enjoying the videos.
It’s just the unknown of what you might find… thanks for the comment
I did this on my Cj7 and it took a lot longer than I thought it would. Trimming the hood to the proper clearance took a while. The entire time I’m thinking (I hope I don’t jack this up).
Great videos I’ve watched this video multiple times are the front fenders 4” ? love what you have done with your project. Would like to know if front fenders are to short up by grill does it come close to some type of representation of a cj 2a with the fenders in the front .
Hey thanks for the support! Yes they are 4 inch flares, and it does have a pseudo flattie look as the flares are flat on top.
So ill start with I love the results. Secondly what makes it a TJ-6? I'm assuming it's a play on CJ-6 but it looks like an odd duck TJ unlimited.
I refer to it as a tj6 because originally it was a tj. I cut it in half and stretched the body and frame 15 inches to Lj length. Kind of like what jeep did to the Cj5 to create the cj6.
@jimmykale awesome, thanks for the response. I was thinking about doing the same but more length behind the wheel well like a cj8 scrambler and a half cab. I would dub it tj8 if no offense would be taken from the rip off of your rigs name.
Absolutely none taken, there is actually a tj6 Facebook group where there is probably 20 or 30 people that have “tj6’s” .
Can you tell me what size lift you have at the time of this video and what size tires before you swapped to the bigger ones that you have? I have an LJ with 4in lift and 35s. I’d like to get the highlines and I am hesitant because of possibly too small of tire at this moment. Thank you. Your Jeep looks great with the new fenders.
In this video I am running a 2 inch coil spacer and a 1 inch body lift. So three inches of overall lift. The tires in this video are 35x12.50r17 bfg km3 mud terrains. Thanks for the compliment.
@@jimmykale I appreciate the info
Do you really have a camp crystal lake or is that a Friday the 13th shirt?
It’s a Friday the 13th shirt…. I like 80s campy horror movies. Plus Jason is awesome
