Thank you so much for this video. In the past week I’ve mounted 7 skull mounts and 8 skull cap mounts. The skull cap project, I did it exactly as you demonstrated in your video. Your method worked perfectly. I used picture hanging wire, because I didn’t have access to brass wire. I love how my project turned out. I wish I could show you a picture. I had about 3 skull caps that were too heavy. I started to add another wire, but I drilled a tiny hole in each and tacked it down with a short nail. That did the trick.
@@GIOUTDOORSAbsolument!😁 Took a pic of it flanked by two Hudson Bay pillows, but I see I cannot post a pic here. Seriously though, it looks great! Thanks again for the video!
Hey, you can always get some from your local taxidermist, or go to your local sporting goods store to see if they have any in stock and should be cheaper than ordering online. Also alot of people make them themselves and stain it to the color they like. Here's an example of one you can buy online. Usa: a.co/d/bYHmvkE Canada: a.co/d/74W5aew Hope this helps let me know if ever you have any questions.
Hey, It's a walnut plaque that I bought online. I had both a bunch off ebay. They measure 8inch wide x 10 inch long. Let me know if you have any other questions
Anyone know of another way to mount antlers like this but without wire? Wanting to keep the hide that’s still on the skull and show it off but I’m not able to drill tiny holes in the head because of the way it was cut. Thanks!
Hey, it depends on the size of deer your putting up. 9x12 is the standard size so you'll be good with that.i wouldn't go bigger. The smaller the plaque the bigger the rack will look 😉
Hey, we used brass wire because it was flexible and when braided together it was much stronger than the regular steel one. If your going to use something else just make sure it's strong enough by bending it back and forth and seeing if it holds up. In our experience the metal ones snapped so we didn't want to take a chance for the rack to fall off the wall. Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions.
Check online for the wood plaques, or local garage sales alot of people enjoy making them. For the wire, we used brass wire used for snares. Mountain Mike's sells great mounting kits. Hope this helped.
Behind the plaque there's a hole where we hang it on the wall with a screw. If you don't find a stud make sure to use a butterfly dry wall anchor. Hope this helps
I had gotten mine off Ebay and some didnt come with a hole on the back either so used a picture hanging kit you can find at your local dollarstore/Walmart
Some wood plaques already come with a hole on the back. If not you can buy a picture hanging kit and screw it on. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
@@GIOUTDOORSIt looks to be very straightforward. Nice tutorial! I shared this vid with my brother-in-law and nephew. I always get nervous about screwing into the back of the skull through the plaque. Oftentimes there is not much width to the bone around the brain cavity, so this method is very discreet and looks to be foolproof! Glad I found this vid-thanks!!!😊👍🏼
Thanks for watching this week's video! What's YOUR favourite way to mount a deer!? Let us know down below! See you all next week!
You can Google "Deer Scalp" thats the term they use. (Here atleast anyways)
Searched for days looking for exactly this. Thank you guys.
Glad you found what you were looking for!

Perfect. I've had this skull cap laying around for a few years...now I know what to do with it.
Awesome, let us know how it goes!
Nice work guys, they looked and came out good. I liked that wire wrap technique with the drill very cool. Cleaned the bases really good too, nice job.
Thanks bud! There's many ways to mount a deer scalp but this is a super quick and easy way that we enjoy doing.
GI OUTDOORS yea we always screw it from inside to the back different but your way is cleaner I like it
Yeah as long as the buck stays on the wall we're all happy lol

Can you post a link to the brass wire? There are so many kinds online or tell me the gauge you use
Hey, 20 Guage brass wire is what I used. Here's an example: a.co/d/22o8FWJ

Hey, maybe look into a Skull Hooker bone bracket? Or a small l bracket from the hardware store with very small screws. Hope this helps
Every white tail is a trophy
We agree with that Vlad 100% 🙏🏻
How big of a plaque do you recommend? 9x12?
Hey, it depends on the size of deer your putting up. 9x12 is the standard size so you'll be good with that.i wouldn't go bigger. The smaller the plaque the bigger the rack will look 😉
Can you drill a screw through the center of the skull without splitting it?
You should be able to screw through the center without problems, just use a drill and a new bit.
Where did u find brass wire
We get it at our local hardware store or hunting store.
If all else fails check walmart
Thats cool, thanks! Does it have to be brass wire or is that a preference?

For your picture... it wasn’t that cold... maybe it was depending on your camera. But typically that means your ISO wasn’t right..
I love the mount though ! Looks beautiful!
Good to know thanks for watching 👍
I love that accent

What IS that accent??
Canadian from Montreal 🤟
What about how to hang it from the back?

Hell yaaaaaa
We just can't get enough, we could talk about deer and racks all day long lol

??
Hey, do you have a question?
That is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Lazy man mount🙄. SMH
