I still have my 2012 Purple Yelli. I just rode it after years away from riding. It’s still relevant after 12 years. I love it!
This is why I love this channel; informative, entertaining, and honest reviews.....and the bonus: Hardtails. I personally just ride for Fun first and foremost, physical fitness, and the challenge of riding natural terrain.
Sounds good. Me too. No racing. I remember backpacking the 1st time I saw a bike in the woods many years ago and thought they have to focus all attention on the line & they're missing the nature. They were shredding downhill at the time. Back then I thought why. Now I get it and want one! Still ain't racing though
I’ve been on mine now for a few months, and yeah, you’re spot on with the review. Absolutely rips. Thanks for the work.
Great review. This is my next hardtail. Recently purchased the Revel Ranger, which uses the Canfield rear suspension. Great company Canfield.
Canfield suspension and canfield bikes are different companies. They're brothers, but they decided to split up due to creative differences in how to grow the business
I just built a ragley Marley and a Nukeproof scout. I put the advent X drivetrain on both. Lots of Steve’s influence here! I bought the shifters and derailleurs from the US, but could only find the cassettes in the UK. So hard to find parts…
I got me the Nimble 9 and I love it. Your review on it convinced me that it was the bike for me. Thanks Steve and keep up the good work.
Love mine! You said everything I expected! Thanks for the bike consultation on it! Your not lying this thing is goat climbing!
I’ve been waiting for this review to drop. Great job as always! I have a Nimble 9 and it’s a great bike, but this one is very interesting. Definitely not a fan of the frame shape aesthetics, but it sounds awesome in every other way. Not looking at the frame while I’m riding it anyway…
Have been so excited for this review…bike is a leading candidate for my first new hardtail in 20 years! Will have to jump on your patreon to pick your brain. Thanks for being awesome!
Great insights! Love the versatility of this bike!
Late to the party but I’ve got a medium frame coming in the mail!! I was a little hesitant to hear an honest opinion but when that honest opinion uses words like fun, playful and jumpy I am so stoked with my decision. It’ll be sad seeing my 2016 Mason Pro go but damn am I excited to get this build going! Thank you as always for your content and keep up the amazing work!
Love mine! I’ve had it for a few weeks now. Thanks for the review!
I freaking love the name of this bike lol. "Yelli Screamy, is a brilliant name for a hard tail.
100% agree
I was contemplating this bike, but didn't see any reviews on it and hesitated to order it. After watching this video, I fee that I should had pre-ordered it. Maybe I can get it later on when things aren't as scarce.
Nice review just built up same exact frame as a do it all have fun go shred and dont worry machine. Be a great bike to take when need to do a little of everything.
This bike looks SOOOOO GOOD!
Great review!
But man that's a frame only a mother could love.
Love the purple 💜
Thank you for the great content 🙏
After watching this review and all the reviews on your Binary Maniak, I chose to pull the trigger on this frame. The geo is perfect for me in size large. While I wished I had used your patreon option for consultation (note: all others should take advantage of your awesome service.) The bike is perfect!
Glad to hear you're loving it
I would love love love to be able to afford that beauty! I would love to see a review on the San Quentin, Ragley Piglet and Blue Pig, and Dartmoor. Your channel is the best
Im running a 2.6 Rekon on my XL Yelli on ibis send wheelset i35 rims, jus gotta let some pressure out and it drops in.
If it's half the fun as my Mmmbop, i'm gonna like this Canfield Y.S.! Can't wait to build one! Thanks for the detailed review!
Great review! I’m looking to build up a SS and torn between this frame, the specialized fuse, chameleon and niner air.
What did you go with??
Fantastic riding another great review...
Great to see the yelli back - I bought a first generation one when there was nothing else like this. Then I tried their carbon EPO with more modern geometry - was smitten and bought one immediately, despite the price. Still riding the EPO today, but would be interested to try a new yelli
I took the exact same journey... I loved each bike. The Yelli was a bit small for me as they had run out of larges. But still, the medium (in that Lime Green that they had) was an awesome ride. Don't have either today, but I do miss that Yelli.
I watched this review after finishing my Yelli build. I’ve only taken it out around the block, hopped some curbs and dropped some concrete stairs but you articulated my early thoughts - this thing just wants to “go”. I think some 2.6 tire models with “smaller teeth” might fit in the rear triangle… may try that later in the season. Wheel lateral stiffness may come into play when laying down the watts 🤔
I currently have 2.6 trail bosses on 40mm rims on my yelli, i had to cut down the shoulder knobs a bit to get clearance, which is still not a ton but works.
Loved the vid are you able to do a review on the new bottom of the line Kona honzo with its new head tube angle ?? Haven't seen a good review yet and no videos of riding
Beautiful bike.
Your comments on the Nimble9 definitely resonated with me, the relatively steep HTA with long fork feels like it's kinda got an identity crisis. It's a great frame, but on a steep decent it feels less confident inspiring in comparison to how my Big Al frame rode.
Overall, how was you Big Al?
@@edritchie270 I really liked it, it's a great bike. I mainly swapped to the Nimble9 frame because of the sliding dropouts. Overall I think I prefer the Big Al's for my riding & thinking to swap back to it.
@@ssmtb I just built a Big Al and I think it's amazing. Def one of my fav hard tails I've ridden.
@@ssmtb That is actually another bike I was looking at, the Nimble9.
@@Windband1 cool 🤙, I had mine for almost a year, it's great. Luckily I didn't sell my Big Al frame, so I can easily swap back to it
Sweet bike!
Hi, I like your channel. Thank you for all the info. Can you do a review of the Specialized Rockhopper expert please?
Currently looking to get my 2nd bike. Ist one was approx. 40 years. Doing research I find some things have changed ! 🤣
Oh man :-D you will be a little shocked, maybe, haha
Indeed, they've changed a TON
I need a roscoe 7 video!! I’m dieing to get a look at one in the wild lol 😂
See my Roscoe 9 vid and imagine different components and a different color
great video! are you by chance planning on reviewing the Polygon xtrada 7 anytime soon? that would be awesome.
Magnificent review! How does it feel climbing compared to your Banshee paradox V3? From what I see it is less flexible than Banshee.
I've long been a fan of Canfield's bikes and strongly considered this but ultimately ended up on a Pedalhead, would love to see you review one someday as I wonder how these two bikes compare.
I just got one in for review. Coming soon...
This company is so shady! Order a in stock bike to be told its actually not in stock. Wait over 4 weeks past the initial delay which was 3-4weeks! Two months go by with no phone call with an update so I had to cancel my order. You thought it couldn't get worse, just wait! After getting the run around from "Lance" himself on my refund on a bike they never shipped, I ended up having to file a claim with my card company! What a shame on these guys! Buy any other brand but SCAMFIELD!
I like this bike but I’m struggling to really like it. I’ve had it for couple months now, I get the BMX fun and playfulness but it’s also a bit on the twitchy side and not as stable as my Titus Fireline (w/150mm fork) understandably. It just doesn’t give me much confidence heading into the rough which makes me think I should’ve sized up from medium to a large (I’m 5’9”). I recently bumped the travel from 130 to 140 and moved the seat all the way back, hopefully I can get this bike feeling good enough to keep 👍

