    This homemade compost sifter is still some work to remove the lumps from our own manure compost but not near as much as when Glen was sifting it by hand.
    It took the two of us about 2 hours to sift and move this pile of compost into the garden.
    Thanks for watching.

    Genius piece of equipment to get the job done! It looks like a A.T. Ferrel fanning mill we used to screen oats and barley through. When Glen pulled up with that bucket load of soil, I thought...Oh boy, that will be a test if he dumps the whole bucket load on it. Better patent it guys!

    Very cool! Love the resourcefulness here on so many levels. Do you just let the big chunks age some more?

      Hey Marc! We could make a new pile of those bigger pieces but we have so much cow manure that we will just start over next spring.
      It’s a great excuse to clean the corrals!

      @@TheCowEmporium Hahaha makes sense. I wonder if you ran it through a mulcher before aging it would end up more fluffy.

      Awesome! Glen was thinking of doing a video to explain the different ways to cause the vibration. If you are building one probably the easiest way to get the shaking would be with a sawzall (reciprocating saw).

Loved the end , when Glenn is down sifting through his fine work, you two did great!!! Getti g to old to hand sift🤦🤦🤣🤣🤣 Boy I know that feeling!! Great job you two!! It is working pretty well so far. We have sifted enough for 1/4 of our big garden.
      If we spend another half a day at it we should have enough.

    Oh that's nice! I wish I knew how to do that. Do you have a video on how to put something like this together for a novice? I am really interested on how you attach a motor to shake the thing.

    • @TheCowEmporium
      @TheCowEmporium  5 місяців тому

      The motor part was a lot more complicated and expensive than it needed to be.
      If I did it again I would mount a reciprocating saw to the frame with hose clamps and fasten a strip of metal where the blade goes and attach that to the screen to make it go back and forth.
      The saw has a adjustment for speed (most varieties).

    • @TheCowEmporium
      @TheCowEmporium  Рік тому

      Thank you! We sure can tilt the tray a little more, that would help moving those flatter pieces of compost down.
