- Today, we check out the Sony Barvia 9 at the Sony Road show event in NYC. We are looking at two demos being held by Sony's Eric G, which will show the need for higher peak brightness as well as the local dimming of the Sony Bravia 9.
Special thanks to Sony for having me at the New York City roadshow and for Eric G. and Carlos for their presentation. Special thanks to Sony's team, Jack, Yukio, Miguel, Lauren , Matt , Andrew, and Jackie.
You can pre-order the Bravia 9 at our good friends at Value Electronics valueelectroni... or call them directly at 914 723 3344 and ask for Robert or Wendy and please mention Brian at BRIAN'S TECH THERAPY.

Our Sony BRAVIA 9 is scheduled to arrive Friday, May 17th and no later than Monday, May 20th. Also starting the week of May 20th we'll start shipping Nationwide all of our BRAVIA 9 orders.
I'm already there brother!!
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Brian will be banging on the door with a camera in hand come Friday morning, ha ha. And the rest of us eagerly waiting for the stream/footage.
FOMO TOO LOL@@Canuck-1976
@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Brain, it's 17th are you there
Value Electronics always for the win.
Bought tvs for over 10 years there.
I'm pretty sure this is the one for me. Keep the Bravia 9 content coming. so excited.
Probably the most interesting TV of 2024. Let the comparisons begin!
There is no comparisons every year. Sony is the best you’re wasting your time either go with the best or go with the less
@@Alambe727 lol sup fanboy. To each their own. Enjoy the motion blur with Sony lmfao
Hi Brian. I cancelled my pre-order for the 75” BRAVIA 9 and reordered, because Sony decided to put a £500 cash back offer on the TV, outside my order window!
That £500 partially paid for the TV unit, I’ve had to buy to put it on😂
Thank you, Brian. I was deciding between the G4 and the B9. I’m decided to go with the Bravia n9 85 inch’s and the Bravia8 77 inches I feel that Sony is more reliable than the other competitors and Sony’s reputation speak for itself. Thank you, Brian.
Even the 85 X90L I have is fantastic for most content as you'll be streaming which means compression. The xr clear processor gives you so much to love here. Just buy that 85" for $2000 and be so happy and immersed(Atmos sound bar system required for full immersion)until streaming services catch up with better quality and OLED and mini led become much cheaper. Trust me! I really couldn't believe how amazing new but mostly the old content looked with far less noise or motion blur and mostly good contrast and color. Thank me later for saving thousands and loving your theater system. X90L! HTA-5000 with sub and rears.
Very informative video, many thanks🙏🏻. No 55 and 65 in uk and Europe is an aberration. Please someone at Sony with common sense to reverse such a bad decision. Please!!
Yeah totally agree bud. Would like an explanation here.
Unfortunately the company is run by idiots and people who work for them are afraid to speak up Morita would turn in his grave of what has happened to this once great company, so Europe has. Smaller houses so we give them tv that is too big that is what the fools that is running this company do so people chose another brand cause their executives have brain's
I got the 85in B7 and it’s been amazing! I can only imagine what the B9 looks like!
Well, you can always ask LG
Are you able to test the S-center channel sync feature? Previous year TVs had static noises that resulted from this feature. Has this been addressed?
How did you already get the Bravia 7!? Won't be available in the US until June!?
@@claykeough7898What are you talking about it? It's been released for like 2 weeks already. You can order from Best Buy, Sony, Value Electronics. The B9 is the one that hasn't released yet.
@@claykeough7898 Best Buy has the Bravia 7 right now. They are releasing the B9 next week.
Would love to see the Bravia 9 next to the A95L !!!
You will see that as soon as it releases my friend.
Unless you need to be blinded by the brightness I predict it won't even be close. A95L will blow it away. Personally I'm loving the SERIOUS price drops on those "old" A80Ls I'm seeing and it looks like I will get a great deal on one of those in a few months. A 65" SONY A80L OLED for LESS than $1800? Or maybe an A75L for less than $1500?
