fr i cant believe im saying this but did he have a redemption arc? like we got his backstory and everything and all the stuff at the initiation you can kinda see why he is the way he is. not that im excusing his actions in anyway i still think what he did was despicable.
Truly loved seeing the growth of August as a character. Truly a very well-written antagonist that really brings in that hate-love relationship for the audience. Malter did a phenomenal job!

@Miss.Simone-Smiles Yeah, I'm aware of that. I think though that liking a character doesn't always have to be about liking the actions the character takes. Sometimes people assume that I agree with his actions when they find out he's my favorite. I'm not the only one who has him as a favorite either, haha. I find his backstory interesting. He's a sidelined person in the royal family to start with, which makes me intrigued. His dad has committed suicide and he's clearly not coping well. He's developed what's pretty obviously an eating disorder, he's become addicted to drugs to cope with the stress of trying to live up to his dad's image and the classist society he's a part of. He's also got the added on grief of the loss of Erik. Then his cousin comes around, and I can imagine that must be tough. He's not even a real royal and is trying so hard to follow the rules of the society he's been placed in, and his young cousin arrives and just refuses to play by the rules. He sees what to him must be a big privilege, Wille being crown prince, being squandered (I dont necessarily agree). And that's just season one! All of that makes him super interesting to me. Plus, he winds up doing something completely messed up, and I'm someone who likes to explore why that kind of thing happens. During the first episode, when he first appeared, all I knew about the show was that a prince falls in love with another student who is a different class. I thought for sure August would walk in on them kissing and tell all the students or something. He totally outed them, but it was how he did it that subverted my expectations and made me go, "okay this is different. This one's gonna be my fave" Also, in season two, I think he becomes even more interesting when he finds himself having romantic feelings for Sara. New layer to the character. Also, like I mentioned, Malte is just a superb actor. His ability to emote is so so good! And that makes me like the character even more. He's do haughty and full of himself, but there are times when we see him stressed, anxious, panicked, afraid, angry, in love. I really like how he portrays all of them, especially with this character.

August isn’t my personal favourite character, but he is certainly the character that makes me want to keep watching. (except for the romance between Wilhelm and Simone of course!) He’s made some poor choices, but without those choices the show wouldn’t be the same. As you stated, his backstory is very full on, and there’s a lot of strings attached. I believe that August is a very important character to the show, and I definitely understand why people, such as yourself, find him somewhat fascinating, making him your favourite character.

Must remember that these are actors in doing their job portraying a fictional character. I'm sure Mr Gardinger is a kind loving,sweet cuddly person. But like everyone,, I can't wait to see him fight for the throne... And may the best Royal win !

I feel like I’m the only person who really wanted August to somehow feel better this season. I know filming and then releasing such an intimate video is a pretty awful thing to do. But, like Wilhelm doesn’t need to treat him like absolute crap all the time. And I was really hoping for Sara to get back with August. They both love each other. I don’t think August’s releasing the video should keep them apart. Like, they actually love each other. And August just really needs someone on his side. And I just think Felice really needed to calm down. It is not like Sara was evil. She never intentionally hurts someone. Oh and Wilhelm threatening August with the gun was really messed up. Everybody in this show needs therapy. I feel like if I was Simon, I would not want to be with Wilhelm if he pointed a rifle at someone and threatened to kill them if they didn’t tell him who told him about Simon wanting to go to the police. I honestly just think a lot of crazy stuff is going on. I’m not even sure that I am rooting for Wilhelm and Simon at this point. There are just so many things that seem to be going wrong for them. And Wilhelm saying that he was in the video? That was a lot. I just felt like he never should have made the statement that he wasn’t in the video and he never should have said he was in the video. I wish he never said anything. If only the woman from the royal court would have called August sooner about helping his financial situation because Wille had her look into it. Maybe then, he wouldn’t have posted the video. Maybe then, he would have deleted it and kept quiet about what he saw. Maybe then August and Wilhelm could have had a good relationship. But I mean that is the whole story of the show isn’t it (the video getting out)? Anyways, I’ll say it again, everyone needs therapy. These are just random thoughts that came to me right now. Sorry if I went all over the place.
