Loved our tune. Whenever you heard the theme tune come on at work we all stopped to listen. A room full of big burly men were mostly misty eyed after listening. Brings back great memories
waynester71 Very true, one day we are working and look ahead next we see there are more years behind us than ahead. we should cherish the time we have together with our health.
@waynester71. Where can I see the images of your motor loosewheels1000 mentions. I used to listen to this when I was young and I vividly remember something similar to it which was played early in the morning it was always on when my radio alarm clock came on, I’m pretty sure it was still Simon Bates and the stories were a little like a ghost story but for the life of me I can’t find it anywhere. Does that sound familiar to you or were they all scary drama haha
Oh my, this brings back so many memories for me as a youngster. Didn’t think much of it at the time, but now listening to it, I am washed over with nostalgia.
I suppose the same as everyone back then, the place where I worked came to a pause on the factory floor when our tune came, even the manager loved this, not sure what it was,but their was really something about this that made you listen, when radio 1 was really radio 1🤔🎼🎶🎶
I was working in a box making factory. We delayed our morning break so that we could listen in peace and quiet. Management was quite happy as long as the work got done!
Mum and Dad told me about this show and how it really made them feel grateful for what they have. I see why. It's a shame stuff like this doesn't "sell" nowadays. It's a real look into life.
i remember our tunes in the 80's, i would be at home relaxing with my cup of tea listening to it, i rarely missed an our tune, loved the theme music...so long ago now, it would be nice to have access to a full archive of the our tune broadcasts from back then.
sitting in the car in the afternoon waiting to pick the kids up from school. i would get there early just so i could listen to our tune in peace before i picked them up.oh the good old days.i long for them
Brave lady.i listened to our tune every day at work and some of them were so hard to listen too and so sad the music mad it worse but such a lovely piece of Music.made me tear up some days
you know something.....I used to listen to these...jezz....I was spellbound......did I cry or what......these recordings are a treasure that will never be erased...thank you sir for posting this.....and yes.....I still cry when I hear these recordings..
I remember listening to Mike Smitty Smith on Radio 1. When they announced he was leaving and Simon Mayo was taking over I was distraught because I thought Simon Bates was taking over. I was so happy listening to Simon Mayo on R1 &2 and I’ve been catching up on the confessions on Scala and Greatest Hits.
In 1991 my mate & I were 20 years old working in an electronics factory. We made an FM transmitter & due to the weak radio1 signal in the factory we were able to cut into our tune. As everyone in factory the got ready to listen to Our Tune my mate cut in and said "here's an old sad story " The factory erupted and only for the supervisor we were getting lynched 🤣 needless to say we never did it again.
Radio 1 was great back in the 80’s my older brother was a lorry driver and I remember going with him as a kid and listening to it. Used to love Our Tune I started work in 89 at a Ford dealer and would always stand out in the stores to listen in. How shit is radio now a days!!
So glad the baby arrived. Thank God. All these years after the story was broadcast, I hope mother and now grown-up kids are thriving. No feelings for the father.
Noel Edmonds, Tommy Vance, Annie Nightingale, Tony Blackburn!.....................great line up Radio 1 had in the '70s and '80s. How things have gone so wrong!
Went to London in summer 1990 to earn some money as I was studying electronics in college. Got a job in Kevlins, Bradmore Park Road, Hammersmith; fixing and refurbing Hoover washing machines and vacuums. Loved the job and the crew I worked with. A battered Hitachi radio-cassette in the workshop was permanently tuned to BBC R1 and I always listened to 'Our Tune' - hearing the background music and Simon's narration really brings back the memories of that summer job. Revisited the old workshop in 2017 and I recognised the building - now converted to high end apartments.
always used to listen to these stories working in a factory up in shotts...the radio was on all morning and afternoon until basically we all finished our work...miss that soo much, was a great place to work...MMMuMS Produts ltd...
Wow remember all these well back in 91 in the work warehouse and when assisting the lorry drivers with lifting at the other end, here it on the truck radio,,,,,51 now can’t believe years have flown
Wow just brings back memories for me, I could always remember the song but could never remember why or from what but now I remember ❤ I was young in my defence haha
I remember whilst working on building sites back in the day when this came on the radio all tools were downed and everyone listened. It was funny if someone wasn’t interested and carried on working they were truly scorned upon. Good days….
Our tune was like a mouth ulcer. I used to hate some of the stories, they were very often sad and some made me upset and angry , yet still had to listen to them. Just like keep poking a mouth ulcer with your tongue
Our Tune was great used to listen to radio 1 all day Simon Bates on Morning and Steve Wright on Afternoon I was on my gardening course then now I listen to radio 2 it has all the old djs on
Simon Bates was on Radio 1 from 1977 to October 1993, when of course, he 'resigned' because of the changes made by incoming controller Matthew Bannister and was then replaced by Simon Mayo at the time. However, although they kept the Golden Hour, Our Tune was not kept-what a shame though!!
Did this used to be on about 8am of a morning weekdays . I recall the music and listening to it in the back of the car on the way to school with my brothers
I remember my older brothers and father used to have Simon Bates on the radio in the 1980s when we would get up to go to school etc. As clear as yesterday I remember hearing Queen's Radio Gaga one cold dark Winter's morning. It was SO depressing. He used to have a segment where he would play sad music (found out here it's call OUR TUNE) and talk over it about a life of a listener etc. Wouldn't go back to those days for anything.
Very similiar to a peter kay car share episode story. 😂😂. Sad to hear about Steve Wright yesterday. Used to listen to this and steve Wright in the afternoon in the 80s.
My gran use to listen to this I was a wee boy that was plsying about but I always like the tune it was plsying as since she died in June in 2022 I've been looking up films songs my gran would listen too she also lived Anne get your gun and calamity Jane. Listened during art class aged 16 and we all fell silent lol....brings it back 😂x
NOPE, not misty eyed, laughing at the cheesinees, the stupidity of some of the letter writers, & especially the trite chosen "our tune" song
It would be great if this was brought back to TV or Radio 👍
Thumps up if you want this back !
Simon Bates class brilliant best DJ ever needs to come back on national radio please
Boom Radio every Sunday 2pm on Dab and internet
Used to listen to this in the late 80's early 90's at work, always on during our tea break.

Be great if they Brought it back but never find a replacement won't they
Yeah I agree 👍

Same here... with that background music too...takes me right back in time like im actually zapped back there ....
@@rxubvy I thought this was only ever broadcast at night time.

When radio 1 was worth listening to.
I have to agree radio 1 now is rubbish
Remember bits and pieces as well
You having a laugh. The only good thing about this, was it was so ridiculous it was funny.
And then she died........
Weird ass comment after all that crap!
I thought radio 1 was for young people
Everything stopped for Our Tune at work.
We used to ignore the phones and customers in the trade counter.
yep building sites around the country downed tools, you could always hear this floating over the site
Highlight of an office day.

I Always looked forward to 11 am every morning made me realize sometimes how Happy I was and how lucky what I had !!!! 💕
My mum used to make me listen to these back in mid 90s I used to cry at some of the stories but it made me realise a lot about life. I thank you BBC

Sometimes routine is absolutely awesome
You always remember this tune .. when radio was really good
This tune does take u back.............pulls at the old heart strings a bit..............as if time has not passed........

I remember as an impressionable 17 working on building sites around 1991 as an apprentice and listening to this sentimental guff. Bloody lapped it up.
I loved this every day some were happy some sad I actually used to cry with some I wish it would come back.