@@steveludwig4200 Depends. Many folks prefer the 'film' look of LED over OLED.
Higher brightness is more for HDR content and TVs in well-lit rooms.
@@steveludwig4200Oh there will be scenes blowing the A95L away it’s about HDR impact actually feeling it
The what? The film look of led? Lol. You don't want to see the a95l against the bravia 9 unless your goal is to put the bravia 9 in its place. This is marketing. There are other decent tvs out there that are leds. It's just an led, and will not come close to comparing to a high end oled.
Not to mention all of sonys quirks and bugs they have..Hopefully they're fixed this year. That and there is probably more 8k content than 4000 nit content. And I wonder how it'll do in game mode. Can't do 144hz. Grey letterbox bars? Blooming subtitles? Or have they crushed enough blacks to suppress the blooming..
If I'm sacrificing that much I'm going with the 4k240hz qn900d that'll upscale everything to 8k. At least that's something I can talk myself into
But go ahead and pay oled prices for a bravia 9..meanwhile sony probably has a gen 3 qd oled ready to take over the world as soon as this nonsense 4k nit marketing push is finished.
Paying 5k for an led when the g4 exists is just crazy. It is very bright.
Can't wait but still really want to see your full review of the Bravia 7
Very informative review with great illustrations of backlight and gradient control. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Bravia 7 vs Bravia 9 comparison would be nice to see if the extra money is worth it for the Bravia 9.
This
Brian, curious about your first impressions comparing the B9 to the B7, given that you've seen both!
@BRIAN'S TECH THERAPY Its always joy to watch your videos, you are totally different from another guys who are in this work about TV tech....i was always OLED guy but this one got me mesmerised and i really want one but i will wait a little bit more to see side by side with some OLEDs, i suppose you will do side by side comparision with LG G4, S95D, until then i wish you all the best and keep up the great work :)
Bout to order mine. Hype!
It's amazing!
Brian if the Bravia 7 performs as good as the X95L then I'm getting the Bravia 7 the Bravia 9 price is not justified in my opinion. Also I'm still deciding between the New 65" TCL QM851 & the Sony Bravia 7. FOMO reviewed the TCL QM851 today and it seems that Black Crush was fixed.
X95L baby ! Can't go wrong
If u can make more content on the bravia 7, that'd be nice
I am looking forward to seeing this TV at MWAVE! See you there Brian!
Looks great Brian... glad to see you bringing us all this great content... sorry just caught the vid... we will be landing in new york this weekend for wifes 50th... keep up the great work bro...!!
We'd love to see the Bravia 7 & 9 vs X95L. None of this will prove anything until we see it.
My Man Brian whats up Brotha.... So I finally upgraded.. and made it to the Heavyweight Division Lol... Picked up a Perfect Condition 85" QN90B!! Zero DSE super clean Panel.. Will be wall mounting Soon. I must concur with you my Friend... Size/immersion is indeed the #1 Upgrade (coming from 75" X950G) Very HAPPY so Far with the performance.
Hi Brian, thanks for all your content, just to let you know I finally purchased a 83G4, managed to get a very good deal here in the UK with a good price with discount and very good 0% interest price plan, just need to find a buyer for my 77CX, I just need to wait on a in-stock or delivery date, I'm just hoping the extra 6inchs makes a difference, I was finding 90-100inch whether it be mini led or oled was just too expensive for high quality top tier panel and brand, so I was hearing very very good feedback with G4 and the deal on offer was just too irresistible to not buy one.
Bravia 9 vs G4 is the ringside event this year Brian!!
Which one is better??
I love my x950g and am waiting for more of the Bravia 9 reviews to make a decision on buying. For me after having a C6 and B7 OLED both get burn in I’m apprehensive to buy OLED for my needs.
Its kinda ridiculous to say that the number of zones doesn't matter. Of course it matters. Thats why every year we see an increase, and blooming suppression is improved. You can't have perfect blacks with 2000 zones... Also which model are they comparing Bravia 9 to? Last year's flagship TV or this year's?