Solid reviews, as always. I'm curious though… you began to bring up "the Big Question" in the vid, but never really put out an answer. YS or Chameleon? Particularly running 27.5+ ?
It depends
Revisiting this since the Bird hardtail review - which of the two would get the nod for you, Steve? Yelli or Bird?

RSD Sergeant V4 alloy feels lighter than it is too. I’d love to throw a leg over one.
Great, informative video as usual. Noticed the new Lazer helmet - did you give up on finding a new (prev.model) Specialized Ambush?
I'm always searching for the best fitting helmet i can find. The laser has some really nice features, but the old ambush is still all time fave. No luck finding any.
Would be awesome to see more chromag reviews. So popular out west
Unfortunately chromag doesn't send bikes for review. I have a couple chromag reviews here on the channel.
When talking about steep seat tubes are you using any sort of position on the bike for where you place the seat front to back? A lot of bike fit guides start the knee over the pedal spindle with the crank at 3 o'clock. I haven't really had the chance to try any the newer bikes but I could imagine short cranks and a steep seat tube changing a lot of the old setup "rules". I know bike sizing and fit is different for every rider but a video how to set up for a modern riding position could be interesting.
Most of those "setup rules" are for road bikes IMO. When you're in the saddle for hours at a time it's really important. But for us MTBers who mostly just sit to climb there are other factors that are more important. That's why we're so focused on geo and STA etc. I would be willing to bet that 95% of MTBers have never even thought about whether their knee is over the pedal spindle.
Im gonna try and make it as supple as possible! onyx with berd spokes, cushcore and maybe a ti bar?
That'll go a long way to a smooth ride.
Hey, did it feel stiffer than the Big Al in your opinion?
Yes
@@hardtailparty Thanks
@@fengcarlos LOVE my Big Al!! Running a 150mm fork up here in the PNW. It shreds.
Which is better, a press fit or a threaded bottom bracket and why
Loving the content, what would you say is the least desirable hardtail you have reviewed on the channel?
The Marin El Roy. I could not make that bike work for me.
I'm curious. What was wrong with the Helm fork that came with the bike?
Yo, when are you going to ride a Knolly?
I've been trying to convince them to send me one for years, but no luck.
Can you review Dartmoor Primal 27.5 (Red Devil)?
Where do you live mate? I'm selling a Dartmoor Primal 29 in Oregon.
@@Windband1 I'm from Israel. If it's size s and you can ship to me I'm very interested
@@avatarmomik Sorry mate, it's a large.
Oh...just to say "Yelli Screamy."
Ha ha....you name brand guys.

