Thank goodness someone FINALLY decided to make videos like this!!!! This is a HUGE help to us who are just beginning to design ....you are AWESOME!!!!!
Yes! Thank you for not only describing the plants, the watercolor and planting plan are so helpful. I would love to see more of these, when you plant, providing not only the watercolor but also the guide so we know how to place the plants and how many to buy. Thanks for your great channel.
This is so helpful to see the various combinations! Especially liked the planting diagrams - great for planning an entire bed rather than my typical piecemeal approach to design 🥴. Thank you!
I have been contemplating shade plants for my north garden for quite a while. These are wonderful ideas. Can't wait for spring. The watercolors were awesome. Thank you.
Thanks Michelle for the awesome ideas for shade plantings. I have a hard time getting things to grow in areas of my yard because we have a lot of trees. Which is great for shade but not so great because of the shade. 🤔😁 I tried planting heuchera for the first time last year and I LOVE it! It held on during the winter and burst forth this spring with gusto. I am in zone 8A/B and it took the heat last summer, I did water almost daily until it was established. Thank you for the great ideas! Be blessed!❤❤
I have many of these in my shade garden, but I love the way you have combined them! I will be moving some things around in the spring and adding a few things. I grew Astlillbe 'Dark Side of the Moon' last year and fellin love with it too. Thank you for this landscaping series.
Oooh, can’t wait to see you plant these up, Michelle. I need to try pulmonaria, never had that. I’m in zone 6b/7a (Kentucky). Tried to reply to you yesterday, but it kept disappearing. They’ll probably all be there today, lol. Love your videos!
I enjoy listening to you explain the plants and their arrangements. You are straight forward and provide wonderful visuals. However, will these plants do well, if placed near pines or spruce? I'm planning to turn a 30' wide space into a shade garden, but the only non-conifer is a wild mulberry in the middle. Will your planting suggestions work for me?
I am going to break your heart and say probably not....not only is there limited light, conifers have very dense root systems and hog all the water and nutrients. So all of these would be a risk. The shade in these areas tends to be very dry. Ground cover would be a better solution and even then extra water and fertilizer would aid in getting something established
2:15 No 1 blue- chartreuse combo: Pulmonaria, Polemonium, fern, and chartreuse heuchera. 7:04 No 2: different green leaf plants: Pulmonaria, fern, hosta, dark heuchera. 9:40 No 3 pink- dark foliage Combo: dark Astilbe and heuchera, hosta. 12:14 No 4 deer resistent: brunnera, Polemonium, dark heuchera 14:20 No 5 white- blue Combo: Aruncus, brunnera and Hosta.
Some of the white edged and some of the chartruse ones will tolerate a little sun.....morning sun is better...I think they all scorch in hot afternoon sun.

Unfortunately the deer Love my hostas as well as the rabbits.
:(
Any suggestions for shade plants that can tolerate dry conditions?
Keep watching......
Hi Michelle! Is there types of hostas that can tolerate more sun?
Some of the white edged and some of the chartruse ones will tolerate a little sun.....morning sun is better...I think they all scorch in hot afternoon sun.
Do you cut back lungwort in the fall like a hosta?
You can.