He said what he said 👏🏽👏🏽
Is the 85" 9 $2000 better than the 7. Thanks for doing this. Hope you bring these to MWAVE. Ill see you there.
In Germany the different (official price) is Bravia 9 85“ 5.000€, Bravia7 85“ 3.800€
And LG G4 83“, official price 8.699€!!
I saw few retailers floating €8,7k price but it’s like with scalpers 😂 Real LG retailers are having pre-orders at €6 400 before any discounts. This is realistic, rest is bullsh…😊
Or the Bravia 8 against the A95L would be interesting to 🤔
Yes. And I also want to see B8 vs G4!
Bravia 8 used LG OLED panels , same panels as LG C4/C4 models
The Bravia 8 compared to the A80L would be more appropriate since it’s the replacement for the less than 83” version.
Question. I have the A80L which I love. While watching the Disney app I noticed they are one of the few that have to Dolby vision and imax enhanced. What are your settings for motion and clarity for watching higher end videos?
This thing needs safety warnings because it's so bright! 😎
Can't allow myself to me too excited because this year I need a 55in & the B9 doesn't have a 55in this year 😢
Bravia 7 will be coming with a 55in! That will be a comparable tv to 2023 X95L that wasnt available under 85 in the US
The B9 won't though.
Yeah I could live with the step down version even though I'm sure it's great.
Cool video Brian. I can’t wait to see what this TV can do. So the Bravia 9, thanks to its amazing light control and peak brightness, should in theory show a wider dynamic range (HDR) of colors and gradients than any existing consumer display with less aggressive tone mapping-kudos to Sony for pushing the technology beyond its current limitations. Now, I’ve seen some demos where the SONY A95L QD-OLED would clip some gradients in order to push its brightness but only in 4,000 nits content. I didn’t see it here so maybe Sony is being working on a fix, especially in Dolby Vision where it tends to clip more often.
Sony learned from the Apple hype machine…Still haven’t heard anyone say anything negative about this TV other than price; not sure if it’s because an embargo or what but, people keep repeating Sony’s talking points…That should tell you something…
I love the B7-9 for what i’ve seen now. But are they worth the sacrifice?
I mean the Hisens e TCL are doing rly good things at half prices.
The Sony A95L was pretty close to the Bravia 9’s gradation, that combined with infinite contrast, I’m still in favour with the QD OLed
The brightest QD OLED can't hit more than 1600 nits in HDR, but the reason you'll buy a QD OLED or an OLED isn't the brightness alone, it's the overall picture quality 😉. Now this Bravia 9 TV is great but how about the blooming in challenging dark scenes? Will it be able to handle that department like a QD OLED or an OLED in general??
it’s a non issue with blooming. it’s interesting how people are arguing still about blooming and saying it will bloom like an onion when most of this video content they are showing are black backgrounds, showing off how much of a break through the local dimming is and these high brightness and color vibrancy testing scenes . Brian i hope you keep showing these dark performance scenes, mixed with high color volume and brightness images. you always hit it right on the head with content and breaking it down! Keep it up!
Cool, I'll definitely be there this friday. I randomly stopped by today but Robert was out. Hope to meet you too.
I really want to see a Z9K and Bravia 9 comparison 🤔
... what about blooming, as there is none on oled TVs ...?
It will have blooming. It is impossible for any mini LED to not have blooming. I don't mind blooming. If blooming is a deal breaker then look at oled. You need pixel level control and self emmesive technology for no blooming. My room is dark and i still prefer a bright LED tv so blooming will be more apparent.
People who complain about blooming at this point are really just pixel peeping. The nerd in them are doing this because at the back of their head, the said phenomenon doesn't happen in an alternate technology.
@@williammaverickHave you ever seen a TV that has no blooming?
... well, everybody has got his own demands and priorities regarding PQ, as I have been very happily living with an oled these past years and only watch films/episodes in the dark, and know myself quite well, I am sure I wouldn't accept any unnecessary blooming, hence my question ...
But to be honest, I already knew the answer, as there is no way a multi thousand backlight zones lcd can compete with the, by analogy, 8 294 400 backlight zones any oled can boast ...
