      @@Bluebox87that’s because Hepburn was incredibly private person no one knew her persona outside her family members. Scorcese & Blanchett did have no choice but to reply heavily on Hepburn’s persona as an actor, being bombastic was integral part of her acting so I don’t have really problem with Blanchett’s embodying of Katherine Hepburn.
      Edit: I thought Portman was excellent that year, if Blanchett’s hadn’t won, she’d have for Bob Dylan. Which was quite insane

    Blanchett’s performance in Tar was simply a Masterclass in acting. It’s the best I have seen since Daniel day Lewis’s’There will be blood’.
    She put so much work into the Lydia Tar, so much people were wondering if Lydia was a real person. Filmmaking didn’t help her much in sense she wasn’t embodying Mahler 5 symphony and mirroring that in performance, the way you have seen in Black swan, whiplash. Flatter artistic style in cinematography, steady cams, lot less editing out lot of the weight on Blanchett’s shoulders. That’s why it’s such a tremendous performance, Oscar or not this one is for the books. Despite how many Oscars she has or win in future, she already established her status as one of the greatest actors of all times.

    What are your thoughts on her performance in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button? I always found it frustrating that everyone was focusing on Brad Pitt's transformation but didn't even talk about Cate. It was as if she wasn't even in the movie, yet she was the narrator. • @SoulKnightKing
      @SoulKnightKing Місяць тому +6

      @K.C-2049 I mean it's not. But people clown on Jamie Lee Curtis winning when she won for campaigning but then act like Yeoh won out of merit. Pundits, journalists, media, heck Brian himself publicly have said that Blanchett is better but let's give it to Yeoh. So the hypocrisy is like a whiplash it's like do you say its supposed to be based on merit, but than act like JLC winning was the worst win ever when she did the same thing as Ke and Yeoh. Personally, I think Yeoh is vastly overrated. During the campaign they acted like she's the reason stuntwork changed or that no Asian has broken down the barriers in cinema like she has completely trying to erase Jackie Chan, who was a box office action star who did more for martial art stubtwork exposure and innovation than Yeoh ever did.

    Yeoh fans may vehemently argue that Yeoh performance in EEAAO is better than Blanchett's TAR and is deserving of that Oscar she was so hungry for, but there is no denying that after the entire season when Blanchett was showering Yeoh praises after praises, Yeoh re-posted a Vogue article on her instagram account during the Oscar voting period (hence violating the Academy rules) suggesting that Blanchett does not need any more Oscar because she already has 2 while it would mean a whole lot more if a minority like her would win. Yeoh quickly took down that post. It speaks a lot about Yeoh's character as a decent human being. She is fake, and will push anyone who is in her way. Just ask people in Malaysia who know her family background and her dirty political connections.

    TÁR at #1 oh yes! I love that performance to death, though I'm also happy with Michelle Yeoh's win. In a weird way I also think it fits Lydia Tár to be "underrated" and not win, in the grand scheme of things lol. But here's hoping Cate gets a third win down the line.
    Overall, I would personally put Carol and I'm Not There a bit higher than those placements, but your ranking makes sense. If I could highlight another performance from her it would probably be Heaven, though that's not really an awards movie. Shame though that Kieslowski passed before he could finish that trilogy, would have loved to have the rest of it.

    Glenn Close ranking please…
    About Cate, we all know she could have won long time ago as Best Actress for Elizabeth, but we know that because of Weistein, Paltrow won Best Actress .., like wtf
    In TAR, she indeed gave the best performance of that year but TAR is a bit divisive as not everyone like the film and would not even finish the film. Thus, people really set aside how amazing she was. Plus, EEAAO has been receiving love and the campaign for another woman of color to win since Halle Berry was very strong and it favored the other deserving Best Actress nominee MICHELLE YEOH. It was indeed a toss up and i love them both.

    I think people placing Tar over Blue Jasmine is only due to recency bias. If you rewatch both films ten years from now and study Cate’s performances in both, there’s a clear winner (and yes, she’s phenomenal in both).

    I would probably rank The Aviator higher. Cate Blanchett (my favorite modern-day actress playing Katharine Hepburn (my favorite classic actress) was just sublime. I just wished Martin Scorsese had made an entire film about Hepburn. I could care less about Howard Hughes.

    I would rather have a long, fulfilling career where I am respected by my peers and co-workers than win an Oscar for one performance, then disappear like a flash-in-the-pan. Cate has achieved both respect, adulation, career longevity, and multiple Oscar wins. I don't think fans need to feel sorry for her, for losing out a few times to high-quality actresses like Michelle Yeoh 😂
    I think her performance in TAR is extraordinary, BTW. She just keeps getting better!
