- Father and son duo, David and Jason, from Xi’an Famous Foods are in the MUNCHIES Test Kitchen making longevity noodles and concubine’s chicken. Their homemade (and super long!) longevity noodles are paired with a concubine’s chicken- a sweet, sour and slightly spicy dish named after a famous concubine from the Tang dynasty known for her hedonism (particularly when it came to food). Two really great guys. They donated $60k (one weeks revenue) to suicide prevention charities after Anthony Bourdain's death. Bourdain visited their first location when they were on the edge of bankruptcy and the television attention helped their business succeed.
Amazing. I need to buy their cook book too!
🥺🙏🏾
@Dorothy Tang Might be gross revenue, not net income.
My heart still hurts for Tonie
Buy the book, totally changed my cooking routine and elevated my game, still freaks my girl out when I'm slapping the cutting board when making the Biang Noodles. Lmao
I am lucky to live by a Xi'ans Famous Foods. I feast there if I ever have a bad day or to celebrate a small win :D
Dads got that old school queue hairstyle
Pops got that sauce
Bianzi-type fit
That's Sokka from avatar
I love how they really dig into the noodles everytime after filming.
"father"? boi u guys look like the same age! That's amazing
Ìi j
his dad speaking so standard mandarin makes me nostalgic...
Sorry, I have no clue about mandarin so what do you mean by that?
Ok, but what is the Chinese equivalent to “Black don’t crack”? Because dad looks like he could be his brother! Is this what longevity noodles do to you?!?! 😂
Asians don’t raisin! 😂
The dad does look older for sure, but his skin is still very smooth, except for around the eyes. I bet this is because he's probably working really long hours everyday in the kitchen so doesn't get exposed to the sun very much and get sun damage.
Look up the "average asian aging process" meme
Or you just marriage in teens...
Happend in old days.
I wish their restaurant was in my city, I would go at least once a month to cure my noodle cravings.
Ok- I love this duo 🥰! So much good and interesting information, delicious dish, and great personalities 🤗. Besides the fact that the dad is also the king of drip, I love his silent proudness as his son presents and translates. So sweet.
Excellent video! I love these types of noodles. Its amazing how simple the recipe is, but the technique must take years to master!
Love your Demonstration to make Longevity Noodles. Thanks David & Jason.
Dad: speaking chinese all the way till the end of the video suddenly... "delicious"
cracks me up, lol
Some call the chicken dish ‘big plate chicken’. I follow a uyghur UA-cam channel Dolan Chick for making this noodle and chicken dish. She gives very detailed techniques how to pull the noodles.
Love his dad's hair! ;)
Thanks for sharing such amazing techniques. I will be stretching noodle one day soon thanks to you gents.
I love these dudes! Dad is cool AF! Love the vibes
Very clear explanations by the son!
I love all the history and cultural education he pairs with the cooking. If they had their own show I'd watch it all the time.
When the dad is edgier than the son
I love this family. They love what they do and are never bothered to share their recipes.
Love Dads hair 🔥
David always got a new hairstyle in every video.
God I love traditional Chinese food so much.
I remember stopping by their original stall in the basement. That was life changing.
Golden Mall is gone now too
Thanks for Cute informative demo❤️!
This is a really interesting dish. Looks absolutely delicious. I've been wanting to get into cooking more asian-inspired dishes to provide something sharply different to the medieval european/british style cooking I usually like to do.
I really enjoyed this!
Coolest dad ever
nice team work, father and son
Hello there Munchies, I saw your NOTIFICATION just now and had to come on over to show you some support! Peace and Love to you, V. :0)