The latest and trendy trick lcd makers use so that blooming is barely visible, is to considerably diminish brightness on scenes where the dreaded blooming will otherwise show, which in effect kills the brighness advantage lcd TVs still have compared with oled TVs ...
@@williammaverick ... the said people, who are no nerds, have got eyes and a good eyesight, and they have the right not to stand any trace of blooming, PQ wise, simply because said blooming doesn't exist in real life, and solely is the by product of backlight technology, with or without mini leds ...
Hopefully, everyone can buy any kind of technology that pleases his taste, and can behappy that blooming "enhances" the PQ of what he is watching ...
review the 85 size pls
Mr. Brian, I'm going to go out on a limb And say that the Sony Bravia TV 9 will be 📺 of the year, whether its OLED or LCD 🖥. It will definitely be the best Mini LED 🖥 to date. Watch Samsung, TCL, Hisense and others step up their Mini LED game for the 2025 📺 lineup!!
Hey B would you switch from OLED to this Bravia 9?.😊
So the MiniLED competitor is not the Samsung QN90 or QN95? Because neither of those have more zones than the B9 at 65" or brighter. Only QM851g etc would be brighter etc.
A samsung qn95c has 1344 zones at 65 vs the b9 at 65 with 1512 zones.
Last year X95L defeat Samsung, TCL and Hisense with much less zones (see review of HDTV test). Imagine with processing power and more zones than their competitor, this tv probably more like OLED-like tv with Godly brightness
I haven’t been this excited for a while in buying a new tv! This seems like new technology that I will truly enjoy and not just incremental year over year minor improvements. I’m so glad it’s just not OLED that gets the all the love this year!
Epic intro. I love it!
So glad you enjoyed!
Look forward to the A95l vs B9 vid will there be a shock
I love that Sony was basically tired of people saying that their processing was just marketing spiel so they made a marketing spiel proving that their processing is in fact superior😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Are you going to be showing the retail demo mode content only?
Big question is what is the bravia 9 like when it comes to gaming no mention of gaming vs Qd and MLA vs pixel response and infinite contrast and gaming features input lag , 144hz not one mention of any of that .
Sony are still stuck in the stoneage with 120hz. Dont care about pc gamers
Lg G4 is still going to be your best bet for gaming.
Doesnt the Sony Z9 series already hitting 4000 nits? And are there still going to be a Master Series going forward?
It is a master series
Sony Z9 is an 8k Tv and power hungry. And the price that most costumer can't buy
@@NexGenTek So the Bravia 9 is Master Series? Sorry just trying to verify.

does it mean that with 4000 nits peak brightness the 9 does not require any form of DTM up to 4000 nits? thinking HDR games on next game consoles, this could be beneficial…any thoughts?
Yes, normally on a oled tv there is clipping lost of detail because its not bright enough to show very bright hdr highlights. Since this tv was made for 4k nit content it can show you all the details and color in 4k nit just like the director intented.
@@vcam-g9h not realy. The B9 is more a 3000nit tv but thanks tonits greater prozessing and tonemapping it can show nearly all details from 4knit content

None yet, but unlike 8k, 4000 nit mastering monitors are starting to be used by film studios, so it’s just a matter of time.
Thanks Brian
Sony is focusing on versatility and quality over overpriced and limited as most OLED is. OLED looks best in certain settings but are twice the price for a big screen in a failing economy. I'd rather the mini led that focuses on motion, color and upscaling with all the compressed streaming!! You'll just be happier and have less of that buyers remorse until OLED becomes bigger, better and more affordable. Most people just aren't going to buy a 6000 dollar 77 inch for a little bit better contrast next to a very well functioning and bright 85" led for 3500 or less. Their wives wouldn't let them anyway 😂
I don't think it will be better than OLED. Its competition is mini LED like he showed it next to another LED flagship. If Sony thought it could be top OLED they would have priced it at OLED level. I'm pretty sure to purchase the G4 this year but I'm really thrilled how close this TV will get to OLED. I think it is not better or worse, it is just another kind of experience and a different target group...
