A cool tip for checking your waterproof feature without putting your phone in water would be by going to the keypad and inputting *#0*# Click on the sensor button and look for the section under barometer. If you apply some pressure to your phone and it is properly sealed, the barometer number should go up.
so if from 978.68 goes up ti 978.90 should be all good?

@@florinalinbeudean it goes up about 2 or 3 pa on my factory sealed phone when I have no case and both my thumb's pressing the screen and my other 8 fingers pressing on the back to make pressure.
Never understood why the back is made from glass. Why? Should be a tough plastic since most use a case anyway. Mine shattered even when a case on it.

Helpful video. I'll be changing mine when the part comes in. I also have a Galaxy Tab 4. I know, I know, it's a dinosaur. But mine is rooted and I have like 6 custom ROMs I switch between so I've been loathe to let go of it. It was the first device I rooted and installed TWRP on so it has sentimental value. The damn charging port has finally gone completely out on me though. I know this repair requires some soldering. It'd be nice if I could watch you do the repair before I attempted it

You know what? I'll just put silicone under there. It might not be able to stay 2 metres underwater, but one thing it'll do for sure. Stay sealed when using it in rain or with wet hands
If replacing the back removes the watefproof feature, would getting it fixed at Samsung keep the waterproof feature?
Can I just run pubg for a few rounds and remove the back.. s8 gets super super hot to the touch after playing

That looks like really hard work, your a pro and it looked like you was having a bit of a struggle with it, and you have the tools and equipment. I don't reckon i will be doing it myself, i'd rather pay someone to do a professional job. Thanks anyway for showing how to replace the back cover on s8+.
what type of adhesives would you recommend to return it to its water resistance? thank you... if anything ill send it to Samsung... they'll do it for 65 bucks, I love this phone enough !
If you want to guarantee water proof send it to Samsung. You can make it water proof but I still don’t recommend putting it in water after.
Absolutely beautiful job!!!! Perfect instructions. I absolutely know it is VERY hard to see things like re-connecting the fingerprint sensor, but for those that might have trouble, if you can find a way to show the insides while you are connected it, that would help. I work with electronics, so for me, it was PERFECT!!!! I am just thinking of others that it would help!!! Keep it up! These phones are SO expensive anymore and are going to the "Gorilla Glass" for the backs, IMO is absolutely stupid! They could completely make the bakc out of Titanium or similar and put the exact same finish using paint and save people a great deal of possible problems. Best wishes, Steven

Why not use a fine bead of clear silicone sealer instead of tape that would keep it waterproof ?

Ip68 is a feature, in case of IF the phone ever gets wet it wil survive, now you 900 euros pocket pc wont even survive that because of removal of the back plate, well most waterproof phones DO have removable backcovers, so yes

Great video... I have a S8 with both front and back glass replacements, so the info was very helpful. I also do 3D printing and have a heated bed, sooooooooo guess what I used for heat to soften the adhesive???? That's right, set the bed to 85° C and waited about 5-10 minutes..... perfect..........Thanks............

I got SO LUCKY the sensor cable just detached itself without breaking off...

@@applebl3ach nope. If you get a repair, Sprint and Asurion say it's not guaranteed to be water RESISTANT * (it was never water proof)

Use original proper and original seal.
Replacing my third back and my second screen. These phones are so fragile. When I had an iPhone I never broke the case or the screen.

Vladica once you crack the phone it isn’t waterproof. After the repair you can possibly make it water proof but I still don’t recommend to use the device in water again.
Would my carrier be able to tell if I did this with an oem part? Trying to avoid a damage fee when I turn mine in.

You can still make it waterproof if you use the right glue. Obviously the new glass out of the box won't be waterproof.

It's the ribbon power cable for the fingerprint sensor.
lmao mine broke cause I tried to take an off brand pop socket off that had way too strong adhesive, it was mu birthday and I'd gotten the phone second hand as a Christmas present 5 days prior, got it replaced at dog and bone and it wasn't even adhered that well and it shattered within a week
0:44 waterproof is being able to take it to all types of water such as salt water, however that’s not true. It’s actually water resistant which means it can resist fresh water, waterproofing has never been on smartphones.
How come on other videos the wire is already off and they didn't have to pop it off like you did?
The other videos pre open and take the phone apart so its easy to do. This was taken apart on camera like it really would.

could you be more specific? looks like you used 1& 2mm tape am i right?
It looks like he is using 1/16 of an inch so you may have to order that on amazon. Look for 2 sided craft tape 1/16 of an inch and you should get some options.

If the phone falls again would the back glass replacement open up or the tape makes sure its perfectly sealed
Magdalena Moreno the tape more or less return it to factory but it still would not be waterproof. So it will survive a fall and stay on.

I did this repair using a hairdryer to get the adhesive heated and weakened so hairdryer works fine for this.

Has anyone started a class action suit over this high dollar piece of junk? Mine broke first time falling from top of night stand into the open drawer below (maybe 1 foot.) Paid the $200 ins deductible to get a replacement. With about 2 weeks that one was broken from basically carrying it in my pocket. Now I'm on my 3rd replacement back and IT it broken.
Not to mention that it is no longer water proof after repair. This is BS, these phone cost way too much money for such piss poor quality.
This Space For Rent I feel you, my screen cracked and they charged me only $29 then I drove an hour to their repair shop but they said they couldn't fix it because the back glass was cracked so I contacted my insurance and they wanted to charge me $170!!!! Just to fix the back glass so I canceled my insurance plan.

If you buy one of these phones you should spend and extra 100 on everything to keep it safe. IE Nice PROTECTIVE Case., Screen cover and or Liquid glass screen protector. I have dont the liquid glass and case and have had my phone for 14 months and nothing has broken after numerous drops.
Never had any issues with mine. Had it since day one and just cracked it yesterday after falling hard on some tile. That's 2 years of use without a problem. You just need to treat your expensive stuff like it's expensive.
Dunno how you keep breaking yours but mine has been dropped countless times. I've dropped it many times on nights out onto concrete from hand height so like 4ft maybe? There are scratches and scuff around the edges but front and back glass are still fine

I bought one and it cracked after gently handling it the first day. It's been 4 days and the entire back is destroyed. What a piece of shit.
