Katarina Talks about life as an athlete from East Germany, what the Olympics mean to her, and the "Katarina Witt Foundation"
Double Olympic champion figure skater Katarina Witt has urged
the young athletes of tomorrow to embrace the life lessons learned
from their coaches. “It really doesn’t matter if you win or lose - what you take from sport means so much to your life and your future.Sport changed my life and opened up so many opportunities.”
After her competitive career ended the German star established
the Katarina Witt Foundation in 2005 to help disabled children
with their mobility. And as a result of a proposal from last year’s
Doha GOALS Forum, Witt’s Foundation will become involved with
the funding of an initiative to provide prosthetics to disadvantaged
young athletes. “Even now, we are still athletes in our hearts and wecarry on in our lives with the same discipline and dedication that we had and used as sports people,” she explained.

Such a breath of fresh air when she was competing! Coming from where we in the UK thought at the time a grey and dismal country she was such a surprise. I still remember the 'battle of the Carmens' And THIS interview reinforces how inspiring she still is!

The woman is amazing. Most athletes don’t get to go to the Olympics once. She won twice and got back into good enough shape to qualify for a third time purely to share the experience with her family

Sie ist ganz sicher keine Diva. Sie ist so ein bodenständiger, immer (echt) freundlicher und unkomplizierter Mensch. Sie hat nichts aber auch gar nichts von einer Diva. Allerdings ist sie die beste Eiskunstläuferin, die Betonung liegt auf Kunst, die ich je gesehen habe.
