I study Hapkido right now and I really do think that this style is very practical. Hapkido is very effective system. I think that you are a very excellent Hapkido instructor.
If you are into practical hapkido. Grnmaster Phil peplinski. At u.s. tae kwon do n practical hapkido. In seffner Florida. Offers great n practical concepts. Look up some of the stuff on you tube. Under Phil peplinski. Enjoy. Keep on training
The object in training is to start out with compliant opponents working on the skills to perfect the technique then as the student progresses apply real world resistance, speed and strength to the technique. I explain to my students that these techniques are like legos. And you assemble them depending on what your opponent gives you. This is your battle plan. You practice until it becomes muscle memory and you don’t have to think about it, you just react. This combined with punching, kicking and ground fighting will make you a better fighter. The bonus to this is the techniques. You don’t need to be a person of large stature or tremendous strength, it definitely doesn’t hurt to have those qualities but just about anyone can do this. If one cannot perform a certain technique there are thousands of techniques that you can choose from and add to your toolbox. 2nd Dan
Anything could not work "in the streets" , but I have used similar techniques in real life situations, ( with adjustments) i.e. strike first, then joint lock etc. worked out fine. Anytime you add firearms and blades to the mix, unarmed is uncertain at best. If you doubt the validity of the techniques, go to a military hapkido seminar in South Korea. Those instructors are the truth.
The one thing that bothered me is how many of these moves ended up needlessly sitting on the ground with the attacker. Makes it difficult to disengage and deal with a second attacker.
If the attacker will not comply with pain of the lock, is the next step following through with joint and/or limb destruction? I see this in the art as worst case scenario
Hapkido for Peace ✌️ thanks for the reply. I have a lot of convo about this when people play down the effectiveness. As my dad taught me, hapkido is brutal lol
There are options in this situation, we have “modifications “ to the techniques. Adding a foot stomp, elbow, pressure point strike (sensitive target strike) or something similar can help. You could move into your plan b technique to gain compliance or you could go for the destruction. That would depend on the situation and the fighter and what kind of a threat he or she is experiencing. If you’re dealing with a drunk co-worker at a party it’s probably best not to cripple him/her. If you’re attacked by a gang in a back alley you might want to do the most damage with each attacker. You will have to decide depending upon your senario. If you’re not in a 3rd world country you should probably be thinking about what would be considered excessive force to keep you from going to jail if there is that possibility.
I spent 6 months in a rehab center in Mexico, all the Hapkido techniques work against other martial arts I practiced. I had to face oponents in a very small hallway. And always came out unscratched. The techniques are fast and lethal. Choon Do Ryu School.

Hapkido and Aikdo both came from Japanese Aiki Jujitsu. Hapkido is a more realistic self defense and has more kicks and strikes as well as joint locks and throws.
Yes , I have been studying Hapkido since 2017. You can joint opponents and throw them into another. Hapkido has many kicks and these woukd be very useful against multiple attackers.
Pat McCaffery Yes, probably only the chickens and I don’t need them anyway.lol In fact, I have never caused any injury to no one as long as I remember of almost 30 years of teaching. If you ever have a chance to meet me in person then you would know what I am talking about, Peace. ✌️

This shite wouldn't work in a street fight and most likely help.the assailant coming out on top.in a bad way. Kata forms will get you seriously disabled and or killed in a street fight. As the late Bruce Lee said his defense was his offense. I will stick with with Bruce's no form philosophy because it has always worked out for in the few fights I have been in on the streets. My no form techniques have proved a life saver for me over any form of Karate. Proved that to an idiot cop that thought he could use isshin-ryu to subdue me. They say Isshin-ryu works in real fight situations but nah it's useless as any competition sport Martial arts. As this form of defense would too. The body has be consider as a weapon as a whole. To live through a street you have to render your assailant useless. I have not had to use more than one to three modes to take a person down by KO.

Why traditional martial arts don't work in real life? Because they always train with compliant opponents. No realistic resistance or dynamic counters.

Very nice. I appreciate the guy in the grey at 0:24, he really gets into it o7

we have no hapkidojo in our province, so we'd have to learn it from such videos (cheaper anyway).
That can be done, make sure to pay close attention to everything hand, body and footwork. Best of luck in your martial art journey. 2nd Dan