I think the people who are purchasing the B9 don't care if it's "better" than OLED. It's for people who like the reliability, longevity, and peace of mind of having a television that will never burn-in.
If you watch Brian's comparison of the A95L and X95L, they traded blows. The difference was so minimal in real world viewing that many in the comments preferred the X95L for the larger size and superior brightness.
@@logicwins3492 Exactly, like I said, different target groups. I love highlights, also in dark areas where OLED is really strong. I almost never watch in a very bright environment and didn't get burn in with my 11 year old Samsung Plasma TV. I think it is because I have a job, a wife and kids. Best burn-in protection there is... 😅

saaaame
The green shaded box looked very washed out on the bravia 9 compared to the other Oled's next to it
Actually all the colored shaded boxes looked better on the oleds
the camera was clipping. this is one of those things you'll have to see in person.
It's because it is brighter. This always happen when a TV is brighter than the rest the camera cannot handle the range.
How useful is 4000nits be when my oppo 4k player maxes 1600nits?
It’s not 4000 nits full screen brightness. Think HDR mastered up to 4000 nits for bright highlights. It might be another year before we start seeing 4k discs mastered to HDR 4000, as Sony just released the new 4000 nit mastering monitor for film studios recently. You will want to upgrade your tv & disc player eventually to get the full effect of the HDR 4000 discs.
Can't wait
I'm just waiting to see a honest comparison
Going try stay up for this one,,,😂
Let's go !!! :)
Tell those amazing people, that Bravia 9 is a true monster💜
I just don’t get this obsession with TV brightness, most TVs are bright enough for majority of users.
9's arrive today. You are supposed to be on the way over. Desperate for first preliminary review tonight!!!
A ' flagship' needs a 55" !!
Looks like blooming is basically a non issue for the Bravia 9 and it can still maintain brightness appropriately, color vibrancy and the detail at the same time.
Which basically means it's better than any big OLED TV out there. A first for a Mini LED.
@@Ren32 And yet Sony used Mini LED over "top performing OLED" for their flagship model in 2024. Hmm I wonder why. Should I believe Sony or a random guy saying otherwise probably just because he invested on an overpriced OLED? LOL. Sure you'll find blooming on it but that's really just pixel peeping. When you're immersed and watching content most people if not all wouldn't notice such miniscule difference. Sony is being smart this time around and they weigh in everything before putting out stuff, especially for their flagships.
@@Ren32 You missed the point. No one said blooming was eliminated. Sony reached a point where it's finally a NON ISSUE. He never said it was eliminated. You'll see blooming but that's pixel peeping rather than actually watching the whole image and immersing in it.
@@Ren32The Bravia 9 is master series the naming convention changed this year obviously and no the Bravia 9 doesn’t bloom at all Sonys new backlight technology is insane! Rtings literally shows the X95L virtually has no blooming or haloing and this has 300% more zones and granular control over the lighting. It will rival Oled and surpass in HDR!
For people that doesn't like blooming it will be an issue.
Lol +4000 euro and only 2 hdmi 2.1. What a disgrace.

I truly believe that Mini LEDS Displays Technology which 📺 uses a backlighting system LCD 20+ years old Television 📺 Display Technology.
All backlighting system Televisions 📺 Technology Displays can not compete with the Newer and fresher Television Displays Technology which is Micro Leds Television Technology that blows away every other Displays Technology right now and into the future of the individual self-lit pixels elements in the Micro Leds Television 📺 Displays Technology. No backlighting system Television Displays Technology can beat the Micro Leds Displays Technology which is truly better than the QD-Oled or the WRGB Oled Organic Material Products degradation Television Displays Technology which is currently available right now because I truly believe that current QD-Oled or WRGB Oled Display Technology is cheating the current customers who buy the QD-Oled or the WRGB Oled Organic Material Televisions Displays Technology 📺 for real!
That is like saying a combustion engine car cannot compete with an electrical car.
