Shaq had enough years of practice and success to go along with it. Practice is for everyone, but it's players that attend practices and never achieve championships or success
@@trevinhickman9022 shaq is one of the most successful underachievers the game has ever seen. he could've been the GOAT if he worked out even a little. that's the disappointing thing.
@@be4st856 I don't see how he can be viewed as an underachiever, he had 4 NBA titles. His conditioning was not the best sure, but he achieved a considerable amount of success
@hickman9022 he's not an underachiever relative to us, a basketball player or even a hall of fame player. He's an underachiever considering his potential and talent.
The current science confirms that stretching before exercise is not necessary. And the importance of rest for players who play a lot of minutes during the season is understood now, especially for 7 footers who put more stress on their joints like Shaq. So the irony is that AI and Shaq were right, and the expert opinion and old school coaching in the 90s was wrong.
Stretching prior to warm ups is actually dangerous. Warming up is important. Don't just jump into sprints. Walk around a bit, get your heart rate up, THEN hit the sprints. Stretching? Only positive effect it has is help get your heart rate up, same as walking or light shoot-around. Stretching has no other benefit, and has risks because it can cause small tears in the muscle fibers that don't have a chance to heal before gametime. The ONLY good time to do stretching is AFTER the game - when your goal is to break up muscle scar tissues and generate blood flow to clear away lactic acids to aid in the recovery process.
@@jakestine4753 I didn't know about stretching afterwards. It sounds like it makes sense, and I do feel a little better when I stretch after exercising. Thanks!
Iverson man that dude broke every mold. Single handedly got the Sixers to the Finals. In HS he was an all state QB too and unlike Bryce Young I believe homeboy could have handled the NFL punishment. Also Shaq, btw this podcast is up there with the Kelce's, was absolutely unstoppable force of nature and if Riley said that the powers that be should take his coaching/GM card away and burn it.
That was just his impact as an athlete: elite athleticism. His social impact was wild too, he is the one that brought all that tats, style and swag we got today in bball. I would argue in all sports...
He is incredible. But I still regret his career was not better. He has himself to blame. Poor discipline and bad advice. He's clearly so much more mature and wise now.
Media don’t wanna tell kids to not practice. Kids need to know, if you’re Shaq or AI, recovery is more important. If you’re everyone else, you better be at practice. When your star gets double/triple teamed and they kick it to you, you better hit that shot
I never had a problem with his rant at the time. Guy played every game and put up 30 points on a regular basis. His attendance in practice was between him and his coach. If only superstars today made it a priority to be on the floor as much as he was. I don't care what they do in practice.
Shaq over there takin up 2 couch cushions while the other dude is as sprawled out as can be still only takes up one lol. We need to have Shaq sized furniture everywhere he goes and have regular sized humans sit on those next to him. It would be hilarious to see everyone else's legs dangle and not touch the floor
Let them do it and these GMs, and Coaches will have literally slaving for your Million Dollars Worth of Fame. I don't blame Shaq or A.I. for their decision.
@@AwnPoynt - specifically static stretching does help with flexibility but studies have shown that it can weaken muscles and are more prone to injury. However if you don’t do any stretching (dynamic or otherwise) and just warm up, you will usually be fine

Shaq's point was the exercise and off season work to get shredded would have shotened his already limited career. 7ft tall humans put a lot of wear and tear on their bodies and rest is the only way to repair some of it.
