- Meet Heatwave: the newest free plugin from Slate Digital.
Heatwave is a fast, effective, and free way to add grit and aggressiveness to almost any sound while preserving its original transients. A minimal but inspiring interface dominated by a single control to “add heat” to the sound. The plugin employs multiple techniques to preserve and even exaggerate transients through a complex use of transient shaping, saturation, compression, and EQ.
Join Slate Digital's VP of Product Chad Carrier for a walkthrough of this exciting new plugin to see how it can bring the heat to your latest track.
Heatwave is available for FREE DOWNLOAD right now. Go get it here: slatedigital.c...
Slate always blessing us with free stuff. This is fire. 🔥🔥🤲🏾🤲🏾
Hah, Chad, nice to meet you again :D cheers from Jarek! Stumbled across this plugin and then saw you presenting!
1:07 "By default it does nothing"
Yes it does. It changes the dynamics. Just look at the input and output level differrence.
haha true
I'm always shocked watching videos of literally "experts", or people who should be, and they completely ignore gain matching. I mean, +-1dB is fine, but >4dB ?
Thanks for the great video! I love your passion, Chad! Definitely gonna get this one :)
Sounds great, it just needs a 'Blend' knob/slider for parallel processing, also a High Pass Side-Chain knob/slider to stop low ferquencies from being over-saturated.
Maybe a paid version with these additional features?
Forgive me if I am wrong, but can I put this on an AUX track and just send it to a track and adjust the volume to simulate a "blend" knob? I am new to mixing and would like to know if my theory is right or wrong. Would the blend knob just remove that step altogether making it more convenient?
@@cbd_miso You are correct :)
great video, massive difference in sounds and your natural reactions tells all about these vsts
Really cool! I'm going to try this once it's downloaded...let's see how it goes with electronic music.
By the way, it's strange that there's no button to activate the gain matching feature permanently. I guess that not every user will watch this video, if it's not present in the VSTs settings, I guess that not many will find that out :-)
1:43 man 77-76 felt perfect where it had this satisfying "mouth sound" 😵
Great video Chad!
Great plugin I must say, but as claimed here I dont see in any way this is a multi band saturator, as there is no individual control over the frequency bands/spectrum, would gave been great to have control over that, and yes what Shynawkward said is absolutely right too. Great stuff as always Steven and the team.
Steven had nothing to do with this. Slate Digital was sold about 18 months to SSL/Audiotonix. The only products he still owns and develops are VSX, Raven, Trigger at this point are under Steven Slate Audio. Different company. Cheers
Oops I`m so sorry did not know that
Yellow Fang, you explained it very well.
No cap those drums go hard
I have been using the plugin for a while, until I discovered that it is a CPU eater. If you use it in more than 1 instance, check the plugin CPU consumption, you will realize that uses even til 10 times more than other plugins. Hopefully a new version of the VST fixes this problem because it is good as effect.
Excellent, Thanks for the quick tutorial.
Great video and tutorial Chad! My question is, why wasn't this built inside VMR?
Just add a mix knob and auto-gain control.
Sounds good...
This video made me smile :)
Glad to hear that!
I haven't really seen anyone asking about this, but is the clipping stage a soft or hard clipper, or a shape in between?
Would be nice if the install button actually worked
Look, if you want to give the plugin away, give it away. If you want to sell it, sell it. But dont give it away for free, then make users go through a 47 step signup / licensing process just to use the damn thing. WTF?
I didn't find a button to get the plugin, it was all about the introduction screen
I didnt either. I installed it from the slate digital connect
The link is in the description.
Please no more one knob saturators ^^
Made everything more personable with detaik
Would be easier to hear the effect it has if you used demo material that doesn't already have heavy saturation baked in.
I think there is a use for this but in this example it is too much, it will get fatiguing on the ear.
So this works something like Slate Tape. Should I use Heatwave instead of Tape plugin now?
It works the same, but it sounds much different. Pick the one that sounds best on the song you're working on. OR..... use them both!
Very cool! Thank you 🙏
Thank you for this!
very good very nice
the plugin sounds great, but the one-knob format really limits the capabilities, some control over the under the hood processes would be great, like a dry/wet mix knob for each of the bands in the multiband processes, or mid-side capabilities. this would let you drive it harder without cluttering the mix as much.
but really i hope to see plugin companies drop this one-knob format for plugins with complex processes like this one claims to be, as this just seems to be a plugin for marketing, to be forgotten about and dropped.
but hey its free, so cant complain that much
Looking goood!
escalator vibes
how is that free. you guys are true rockstars!
MOst of the times the transients are reduced with saturation, here the transients are processed better if not gain listen"ability".
Ilok? Nah I'm good. Looks interesting though.
did anyone else get a bit scared when he leans in? Love the energy
what guitar plugin is used here?
Manny Pacquiao work for Slate now???
It would be nice if the link worked. Just says loading.....
🤩🤩💯💯💯💯
ive installed this but your damn ilok license manager wont work so what the hell do i do?
Niceeeee!!!
I am confused and hopefully you can help me. I installed the Heatwave. When I went to use it it aske for User ID and pass word. As I recall I have the ID but don't recall having a password. So what I did was chose Forgot my password. An email was sent to me with my email and 2 ID's. So I tried putting my email and one of the ID's. That didn't work. So I put both ID's in the 2 spaces. WRONG. Where Did I go wrong?
don't know if this is still a problem for you, but I'm sure the ID you mean is iLok and not SlateDigital, those are two separate entities.. I recommend 1:you either figure out your ID's or 2:make a new iLok ID and just link heatwave to it.
I have only one think to say: iLok...
I can't even open this shit but still fire🔥🔥🔥
Hit up our support team if you're having any issues with the plugin, they'll help you out!
fye
I remember when they gave away a few other plugin in the past for free (fresh air as example). I recently canceled my subscription to slate and they took away fresh air with that. So why bother downloading this it will probably just get taken away also.
I have fresh air and im not subscribed
They took it away because I turned off my subscription is what I am saying... out of spite@@Smowkdragon

Nice demonstration, thanks for free plugin, but for this particular example I would use these plugins on drums only (they really added a life), but other instruments were sitting nice and smooth without them already.
i got some free stuff, but in my account all desapear, idk why!
Too much frequency response shift , when staked up the mix loses balance , the bypassed mix is more balanced ! Great on bass and guitar nevertheless
but whats the catch here? these plugins cant be made without cost and effort, why do you give it for free?
Not bad at all...but I do think he over did it for this demonstration. Thanks!
Anyone using Slate plugins for metal? I feel like most content is aimed at pop/rap/electronic music producers. If you want to see Heatwave on some metal music…ua-cam.com/video/zZSbnl8pilY/v-deo.htmlsi=gTarJ2kRYd0jNHQl
This is awesome!! Love to see this being used for metal