every time i go into the city, i get xian famous foods. every time.
I bet that kitchen smells so good 🔥🔥🔥😮
This is me and my dad. He do all the work and I translate.
Something about the way his dad said "delicious" gave me vibes.
with the sauce drippin down his chin, you know he aint lyin!
I love how He uses the glove so he doesn’t get the measuring cup dirty *SMART* lol
Probably has a wound on his hand that he’s trying to conceal as it’s unsanitary
My man has a burn right above his thumb ya dingus
Amazing~!
This is absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe how hungry I am now and I just ate dinner!
Man they're cool
dad's hair game is untouchable
Oh yeah looks delicious😊👍
I want some!
Cool guys!!
Sick bro 👌🏽
This really feels like something i watched on this channel a few years ago. Deja Vu
You must be thinking of their Hand-Ripped Noodles video on this channel. I initially thought the same thing!
Let people do what they need to do to make them happy, mind your own business, and do what you need to do to make you happy.
Look delicious!!!!!!
Father??? He looks so young!
I LOVE THE DAD!!!!!!
Cool hair dude😂😂😂😂
Nice
David Shi has cool hairstyle!
Awsome !!!
🔥
How come they don't have the same last name?
The best part was at the end I will not spoil it but anyone can determine it just watch and think
Woh 😁
Nice! Those are some beautiful look at noodles! Also nice to bring focus on this region of China were so many people are suffering right now because of the oppressive government. I know they didn’t talk about it, because it’s a food video, but hopefully people will try to learn more.
You’re leaving out the main ingredient that gives stretch to the noodle
Buy the book

Am I the only one that thought the father was a friend around the same age as the son before we realised their relationship?
Dope dad
Father and son? You two look the same age!
Wtf? In your first munchies video from 2 years ago, the father looked 20 years older than he does now
Dad is cooler than son
Your dad's hair is fresh
They are both so handsome.
Mr shi is super cool
I'm kinda curious that his surname is Wang and his dad's Shi...
Must be step father
Probably father-in-law.
Maybe Wang is his mom’s surname
Longevity an concubine..hmmm
Guys, when you have two ppl being one from another country, it would be really nice to try to make both of them present the program in both English and the other language. Either way, that was a ready nice episode, keep it up!
dad is the star, son the straight man?
Is this a reupload or am I losing my shit?
The noodles look like string, being pulled along by both of them using hands.
Sokka making noodle now?
Pulled long pieces hahahahaha yeah ok
where is ferideh???
How do they not have same last name?
Father in law or step father maybe?
Most likely the son took the mom’s last name... not that uncommon for Chinese, especially if the dad already has an older brother to carry on the family name
Asian Doug funny Rofl
akala ko si jackie chan hahahahja
IT'S TIME TO WAKE IT UP 😭

Xi'an ❤️❤️❤️

Why do they have different surnames ?
Tong Po
i wonder how many people actually know what a concubine is
Why do you think it’s such uncommon knowledge?
Whos the father?
Honest question, asked by someone who lived abroad and whose first language isn't English: how would you live in a country for decades and not learn the language? I know the Chinese community in the US used to be very insular, but it's been decades since Chinese food became a staple for westerners. I'm not attacking the guy, just really trying to understand how it's possible to not only live but have a successful business in a place where you can't communicate efficiently.
I think the older generations that came over to America tend to socialize and feel comfortable only among people similar to themselves. I think his son (and his other children?) does all of the interfacing with the non-Chinese customers and clients anyway.
But we don't know if the father doesn't speak or understand English though. Maybe he's just not comfortable speaking English in front of a camera.
In a different video, the son said they moved to the US when he was 8, so "decades" might be a stretch. It's probably just barely two decades based on how old the son looks. The son is the one who manages the business side, the father is the master chef, and for that he doesn't need English. But as another person commented, he probably does know English, but may not feel comfortable speaking it in front of the camera.
Free Xinjiang.
You seriously mentioned Xinjiang and the Uighurs without mentioning how the Chinese have put 1 million of them in concentration camps?!
stfu fake news
Please provide prove
This is cooking show, and they are American, please don't create any further Asian hate. So many Asian died in usa because of hate, you not satisfied, how many more? Really hate people using this to create hatred.
nice english
His father looks like Jackie Chan
No he doesn't. You racist
Yeah he does. Face structure wise. Nothing racist about that u soft snowflake
@@angellover02171 I don't see it either, but OP is clearly also Chinese. That's not racist.
@@johnz6877 are they? People can write whatever they want as their user name.
@@angellover02171 Just because they can doesn't mean it's likely they did, that should be obvious. Do you know what Occam's Razor is? You mean to tell me that a person with a Chinese user name is more likely to be _not_ Chinese than Chinese? Think about how stupid that sounds.
