The second movement of this concerto (in my opinion) is a dialogue between two lovers, with absolute, pure, untainted, heartful love to each other. And, this version, thanks to the conductor, filled my heart with the true joy of love.
The 2nd movement is used as incidental score for some scenes of the Peter Weir's movie ''Picnic at Hanging Rock'', especially when two young lovers share scene.
I was about to click off this suggested video from some unknown orchestra and soloist but after hearing a few notes it sounded right and nice. The orchestra accompanied the piano excellently, melding together in unison as if like brothers. The pianist treated this composition as a piece of art, free of the annoying overboard pomposity as usually interpreted by others. There are no dynamic struggles nor timing lag between the orchestra and the piano. The orchestra is not overbearing too. It truly embellishes the piano and not just tag along. The synergy here is strong and without arrogance. Finally, Beethoven concerto #5 is played right, by both the orchestra and the pianist. Bravo !!
Agreed. Quite amazing on all ends. I will say though- Frankfurt RS is pretty high up there in popularity. Aimard is more niche, but very important in the industry. Friends with Ligeti, many Ligeti's etudes were written for Aimard or under his guidance. And his Bach WTC is top 10! He's a force to be reckoned with.
Frankfurt Symphony…one of the very best orchestras…certainly a now familiar and (so reliable for no interruptions of the performances)😊…I have come “to know some of musicians…thanks to the wonderful videographer “…the Beethoven #5 piano concerto is always a balm for my spirit……no matter how many times I’ve listened to it…✨
Un incomparable concerto, qu'on ne se lasse jamais d'entendre et qui nous transmet sa beauté et son énergie. I like how this conductor leads his orchestra, sobre and yet efficiently. Salutations depuis Montréal.
So enjoyable to hear the laser-like clarity of every note, phrase, and the connection between soloist and orchestra. This is the cleanest PC 5 I think I've ever heard from both soloist and orchestra. I really wish I could have heard it live. Many thanks to the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Afkham, and brilliant pianist Aimard!
Best Emperor, one of the best piano performances ever heard. This is the pianist. I am so grateful we human kind have Maestro Aimard. Thank you so much for the video.
Thank you, thank you very much hr-Sinfonieorchester, for uploading the complete concerts, do not know how grateful I am, very few orchestras upload the complete videos to UA-cam, and even rarer when it comes to top quality musicians, and this concert for me is very Special since it is my favorite, I used to believe that the Berlin Philharmonic was the best and they had no rivals, but you have changed my opinion!!
my believe is that many good orchestras like berliner or vienna have very similar performance skills, soloists and conductors are the key to a truly outstanding concert among others.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. One of my favorite Beethoven piece. Amazingly well played and great quality of both sound and video. Thanks hr-Sinfonieorchester.
5:42 - 8:53 From the main theme: From a sad loss To a hopeful opportunity to a Mystic Encounter to a Child Lullaby to Big Celebration to a Time of Studying and Progress to Wild Ride with a Horse to a Dreamy Walk in the Dark Woods to a Morning Awakening and finally back to main theme xD
Wow. Superb. Such a tight connection with pianist and orchestra. Perhaps the best Emperor I've heard.Absolute clarity in every note. In the first lock down here in Australia I listened over 5 nights to 5 different pianists playing this piece and at that time Hélène Grimaud with Paavo Järvi won my heart ~but a year later, Pierre-Laurent takes Gold. Couldn't help a funny thought ~ here's the Orchestra all dressed up, white bow ties and all, but a an dressed as the Plumber walks in and steals the show :)
Good point. It's nice to hear performance so clear, classical in taste and fantastic balanced, so you can notice many details which are mostly hidden in bombastic-romantic versions.
The music and this performance speaks for itself. Words of superlative that I may contribute would be entirely inadequate. Highest praise for pierre-Laurent Aimard and David Afkham.
A great performance - technically perfect, essential and intelligent (without pretentious tricks or sinnlos Streiche), emotionally nuanced, brilliant sense of ever-dynamic yet cohesive flow of tempi, resulting in a magnificent story - from the beginning to the end. Thank you!
I am surprised in positive way, that Mr. Aimard, whom I know especially from XXth century repertoire, is playing Beethoven with such a deep understanding of this piece, including sound aspects of piano from the beginning of XIXth century familiar to composer himself.
Great performance! For enthusiasts of Beethoven's concertos, highly recommend Barenboim with Klemperer; the 5th ends with the Choral Fantasia sung by the John Aldis choir--which is very rare.
@@wingcap1448 No, not necessary. It was supposed to be a joke. There are many young female pianists, and there are always plenty of comments on their physical looks. My comment is not meant to derogate this excellent artist in any way.

Quite a sophisticated performance of this eternal masterwork without superfluous romanticism. But it is still Beethoven!

There is only one brand of concert pianos as far I can see,on the main scenes. This remains me of the standardition of 50/60Hz grid.