WOOOOO
sizing questing i’m 5ft 5 inches should i get a small or medium?
have you made any videos on technical climbing technique? (also interested in understanding "modern riding" I took a quick look and didn't see any. I know I would be walking up those climbs
found one ua-cam.com/video/UYpRye6zrW0/v-deo.html
I do have a video on modern riding technique
HTA 65, Reach 397, STA 73, Would you recommend this for a 5'5" height rider? or is this too cramped? Or shoud I get a 420 reach? Hoping someone would reply.
Great review! Would you consider putting on a light 120 for like a step cast to get a lighter downcountry ish feel? Or is 130 a great balance.
The whole term "downcountry" is just causing more confusion than clarity. This is more of a shredder than a lightweight slack xc bike. While it'd be fine with a 120mm fork, it's still going to be a shredder that wants to go fast on black diamond trails.
@@hardtailparty haha yes it is, I see the term as just meaning a bike that is meant to be pedal’d, but still likes to get rowdy. I live in BC and am looking for a hard tail to complement my enduro. Your comment about how this would complement a enduro basically shoved me in the yelli direction. Being a bigger guy I’m thinking the 130 fork would be ideal for all around use and wouldn’t have massive trade offs on the climbing for a smaller travel fork.
Thank you for you review. I just have a question. Would you recommend this bike for Cross Country Marathon Events ? I m intending set up a hardtail to this kind of events. Best Regards , Ricardo , From Brazil.
No, see review.
Awesome review! I ride a revel rail and love the cbf suspension. Did you happen to get frame weight and/or build weight?
I usually try to post my bike weights on the first look video. I don't remember exact weight off the top of my head.
@@angrymountainbikershow3151 oh nice! I would love to see that build. I’m looking for another bike that’s lighter than my rail and would probably end up building one like how you are. Let us know how it turns out.

What size rear tire can this bad boy fit?
What length cranks do you run?
Great review, Steve! You definitely validated my bike decision: I considered the Yelli for its geometry and ability to run two bottles "in board," but ultimately went a different direction as I felt it might be too stiff for the type of all-day trailbike I was envisioning. Still, this bike is gonna make an awesome steed for a lot of people, and that parts spec at that price is legit!
What did you end up going with?
@@VincentNobel a Neuhaus Metalworks Solstice 29, based on Steve's review of the mullet version.
How do you like it compared to the Spot Rocker?
Very different bikes. That's the sort of thing i cover in my bike consultation service
Could you maybe make a review of a 2022 Voodoo Bizango Pro? :)
It seems an interesting bike but not a lot of quality reviews on it. And I'm really interested in your sincere opinion
Geo looks absolutely aweful and they don't even have reach measurements on their geo chart. I love that the bizango has heritage but it's extremely outdated. A 460mm seat tube on a medium is ludicrous
@@hardtailparty yeah I was quite disappointed with geo, but I bought it while I didnt have that much knowledge about it. Since bikes are really hard to get I thought it's an opportunity. Although bike still hasnt arrived i feel like I've made a pretty bad decision.
And I am a student and that was all of my budget 😐
What size cranks?

I much prefer the trps
how is it compared to Shimano ?

I'm about ready to buy one for my wife she's 5'6" and right between sizes. She it thinking a small. She rides a medium Yeti now which feels A slight big. What do you think on sizing?
The new model is bigger than the old model.
@@hardtailparty I'm buying it used it's a 2022
Been looking around for a hard tail for a while now, still trying to decide which one to get. Have you done a review on the canyon stoic 4? I’ve heard a lot of great things about that bike and would really appreciate your professional opinion on it! Thanks!
Nope, i haven't been able to get one in for review yet. They've been out of stock for over a year now
Canfield size LG are never in stock
What's the fork travel for this review?
That is a weird looking bike for sure.
First comment!!
I guess this is what people call function over any kind of form. Or the beholder's eye have serious myopia.
Riding a bike > looking at a bike
Haha, nothing worse than a saddle that feels like you are sitting on a softball.
