One isn't better than the other, they're both talented in their own unique way.
I see a lot of people comparing voices here. You can only rates someone's voice by technical skill to a point then it just becomes their own unique style. I make a point not to compare voices or instruments it just doesn't make any sense. Maiya has an AMAZING voice period.
I like Haley, but Maiya is the queen of vocals. There must always be one. Etta James is doing her thang in heaven now, and Maiya reigns.

Her voice/talent/stage presence can not be argued. She is a superstar, and I would bet that she will make a mark. That said, I think this performance suffers from "over-ornamentation." She puts it all out there in the first verse. 'Smarter to play by the ground rules at first, and then blow the roof off at the end. The ending, as fantastic as it was, was no surprise. She had already demonstrated everything that she can do. 'Still love her, though! (OK -- bring on the haters...)

I think this version knocks Haley's out of the ballpark. Seems like an unpopular opinion and I do like probably two of Haley's songs on PMJ but she's never come close to any of Maiya's songs for me.
I just don't understand why she is doing haley's version of this?
It's a popular PMJ song (Scott's arrangement) and Haley hasn't performed w/ PMJ for a while. Many PMJ singers have sung it, even Casey

Good voice and a powerful version undoubtedly, but too wild and extravagant for me to fully enjoy. I felt the meaning got lost in the runs and flourishes which went over the top. It puts me in mind of quite a lot of Gospel singing. The runs and embellishments are overdone and go on and on, losing their effectiveness. Certainly different from Haley's although more like hers than Radiohead's and similar interpretations.
