I was sort of surprised myself. And shocked at my own shock that I would doubt this would happen. A lovely surprise. This is a well composed podcast. Thank you, Arcanvm.
dr. skinner your work is remarkable, I'm so glad that i persevered in this subject matter for 50 years, there is so much that is clear now, and i would like to thank you
Great Interview... Dr Skinner's encyclopaedic knowledge of Eastern and Western magical themes & key personalities is intriguing. Noted the nod to author the late Colin Wilson whose book The Occult stimulated my interest. Must have been some party…
I so appreciated the deep dive on preparation around cleansing and consecration. A few of my random conversations with spirits, they complain about how we stink to them. Swine, I believe was the words used. Im also appreciative for stating that being clean and pure is up for debate in certain domains.
He contradicted himself when he said the spirits don’t need clouds and clouds of smoke to manifest (but instead are attracted by specific scents). In another video of his I just watched, he said the spirits need the physical matter in the air (ie. smoke/incense) to help them manifest on the material plane because it is difficult for them.
I’m glad that Dr. Skinner confirmed that yes, it’s the OTO’s fault that his edition of Book 4 isn’t sold on Amazon in the US. Speaking of, is there a preferred place to buy it here in the States?
Would you ask Dr Skinner whether he would consider discussing his relationship with Nevill Drury, and how their paths diverged after publication of their co-authored "The Search For Abraxas". I know that Nevill became interested in shamanism rather than the Western Magical Tradition. Did this cause a rift or did they remain close? Also, did they cooperate on research?
Awesome! I've purchased many of this gentlemans books. I actually see spirits-ghosts quite frequently, the same for UFOs. Almost daily with the UFO, and I've had some amazing interactions with this UFO, it is a more spiritual phenomenon or perhaps Aytheric is the right word than beings from another planet in the typical understanding. I do Invocations quite often calling the Higher Intelligences into my sphere, for years however. My life has been quite amazing in that manner, however unamazing it is financially, etc. Haha. Sounds incredible I'm sure, but it is the Truth. I'm getting prepared to engage in Goetia, and just because i have these mysterious experiences I'm not expecting immediate results, but I am sure I will have them eventually. I shall see!
While I respect Dr. Skinner, my personal experience is that conviction is only what is necessary for magic, from having practiced many different modalities and received results. He may couch his certainty in a formalized ritual magick "science" of sorts, but there are plenty of people who create without appealing to any outside force, simply on their belief. In other words, in the same way people seek out organized religion to stabilize their worldview and belief system by conforming to community/tradition, I believe there is similarly an effort to obtain conviction by adhering to "tradition" for solo practitioners by "doing it right". Which is fine enough, not knocking it... but absolute statements are more evident of his conviction rather than the actual Truth. The real Truth is we are reality itself, and that is why we have the authority/ability to command in conformation to intent and expectation.
While I understand your point, your comment is *also* an absolute statement/certainty couched in an appeal to experience; essentially an argument of irreproachable subjectivity. I agree with some aspects of your basic premise, however.
We can shape our reality a bit, I guess, but the spirits take it to a whole new level. They can bring change as they are not in our realm. Yes, they can't become material, but they bring the full effect and can change people, etc. So I get people saying, "Oh, the manifesting things work," yeah, to an extent, and it can take months, even years, depending on what you manifest. While you can use a spirit, he will get you there much quicker and work on your behalf. Fuck all the people that say magick is in your head cause it's not you people are just trying to act like you are the creator
Well, you can read grimoires and use the spirits to cause people to be seduced by you. 1. Grimoire Verum. Use Joseph H. Peterson and Jake Stratton-Kent. 2. Goetia from Stephen Skinner and Joseph H. Peterson. 3. Secrets of Solomon. The list can go on and on; just use the books from Joseph H. Peterson, David Rankine, Jake Stratton-Kent, Arundell Overman, etc. Or you can use The Gallery of Magick; they have seduction techniques there. I think the book is called seduction
14:00 But people have had success with eclectic Goetic practices. I've had success evoking with Hekate instead of Michael & Yahweh. Edit: You could also work with Hermes.
The origins of goetic practice are actually necromancy and Hekate was one of the goddess associated with sorcery, crossroads and necromancy. The solomonic mythology was only developed later on in the middle ages.
I'm so excited you're interviewing Dr. Skinner! He's one of my favorite academic and practicing magickal writers. ✨

@@arcanvmWe are reality itself and by that virtue these experiences are possible in the conscious mind of one who knows it.
Dr Skinner wants to practice by "doing it right" but not when it comes to shaving his beard.

Mine too
I'm a huge fan of Dr. Skinner. Does anyone know why he doesn't like the Kaballah? I can't figure it out.
What you mean? Did he say that or are you assuming because he hasn't put out any material on qabalah yet?
Can anyone tell me the type of incense he talked about? Thank you🙏🏻
