OEM Look Double Din Head Unit Install in an OBS Ford

  • I install a Double din head unit into a 95 F150 OBS Ford and make it look OEM like it came from the factory that way where a single din was all that was available for these OBS Ford trucks and make it not look aftermarket.
I use a couple of Ford trim pieces and fiberglass them into a double DIN opening so that I can install the Atoto F7 head unit I got for it, but I want it to look factory

Getting ready to do the same job and glad I watched this. I was going to cut the dash pad square and extend the top of the bezel but sinking it into the dash pad looks much more professional. Also have some high quality vinyl to cover the pad and it will be easy because most of the surface will be flat and don't have to stretch it into the corners. Original formula Gorilla glue is great for cracks in the pad since it stays flexible. Should cost under $100 and looks better than the $700+ kits shown on UA-cam and don't have to wait 5 months for it. Thanks for this video.

I recently saw a video where he had cut the dash square, it liiks fine but sinking it into the dash pad I think looks more like how Ford may have done it if there was an option for a double din, also I like the idea of covering it with the vinyl, I probably will do that myself, just a suggestion though, put a nice padding under the vinyl, it will give a bit more of a high end finish. Hay send me a pic or 2 of the finished product, aintscaredgarage@gmail.com ,Heycheck out East Coast OBS Ford facebook group facebook.com/groups/3628172440747341 I'm trying to get something started over on our side of the country

@@AintScaredGarage Thanks, I'll check out that group and send you some pics when it's done. I was just going to re-do the pad and bought a cracked up dash pad from ebay for $30 to experiment and did my own repairs using Gorilla glue, sanding it down and covered with vinyl using contact cement but getting it to stretch into the inside corners was tough but everything else was perfect. No padding needed, just over the original surface. Then I started looking into din kits and it's either that crappy plastic panel you can buy for $40 that goes over the pad or spend $700 for a custom bezel and custom pad and I want a nice truck but don't want to piss away all that money when I think I can do it for under $100 and have some fun doing it and doing it your way removes the problem of stretching the vinyl into any inside corners.
I was just looking for plastic/vinyl spray paint for the bezel and Diupli-Color and SEM have a few variations of RED. My interior is code 'R' which is Ruby red. Would you happen to know which of their colors match the closest to the Ruby?

I’ve been eyeing up several OBS crew cab F350s. With my 3 kids, we don’t have much play money so it’s nice to watch some videos to scratch the itch. All your videos are great to watch. Thanks

Well thanks, and thats the thing, I dont have a pile of money ether, but you can still get these trucks reasonable, but I have noticed, they are starting to disappear in the junk yards, so now is time for one as they are going up in value, theirs a big interest in them, as far as this video, there is a company that you can send the doner parts to and they will make this bezel for you from 100 - 300 dollars depending on what you actually buy from them, but I cant afford that, so I made my own LOL, Welcome to the channel

Man I had a 93' 250 XLT 7.3 that I wanted to do a lot of this kind of work to but had to end up selling it when I moved from AZ to MD 3 years ago. I just found a 94 F150 that I'm definitely gonna buy and use your videos for troubleshooting/Modification ideas. I'm so glad I found your channel keep up the awesome videos and work!!!

Easily your coolest mod yet! I think the bezel would look great in red to go with the rest of the interior!

Just stumbled on this while seeing what’s new in the OBS Fseries world (just got my old farm truck running the other day and dug out my trail/mud truck so looking to see if things have changed in the 8 years since I’ve meddled with these old trucks). Really nice work, will be checking out your other videos.

Love it! I would love to put a double din in my 96 bronco. Ive never worked with fiberglass so i wont go that route. I love watching you work on your ol truck. Its looking great. ❤

Well thanks, Fiberglass isn't that hard, but you just get one of those kits, or if you willing to spend a little for it there is a company that makes this, you have to supply the donor parts and it's a little pricey, around 100 buck's www.obsinteriors.com/product-page/91-97-f-series-bronco-double-din-kit

HA Love this ...Ain't Scared... you have something i want and do not have the skill to create like you did.. what i would pay $$$ for is for that bezel you created to be 3d printable. I have a 1994 F150 that i am also looking to upgrade to a double din with back up camera...I liked the previous version i saw until i saw this.. I want this instead.

Dude. I keep watching your videos. You're a nice guy and seem to love doing this stuff. I have to say some of it pains me to my heart. You want it to look stock. Good thing. You've got a carpet on your dash instead of fixing it. Antithetical to the idea of stock, and it would have covered at least part of the aftermarket kit. That said, I like your idea better. And then you go and cut the plastic with a rusty, bent butter knife. I know, tools are expensive. But do it once and do it right, guy. Now, to be honest, I haven't watched past the part where you pulled out the rusty hacksaw blade and began to ghetto rig it. I'm hoping for a good outcome. I may do the same someday in my 95 Bronco. Right now, I've got a pioneer flip out screen...because I also hate the aftermarket bracket kit. Lol😅😅😅

Ha Ha Ha, yes I can do things a bit goofy, I did grab a good hacksaw later and then a dremel thats on its last legs, BUT, I did fix the dash pad, but I dont like that expanse of plastic that is the rest of the dash, so anyway, Thanks, I'm glad you get a kick out my goofiness, you know I always say, YOU should do it the right way, LOL

Which ATOTO did you install? I have a 1994 F-150 that I'd like to upgrade its stereo. Enjoy watching your mods n find them helpful.

The F7 but it uses the Linux OS and that limits you on what you can do with it from your phone, the S8 uses the Android OS and unlocks a bunch more futures, I'm eventually going to put the F7 in Mom's car and get an S8 for the truck
