Not too many of the “mainstream” reviewers cover the B&W high end book shelf speakers. Although to be honest, just the look of the $4,000 a pair 700 series bookshelf B&W has it loosing to the clean and futuristic Q concert.

Totally agree with your findings here. I manged to pick a new set of these up for half price with a view to them being used in my second listening room on AV duty. However, as I was running them in I found I preferred them to my existing, much more expensive, main speakers (scanspeak drivers) which have since been relegated to the second room.

Agree with all this. The Concept 300s are my favorite bookshelfs. The soundstage is spacious & accurate. Music sounds dynamic & appropriate through them. They're not as exciting as a Klipschorn, nor as bass forward as floorstanders, but what they deliver is a rewarding, detailed & well separated performance that sounds realistic. And the stands are amazing pieces of art. The base of the speaker they connect to is damped and the stands themselves damp vibrations via the tensioned struts. It's a truly wonderful design. Just make sure the dog and cat don't have a fight near your 300s.

    • @andrewrobinsonreviews
      @andrewrobinsonreviews  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you!
      1. They're going to work well in most any room. You may find their smoothness to be a little more soft if your room is overly dampened but you can always attenuate the tweeter to +0.5dB to combat that.
      2. It really depends on what you're hoping to achieve, what your budget is and what you're pairing said equipment with. I don't have a blanket recommendation to give you, sorry.

    Very good Video.
I was testing the last 4 years to find my endgame speaker.
Q Acoustics Concept 20- very good detail and clear but you need sub.
Dynaudio focus 160- very good but too layed back and you need sub.
Pmc Twenty 22 5- my low volume favorite but not for mid or high volume, the bass is too forward.
Paradigm persona b- crazy soundstage but vocals not natural.
    Atc scm 11- crazy good
Atc scm 19- crazy detail but a bit analytic.
    Dynaudio special 40- very good.
Elac vela bs 403- very good but too less contours with vocals and Instruments.
Q Acoustics Concept 300- very good.
Dynaudio contour 20- very good but voices are not perfect.
Buchardt s 400- good but not for low volume.
Totem Acoustic Tribe Tower- very good.
But at the end i found my endgame speaker in the Dynaudio confidence c1 mk2.
Very deep and big soundstage. Good detail. Good for long listening sessions. Good for low volume. Very detailed bass. I need no sub. Perfect balance. Bit warm and very full body sounding. Vocals sound very nice. And single wire. I like that.
C1 can not play loud. But i am listening low or mid volume.
So test the Dynaudio confidence c1 mk2, or signature or platinum. All the same only not colour wise.
I paid 3000 Euro for my pair like new with the original stands. Maybe you can find now for 2800 Euro.
    Thanks for your videos.

The Concept 300 beats out the 500 any day, it doesn't look like it but it does. I listened to the Concept 300 with the Japanese Air Tight tube amp. Really really good. Concept 300 is comparable to the B&W 800 series but at 50% of the cost. The 3030i are great speakers at a 10th of the cost but it will never overpower the Concept 300. Not that the 3030i is bad. They are not, they can take on the B&W 7 series or even the Xavian Joy Speakers but Q Acoustics are so much cheaper and way better quality.

I listend to both speakers with m6si and blusound node2i.
Yes the 300 are more balanced than the 500 but the midrange on the 500 is magically delightful and better that on the 300.
The soundstage is bigger on the 500 and it sounds much more natural and transparent in every way. Different class speaker.
The only thing that 300 does better is the implementing the bass in to the sound. In the 500 the bass was a bit seperate from the spactacular midrange. Maybe it needed more power?

I think it would be awesome to see stuff that isn't really reviewed much elsewhere, especially from smaller American shops: the new Ascend bookshelf speakers, anything from Salk (ideally those crazy looking BMRs), something new (or with little to no UA-cam reviews) from Tekton, anything from Fritz, those crazy omni-directional speakers or the open baffles from Decware, the cube bookshelf speakers from Zu...

@eriksven We actually do try to bring lesser known brands and products to the channel. Sometimes we're successful and other times, they don't see the benefit of UA-cam. That said, there is a certain amount of difficulty that comes with reviewing really small brands. Often they can be very hard to get (not sold online) and this lack of availability only frustrates viewers when they can't get their hands on a product. Secondly, we have to consider brand recognition when we take time to review a product. These videos take a ton of time and if they aren't watched (which can happen when you're talking about something people haven't heard of), that affects a lot of things on our end making it hard to justify the time spent. We'll be sure to take a look at your recommendations and see if there's a good fit. Thanks for watching.

If you can get your hands on a pair Vox 3f standmount speakers from Swiss manufacturer Soundkaos you might be blown away. They also come with an anti vibration stand, are made of solid wood but are 3 way in design. They're probably just a little bit more expensive than the Concept 300's but a very cool looking design also. Obviously not as mainstream as Q Accoustics but the pair that i listened to gave a sound that belied their size. They're truly remarkable.

Admittedly the speakers I’d suggest throwing down against Q Acoustics would be the Polk Lsim 703 which appears to be the benchmark for Polk for some years; I’m not in the market but question how they’d go. Thomas seems to like the 707’s as his benchmark. The cost of hifi seems to grow beyond the technical significance arguably? Even Polk has pushed their new benchmark SDA speakers to a cost possibly beyond the general consumers budget?

@@andrewrobinsonreviews Oh yes, they are as utilitarian looking as sin. I have a pair of the larger 8260 monitors in my living room with a 77" OLED.
For the ones series, I think white helps a lot, though they certainly still have an odd look to them, which if I understand correctly, is required to get the kind of performance they have.
-Edge to edge waveguide that blends into a minimum diffraction enclosure.
      -Zero air gap coaxial drivers.
-No parallel walls to reduce internal reflection buildup.

-Cast aluminum to increase internal volume with thinner walls.

2nd vote for Genelec: GENELEC 8260A. Personally heard only their old 1-series next to TV years ago, but then took notice as started to wonder, why the sound was so good and could not see any big speakers nor a rack full of gear. For the size, exceptionally good so with this flagship 8260A (over 5k€ even here in Finland!) would be interesting. Not much tested around UA-cam.

C'mon Andrew - correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you one of 4 or 5 YT audio reviewers that deemed towers a better investment for those with the space than bookshelf / standmount speakers ? You've clearly fallen for these because the aesthetics fit in with your 'Better Homes and Living Rooms' push - fine, but even without hearing either I'd take the towers over the 300+subwoofers. Perhaps I've just been unlucky or lacked the patience to make the latter configuration work but that's my two cents worth. Who knows - put me in a room blindfolded I may have a different opinion but until that happens my days of crawling around on the floor trying to dial a sub in are over. Thanks for the video.
