    This is the best Linux video of the year.
    I'm a 22 year unix vet and am not interested in the sensational garbage. Your video is practical and to the point, sure if won't attract many users but you'll get there.

    Great video - I am now a subscriber! Fedora 38 now finally includes the Flathub repository for flatpaks, so Fedora 38 is even better with Silverblue.

    Great video! While I don't use Silverblue, the topic is interesting for Steamdeck useres too. After all SteamOS is also immutable.

    The real question isn't really how to make Linux run the games, but how to make the installer from a certain girl, who's rather fit, work. As far as I am aware, windows is needed to decompress them (but one decompressed it should work fine)

    • @MumblingHugo
      @MumblingHugo  2 роки тому +6

      Haha, nice reference, that girl worked for spider man and sekiro, I ended up using the installer from the other famous but larger repacker which has 2 D's in the name to install RDR2

    The nix package manager is very useful for installing cli binaries as well. It supports both userwide and systemwide package installation.

    02:55 Can you elaborate, WSL is by no means immutable nor container dependent. Regarding games, the situation is a hit or miss, most of the time games work, but they might have terrible performance or visual glitches. Cracked games and their installers are also another issue, I tried a few games a year ago and once installed on windows and run via wine they worked but the installer itself did not work. Of course, out of all the games I've tried, let's say I've tried roughly 10 games, ranging from 2019 to 1996 (quake and heretic) about 7-8 worked, about 5 of them had some sort of issue, either visual or total crash when doing something specific, and about 2 required to be installed on windows but ran fine after.

      Darn it, how can you be the first couple of comments whenever I publish a new video? Thank you!
      1. It is better (for me) that toolbox supports gui app out of the box (WSL couldn't do it 2 years ago when I last used it, I bet it can now given how long they have already worked on it), and toolbox is defaulting to the same user path, which is awesome
      2. Have not experienced any glitch yet, been playing spider-man half way through all the main missions (around 5-6 hours of gameplay maybe), walked through the first misson and started second one on RDR2.
      3. I think legal games also have hit and miss issues. Like how I can't play Assassin's Creed on regata OS while was able to run it on pure opensuse, IMO it's just a general characteristic for Linux gaming in the current stage. I'm not a crazy gamer trying out 1996 games, I'm just happy to see all the ones I wanted to play are working.
      And happy holidays.

    do you install the game via bottles using proton/GEproton or wine/GEwine or Lutris, if so did you change any setting in Bottle/lutris after installing or used the default Bottle/Lutris setting

    • @MumblingHugo
      @MumblingHugo  2 роки тому

      I used bottles to install games with kron4ek wine then change the runner to GE wine to play them, need to set up dotnet and vcredit also.

    All AMD hardware laptop/pc have easier time on Linux due to it being open source drivers, AMD firmware is closed source until 2026 when they switch to open source.

      thank you, as long as you have your data properly backup, you can always switch back. If you want to try a Immutable system, I'd suggest using Vanilla, if you are new, Linux Mint (if you don't have cutting edge hardware). Silverblue can be a bit advance for people

    Could you post links to the games you showed in the video?
    I just switched to Fedora 40, and loving it! My goal is to install Silverblue on my test laptop and experiment with it there, taking notes, and evaluate if it could take over my regular Fedora 40 for a daily driver.
