The Ukrainians don’t deserve this. Things were more than grim in 1941. The Nazis occupied almost the whole of Europe. Things were desperate for the Brits. In the end things turned around and the Nazis were defeated.
The Russian economy is collapsing. The Russian army is unhappy, complaining and deserting. Syria has blown up. The war is unsustainable for Russia.

He failed twice to "take it" using his stooge Yanukovych, and twice thwarted by popular uprisings. He invaded Crimea and the Donbas to put a permanent block on Ukraine joining NATO. So yes, in late 2021 thinking the West weakened and distracted by Covid, with Zelensky as an unpopular President and with his advisors whispering "3 days" in his ear, he woke up one morning and launched the SMO. yes it took weeks of planning and preparation and threats that Ukraine would cease to exist if he didn't get what he wanted, which was for Ukraine to cease to exist....

In death I love you still.