We know the electrical car is faster off the line. But the combustion engine has far higher top speed. A koenigsegg vs Tesla Plaid S etc.
Combustion engine is the old tech here vs the new electrical cars. Although electrical engine isn't new. But in this analogy it is for viability and use in cars.
Horrible stand placement.
Should have had no bezel.
Unacceptable at this price point.
There’s basically no bezel and 3 different options for leg placement stop crying
Bravia 9 >>>>>> all OLEDS
Does it have the Response Time of Oled. Or the same Viewing Angles? I bet they use a VA Panel with near black smearing.
The Sony rep did not disclose peak nits for Bravia 9. My prediction is 3,000 nits with the ability to tone map up to 4,000. The question then is whether the Bravia 9 is good enough to justify its significantly higher price than the 2024 QM8 and U9N. The 2024 QM8 looked pretty impressive in Fomo's comparison.
Bravia 9 has me so intrigued. Probably my next tv.
woooord
If I buy a tv for $3,000+ I sure as heck won't be watching my favorite hd and 4k movies streamed, I'll watch them on a blu-ray player that lets me take advantage of the TV's inherent picture quality. We're talking about 4k titles streaming at usually less than 20 mbps, while blu ray plays same titles up to about 100 mbps for 4k.
How would the 85 Bravia 9 be against the A95L 77 ?hm the 85 Bravia 9 is even cheaper than the A95L 77 🤧😂 the 85 Bravia 9 is now 4789.90€ in vienna 😅
Brian, THIS IS A REMARKABLE AND EDUCATIONAL VIDEO. Thank you!!! I now understand nits, gradation, zones. It is not the size or brightness but how you use it. I no longer think that the Bravia 9/4000 nits will be too bright for my Caribbean living room - but ideal. THANKS TO ERIC and the rest of the Sony team. 4,000 nits! Brian, that's ridiculous!
I’m waiting until the end of the year to scoop up either a 83 G4 or a 85 Bravia 9. Any thoughts?
Those are my same choices. Going to wait till the pros measure them up and then I'll make my choice. Patience is key but it will definitely be one or the other for me.
I’m with you as well. But lately leaning more and more towards G4.
Would really like a direct comparison with A95L please
I pre ordered the 85" but i am scared of the screen lottery 😳
Don't be afraid, my friend . Sony's quality control is very good, especially at the larger sizes.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Brian thank you for your video. Any ideas if SONY uses the same display panels across all the size of the B9 this year? I hope they dont replicate the strategy used in x95K & x95L

Does anyone know if the 85" bravia 9 has toslink optical digital output? I have SONOS and want to hook it up
Looks promising. My only wish is for a size that is larger than 90" as LG G4 97" is way too expansive.
No 55" option and no 65" version available in the UK makes this an automatic non starter for me. I struggle to rationalise the decision not to offer 65" in the UK where homes are generally smaller....
Also would be cool to know if they will offer smaller screen sizes next year perhaps even monitors?
Looking forward to seeing side-by-side with the G4 regardless, especially with PC gaming..
It was the exact opposite last year with the X95L because we didn't get the 65" or 75" in the U.S. I might have gotten a 65" had it been available. I do plan on getting the 65" Bravia 9 if it is truly better than the Z9D when it comes to local dimming.:)
Sony is daft when it cones to UK choices
Does the Bravia 7 come with the film on the screen?
I bought the Bravia 7, but it doesn't seem to be bright enough.
Any advice?
Thank you
Yeah , return it and get the 9
I like the F1 analogy but is this a Haas or a Ferrari?
Is sony planing a release of an 8k mini led tv?
The Z9L released in Japan but was a rebadge of the Z9k. I doubt we will see another 8k Sony for awhile

Great video as usual. The demonstrator explanations convinced me, its not just about power but the control of the power of the TV. Sony appear to have nailed it with the Bravia 9. Its a pity about the lack of 55 and 65 inch TVs in UK, that is illogical and assuming I could afford to purchase a 55 or 65 they would get my custom. Without those sizes I have to look elsewhere. Shame.
